We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We owned a pizza place in our twenties, in the 80s, and carried sarsaparilla, birch beer, and other unique soft drinks...

Have made these but one grandkid gets indigestion from root beer so we make them with oink (cream) soda or orange soda. They all love them especially made with my home made ice cream.
Awesome!!!
Make them with my grandkids a few times a summer.
We make them after Ascension Day Service at my church. Used to launch balloons for that. But the environmental observers said NO MORE! Someone came up with the FLOATS idea. Good times.
A strong second on that one, Kutztown Beverage root beer and sarsaparilla are absolutely top quality. Their dark birch beer is unparalleled, and the black cherry soda makes an awesome vanilla ice cream float. Great stuff!
My dad still has couple of bottles of the extract you refer to to. They are still in their boxes, unopened. From my Grandpa's drug store for use in his soda fountain. It's old. From the 40s or 50s I think.
I miss soft serve root beer floats. Can't have them now as a Diabeatnik. But I do this, which is almost as good:
Diet root beer with a nice splosh of heavy cream.
