We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Freedom of speech is not about harm or lack of harm. It is the right to express your ideas. Without this, we as either individuals or organizations cannot oppose a government in power or help shape social policy or anything.

Aren't the Taliban the ones that pulled out their rocket launchers and blasted the giant Buddha rock-sculptures to smithereens? You know, the World Heritage Site on the old China silk road?
Didn't they do the same to the ancient ruins in Iraq, in the area known to the civilized world as “The Cradle of Civilization”?
Yeah - send them American dollars in aid, that's the answer. I'm sure they'll fall in line with that whole spiritual growth thing once they get the dough-ray-mi.
I gave up NPR yearrrrrrrrrrrrrrs ago. Haven't missed it.
"The charitable interpretation is that this is what Mr. Biden really believes about Afghanistan in particular, war in general, and how to defend the U.S. The uncharitable view is that he and his advisers have decided that the only way out of this debacle is to lie about it, blame everyone else, and claim that defeat is really a victory." I trust nothing from the Democrat party.
"Biden administration has lost track of a third of released migrant kids: report": Biden and his administration should get out of their bunkers and go LOOK.
. . . NPR’s current target audience, which clearly feels we’ve reached the blue-state version of the End of History, where all important truths are agreed upon, and there’s no longer need to indulge empty gestures to pluralism like the “marketplace of ideas.”
