We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
If you have to call out the army against your own citizens, it's time for you to sit yourself down and ask yourself some hard questions about whether or not you're doing the right thing and whether or not you know what the right thing is.
While they're doing that, it might be useful for the citizens to start asking themselves some different hard questions, while working some assessments on strength in numbers. As surprised as I have been at the unfolding reactions here in the US, I am really, really shocked at the state of affairs in both Canada and Australia. It has not been a good year for public health, but it's been a worse one for pandemic management and public policy, and it has been a really superbly rotten year for the preponderance of human freedoms. We all should have been having different conversations I think.
