We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Also... this sounds like it could have been recorded in 1955. It been 60-70 years since people authentically played like this and it was new, fresh.
I can't begin to understand or fathom these musicians so slavishly living in the past aesthetically. He doesn't even have any of the innovation or musical progress from other "relatively recent" piano players of the last 30 years, such as Kenny Kirkland, or Mulgrew Miller.
Some random thoughts:
1. The guy plays nice, yeah it's old hat but he's going for a mood...it's a nice mood.
2. It might be called Smooth Jazz, but that name's already taken back in the 90's.
3. Back in the 60's this was my my introduction to jazz as a child: https://youtu.be/o4sQzaSbsRg
I'm sure someone was thinking smooth jazz? at the time... not innovative, but I still enjoy it.
4. This video could be someone's introduction to music like this, & you just $#!+ all over it...I'm sure they'll think twice before listening again. Have a nice day :)
