Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Legal lunacy: Judge tosses gun case over grand jury’s lack of diversity The STUPID is STRONG is this one.
Caving to the Mob Week in Higher Education: Hmmmm. Mayhap and per chance we should go to our nearest colleges and parade around with signs saying BULL SHIT. Or COW FLOP. Or YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY. Ohio private school expels students because their MOMS launched campaign against woke curriculum and Critical Race Theory: Demand and sue for their money back! How Radical Are the Teachers’ Unions? Insanely, Watch out for the extremists around you: They're (damned near) EVERYWHERE. Target, Walgreens make changes due to increase in San Francisco thefts: The changes they should make are to leave Frisco. Loss Prevention Uber Alles! What the kuff is going on in California?
Does the word "Democrats" come to mind? California isn't the only State that Democrats have kuffed up. QUOTE: As bad as California’s crime, infrastructure Always start with the facts, and be skeptical of sources that don't. • Per FBI statistics, California's violent crime rate is high, 13th worst by state, a bit higher than in Texas, but not as high as in Tennessee or Alabama. • California's infrastructure is ranked 31st out of 50 states, about middling, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers 2021 Infrastructure Report Card. So since Democrats took over the state, is California getting better or worse?
Hint: is renting a U-Haul cheaper leaving or entering California? mudbug: So since Democrats took over the state, is California getting better or worse?
California’s real GDP has increased more than 20% over the last five years, a faster rate of growth than almost anywhere in the U.S. Manufacturing showed strong growth, and the vast high tech sector was largely resistant to the pandemic shutdown. The primary reason people leave California is because of the high cost of housing, due to high demand. It’s fairly typical for younger workers to migrate towards competitive environments, while older people leave for lower taxed areas. “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.” — Yogi Berra This might be useful:

This does not include international migration, which is primarily from Asia, the majority having a college education. About 3/4 of California immigrants have legal status, half being naturalized citizens. Over 40% of residents plan on leaving the leftist utopia of San Francisco
QUOTE: Out-of-control crime and homelessness, with many openly injecting drugs on public streets, have prompted residents to begin thinking about moving out of the city, according to a new poll. "New polling released by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce shows that eight out of ten of San Franciscans consider crime to have worsened in recent years. The results were consistent across gender, age, ethnicity, party affiliation, and neighborhood, and homeownership status," the Chamber wrote. The poll found that 70% of residents thought quality of life has declined in the city for the second year in a row. The Chamber was particularly surprised that 88% said homelessness has worsened recently and 80% said addressing homelessness should be a high priority. In addition, the poll said more than 40% of residents say they are planning to move away. https://notthebee.com/article/over-40-of-ungrateful-comrades-plan-on-leaving-the-leftist-utopia-of-san-francisco The question must be asked of those forty percent: What in your estimation, is the number 1 reason for the increase in the devastation?
The last republican mayor of San Francisco left office in 1964! I imagine there is a percentage of those that are leaving that have figured out Dem policies have brought ruin to their city. They see no way to change it at the voting booth so they are voting with their feet.
But yeah . . . . for most of them, particularly those that remain, I would speculate that voting Republican never enters their mind. It's simply unthinkable. For the people I personally know who are leaving or have left within the past couple of years:
1. Crime and lack of safety 2. Homeless and Crazies 3. Drugs 4. Shit everywhere--the City literally smells like shit and piss. That's in spite of landlords offering cash bonuses to re-up your rent agreements. A lot of the businesses and stores have already abandoned SF. All those fancy office buildings that once held tech companies are empty. And the answer to the problems plaguing the city are never going to be rolling back the stupidity that got them there - it'll be doubling down on the stupid because they're 'caring and compassionate'... and anything they do that doesn't bolster their self-images simply isn't a tolerable idea.
Curmudgeon on Cryptocurrency
QUOTE: a few days later I got three calls in one day from my wife’s side of the family – from my sister-in-law (a pharmacist) and my wife’s cousins (both are barbers). They were all asking me about crypto. I told them, you don’t ask my advice on which number to put your chips on when you play roulette in Vegas; cryptocurrencies fall into the same category. . . . When we discuss crypto, we need to separate blockchain technology from the so-called currencies. Though I have yet to see a mainstream application of blockchain, I get a feeling they are coming. However, just because a technology is useful, has a lot of applications, and is widely accepted doesn’t automatically mean that you can use it to create a genuine currency. . . . When we talk about cryptocurrencies we have to make clear which one. Many consider Bitcoin their god and savior. However, there are thousands of these “currencies” out there, with dozens created every week. . . . Cryptocurrencies are a clear and present danger to the US dollar. There is a very high probability that the US government will outlaw the use of cryptos as currencies. Sounds far-fetched? The US government did this in 1933 with gold. That was less than 100 years ago. India is threatening to ban Bitcoin. South Korea already did. https://contrarianedge.com/curmudgeon-on-cryptocurrency/ |
