That's silly. They are completely different viruses.

The COVID test can't detect flu, and the Influenza test can't detect COVID, but they don't confuse the two either. If you have the flu, but not COVID, then a COVID test will not return a positive result. If you have COVID, but not the flu, then a flu test will not return a positive result. The CDC, with the flu season approaching, is recommending a single lab test than can return results for both viruses rather than having to run two separate tests.

I haven't read all of Zachriel, but he's probably right, and you should note I don't often say that. American Thinker just published a piece of crap from another physician (Siler) about covid on 8/25, and this today was unendurable after just two paragraphs. All the Steve Karp MD's I can google have no expertise beyond mine, frankly.

Being an MD who tells you what you want to hear isn't magic. You would do better to listen to those who actually have skin in the game in acute care, ER's, urgent care - you know, those people who are actually risking their lives for your sake.

Actually, I did just read the rest of Zachriel, and he is dead right. I worked with MDs in hospitals my whole career, and some of them are just dumb as rocks, frankly.

However bad you think the experts have been - and I know, it's fun to put the term in quotes so you can feel smarter than them - the skeptics and critics have been ten times worse. I've been here through it all, of people saying it's just like the flu...okay a bad flu season...don't listen to those crazy alarmists who tell you we're going to have 150,000 deaths...it's only old people...okay, old people and people who have other conditions...okay old people, those who have other conditions, and people who work in direct health care...I'll bet they are calling things covid that aren't...it's a wild overcount...those 750,000 excess deaths are like maybe the flu or something...yeah, a really bad flu season that is 20 times normal, that's it...the vaccine is weird and therefore is going to make you infertile because - well because it's weird and I don't understand it and that makes me think of my deepest fears for no rational reason...it's experimental...okay, even after being given to millions of people I still say its experimental because it's fun to say that...it might have terrible consequences we don't know about...and the long-term consequences of Covid we do know about already will probably go away, like any day now... and those premature covid babies probably won't show any bad effects, because, because, well, FAUCI LIED, and therefore anything I say has to be believed instead...the Delta variant is no big deal...those people aren't really dying in Texas and Florida in a third spike because we like their governors...there's this horse dewormer that has zero track record of being a treatment but that's probably a good idea...masks don't work...okay they work when they are done right but I don't want to do it right and it is torture, torture to make children wear them...yeah, well, okay, the actual children don't really mind that much, but their parents do, so that's, that's, that's the important thing...except not that many parents mind either, we just think those are scaredy-cats.

Vlad Tepes blog, on August 27, features a piece from Fauci admitting the PCR test is junk. If you read the comments you will also see that the FDA quietly dropped the EUA on the PCR test in July. You will also see that the FDA recommended 40 cycles of the PCR test to be done. Even Fauci admits that it should be no more than 35. Most recommend 30 cycles. What this means is that we have no idea how many actual cases of Corona we had. We also have no idea of how many died of Corona. There are no useful statistics when there is no useful tests.

Uh, no, he doesn't. They are discussing two different things: quantitative and qualitative PCR tests. Quantitative testing is used to determine whether someone who was previously infected is no longer infectious. Those tests stop when they reach a positive result. If the positive result only occurs after 35 cycles, then the person is probably not infectious and has cleared the virus, but may have virus fragments in their system. Qualitative testing is used for someone who has not previously been infected. The result won't be positive unless they have been infected.

That is incorrect. If there is a positive result, regardless of number of cycles, it means the test has detected COVID RNA. Then what that means depends on the circumstance. If the person has never been infected, then any COVID RNA indicates an infection. If the person is recovering from infection, then if the RNA is only detected at very low levels (cycles > 35), then it may just be RNA fragments.

Keep in mind that false positives are very rare, but false negatives are common, usually due to testing too early in the infection or too late.

The "experts" have been silenced and the only people allowed to speak to covid are politicians. The masks don't work. The ONLY purpose of requiring masks is to make it look like the politicians are doing something. 6 feet separation doesn't work it is only to make it look like politicians are doing something. Masks to enter a restaurant and then no mask after you sit to eat is laughable and shameful at the same time. Bars open until ten is even more laughable.

Most likely the dramatic increase in some states, like Florida, is due to the placing of illegal immigrants there.

This is a virus and it will continue to act like a virus and infect most people until the herd immunity stops it. Masks won't stop it (remember that most of the 700,000 who died and the 100+ million who got covid were following the mask and separation rules). Vaccinations will stop it... eventually.

There is an eerie similarity between the masks and the burka. Ditto for those who insist on these two things. Soon there will be enforcers roaming the streets beating anyone who doesn't have a mask or a burka on.

The science is being ignored. I am waiting for a few of these companies who have been bankrupted by the mask rules and closing to sue the states and force the states to prove that masks can actually protect you from covid, or flu, or even the common cold.

As you can imagine, I can go on and on about the foolishness that has passed for True American Freedom this past 18 months. You are clutching at straws. The vaccines have been demonstrated to work dramatically. Requiring vaccination goes back to smallpox in 1905 and has been upheld by the courts every time. (The arguments against smallpox vaccine were the same as now.) There has not been more death from the shutdowns, there has been only an increase in ODs, which were on the rise from fentanyl anyway, and so may not even be attributable to covid. It's less than 5% of the excess death total anyway. There is nothing else in the queue to explain those deaths other than covid. No increase in heart diesase, repiratory illness, etc.

Fortunately, only a subset of conservatives have gone stark raving mad, because I left liberalism in the 80s when I recognised they were insane and would hate to have no place to go now.

Before you answer back with the arguments that you are sure refute me, understand that I very likely have seen them, considered them, and found them lacking. This is not my first time at the rodeo. My assertion is that the skeptics have a few points worth considering at the margins, but are essentially intellectually bankrupt. Get the very safe vaccine and jump at the chance for a booster. If masking and distancing come back in, it's no big deal, really. It's not like living under Ceausescu. Your need to feel persecuted is a personal problem, not something the rest of us need to take into consideration.

The Captains journal.com has a good piece from 9 Aug 2021 titled Sars-CoV-2 in the news part 2. Covers the patents and shenanigans of the CDC, FDA, and Fauci. Its a long slog but worth every minute.

The sequence was already available, and mRNA technology requires very little time to produce a vaccine. The months waiting for the public release of the vaccine had to do with testing and approval.

There was already a vaccine for Sars that was tested on animals and it managed to kill off the animals once they acquired the virus in the wild. Was Covid tested on animals and what was the outcome? Can any PCR test distinguish between Sars and the current Covid? There are no long term effects studies by the current "vaccine" but why are they constantly adding more problems erupting from the vaccine use. A study by a military officer showed more deaths from the vaccine than from actual Covid. Why the rush to jab?

You didn't provide much information, so we can only guess at which reverberation of the echo chamber to which you refer. It's probably Tseng et al., Immunization with SARS coronavirus vaccines leads to pulmonary immunopathology on challenge with the SARS virus, PLoS One 2012. The study found the vaccines being studied provided antibody protection to SARS-CoV-1, but also led to the occurrence of eosinophilia; 1) The animals didn't die due to the vaccine or when challenged with SARS-CoV-1, but survived with no noticeable signs of illness; 2) The vaccine wasn't based on mRNA.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were tested on mice and macaques. The vaccines worked well in the animals studies with no noticeable side effects. See Vogel et al., BNT162b vaccines protect rhesus macaques from SARS-CoV-2, Nature 2021.

Most current field tests do not distinguish between SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-Cov-2, but the samples are regularly sequenced. That's how they track mutations and variants as they move through the human population. There's no sign of SARS-CoV-1.

Again, you didn't provide any specifics. About 7000 deaths in the U.S. have been reported after vaccination. Many of these may not have been due to the vaccine, and the number is consistent with the normal rate of death in the population. However, even assuming 7000 deaths from 363 million doses of the vaccine over the months people have been receiving the vaccine, that would represent just a week of COVID deaths at the current rate.
