We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"Everything's an emergency when you can't remember yesterday." (From the 'Proverbs' link)
They want everybody to live in an urban box, and then they try to prove their point using the disproved junk science and comparisons to mostly rural, underdeveloped nations that underpin their 'Climate Accord' targets - while the worst nation-offenders by far have refused to even sign the fatally-flawed accord, understanding that it means the end of their own national development.
Just keep remembering to refute and reject every new doomsday prediction, by referring to the list of every past doomsday prediction. Wrong on every count.
Our friend Stuart and VDH get it. Interesting to note that neither one mentioned the power of the academic community to create and enforce this madness.
The calendar on my Windows PC dutifully informed me that July 5th was Independence Day (observed), meaning the Feds, those lazy bastards, took the day off. So the garbageman came and took trash away, but the postman didn't stop by to resupply.
As for me? I took advantage of this Federally-mandated fake day off to proudly fly my flags--Old Glory, the Texas state flag, and the Betsy Ross flag--to give a silent but flamboyant "in your face" to my Blue-Anon* neighbors. Oh, and I worked online most of the day.

This was news to me as well - since when has the Monday of the Fourth of July been a holiday? What day do they take off if the Fourth falls on a Thursday? Do they get the Monday after Christmas and New Years off as well?
I've been an employee my entire life and I enjoy it. Life isn't a contest. If you don't like being self-employed, then do something else. But don't complain or brag about how hard you work as if we care, because nobody cares.
I like having my 96 hours sick time, 120 hours paid vacation, and maybe 10 paid holidays every year. And no, I'm not a federal employee. I've also worked where there was no sick time or vacation, and it sucked. That's why I don't do it anymore.
Any company with a couple hundred employees or larger is going to offer paid holidays. If they didn't, then most would quit and get a job at a better employer. Why does that bother you?
Flying your flag is a flamboyant in-your-face? Either you live in a very strange neighborhood or you need a hobby.
