Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"But does anyone think that the American economy could keep running if we had to fire 40% of the workforce who aren’t vaccinated?"
Here's to hoping that these millions - myself included - stick to their guns and that the economic ripples cause the government to backtrack. "Experts Suggest Contacting Employers for Offensive Posts"

Why not? They are the highest bidders. Would you sell your property for less if the Chinese were the high bidders? I have long wondered why the Chinese haven't cashed out all the US Government debt they hold and bought US farmland with the money. A trillion dollars could buy up a pretty good chunk of the corn belt. And farmland always appreciates. Government backed securities? Not so much. Then they could send their people over here to farm it. That could lead to all kinds of intriguing outcomes. I have also wondered why our mega rich haven't been more aggressive buying farmland, though Bill Gates recently spent $171 million on one chunk. They could become a landed aristocracy, much the same way it is in Britain. To revert to the subject of the Chinese, I suppose we could ban the ownership of farmland by the Chinese, but with such a substantial number of our ruling class on China's payroll, that seems pretty unlikely. The reason why China is buying US farmland is because their land is terrible and they cannot possibly feed all of their own people with the paltry amounts they grow. China spends a literal fortune importing food. How much easier will it be once they own the land?
Their buying our farmland means US farmers/taxpayers/citizens are squeezed out. Do you think any of the food produced on that land will be allowed in US markets? Think again. It will be quickly moved to container ships and sent overseas. That's why it's so important that our ports are US owned. All foreign ownership of US lands should be banned. Our land and its fruits are our heritage and belongs to us. One of the best discussions that I have come across on Critical Race Theory is with Glen Loury and Prof. Richard Epstein. Epstein saw the forefront of this Marxist movement with the start of Critical Legal Theory by one of his colleagues. It's a very good 27 minutes spent, and particularly interesting is Epstein's discussion of the present and previous Administrations at the back end. He's a classical Liberal - in other words, nothing like a modern one.

BUT, when fat, diabetic, un-vaccinated won't-go-out-of-the house grandma keels over from the WuFlu after ignoring 6 months of everyone from the President down to parish priest telling her to get the jabs, I'm less than sympathetic. In fact, my take is, STFU, this one's on you. Grandma was at a point where any threat to her health was possibly a death sentence. So is every other fat, diabetic person with a heart condition. As for advice from a President who doesn't know where he is or who is, thanks, but no. I' ll take my 5 year old grandson.
Good idea. If possible, take him out for a walk in the fresh summer air. Good for both of you.
Grandma has the right to be fat, diabetic, unvaccinated, or whatever, and I won't crow or chortle if she gets sick and dies, but I do draw the line at wearing a mask because she's afraid of catching something from me. If she's at unreasonable risk, either from age, pre-existing conditions, or unvaccinated status, it's going to be up to her to stay out of public or walk around in self-contained breathing apparatus.
What about thin granny who did get the jab and almost died from a serious anaphylactic shock reaction. She hit the floor at the vaccination centre and an ambulance was immediately called. Her condition was so serious that her son (living out of town) was called and immediately drove in to town not knowing if he was just travelling to identify his mother's body.
Ironically, said granny had had a bad reaction to a vaccination some years before but, when she brought this up with both her family doctor and the staff at the vaccination centre, her concerns were dismissed. So much for trusting the "science". The Pope and hunger. The fable persists that all this food and the transportation and trade networks that distribute it would just Exist somehow without people trying to make a living by seeking personal advantage.
If the food did just appear in that way, they would be absolutely correct to demand that the others share it down to the last farthing. But it doesn't, and you are stuck with the option of watching people who don't like your socialism becoming prosperous - or poor people starving. Your choice. |
