We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"DESANTIS IN THE BREACH Trumpy without the mean streak"
Oh come on now haven't you ever heard the old saying " Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me"? What kind of pansy as$ gets hurt by truthful words instead of subtle lies. Yes, I get into trouble sometimes saying what I mean but it is the truth and not some soft slide sideways in meaning. I'm sure some here think he should be "kinder", oh well.
Yes, he's been better than expected!! The Dems have already started throwing everything they can at him. He's up for reelection next year, (need to keep all those Cuomo voting New Yorkers back in NY.)
The media fear mongering will just get worse. Remember that reading any news about Florida will be bad news. They got Trump out in 2020, DeSantis is next for 2022. Floridians we need to keep him in office!
How to get kids into music: to neglect all the really high-level stuff, in an ordinary family the best thing you can do is make sure the kid has a place to practice where he doesn't have to compete with a TV.
Beyond that, someone will have to care enough to supply him with a decent instrument and tutors. It's a rare child talent who can pull this off without considerable support from his family, and the family had better want it pretty badly.
If the sentiment in the family's social milieu is that being serious professional musician is dumb or elitist or impractical, it's rare family--of any socio-economic-ethnic background--that will buck the trend.
"In the supreme irony of our times, many of the same liberals who were so concerned about Trumpist authoritarianism four years ago have enthusiastically accepted a system of social media censorship in which ideas that contradict the findings of established authorities are in certain cases banished from the public sphere. And they are slowly but clearly coming round to the administration’s proposal to turn the government’s surveillance powers on what is called ‘domestic extremism’. It was fears of Trumpist authoritarianism that made this new, liberal authoritarianism possible.
If Biden wants "half of all vehicles sold by 2030 to be zero emission" then he better have one heck of a lot of crews out there planting current bushes.
