We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Democrats Get Some Really Bad News as Normal Americans Wake Up LOL! Now that they know how to steal elections, democrats don't care what the voters think. The very first comment at Lucianne nailed it: Your article is from the mistaken perception that we still have a viable free and fair election system in this country.

Eight years to build a stadium for 70,000 fans, and it's still standing 2,000 years later. How far we've come.

There's a much more complete amphitheater in El Jem, Tunisia that used to be pretty much open throughout, including under the arena. It was built about 150 years later.

It made it through WWII unscathed, even though the Luftwaffe were using it for quarters - the Allies didn't bomb antiquities.

Things are a little different when the enemy is using it as a fortified artillery emplacement I guess, but this account does spell out how the Allies treated antiquities. The Germans first looted the art and then leveled parts of the abbey to create fields of fire.

The Nazis stashed their Luftwaffe officers at El Jem specifically because they knew it wouldn't be attacked, or so I read at the site when I was there.

Bryan Caplan makes a solid point. Don't listen to people's words, watch their actions. People will demonstrate what the really care about.

I will note, from the book Who Really Cares? that conservatives give more to charity (even after removing religious giving), volunteer more (even accounting for religious volunteering), and give blood more often. In fact, if liberals gave blood at the same rate as conservatives we would have no shortages.

Severe weather? Of sorts. My un-air conditioned residence in TX has never been this cool so late in the summer. Usually the downstairs hits 80+ by mid-June. It's at 76 with no air conditioning.

I don't entirely reject the possibility that the climate is changing. But if it is humans that are doing it, then all advocates need to go to China and tell it to them. Here, it's just performance art.

Speaking of performance art, I should go over and check what David Thompson is up to, reporting on cultural silliness.
