We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
As part of my job (software troubleshooter) I have ongoing interactions with many of my employer's international customers. One of them, from Wales, visited the western U.S. a few years back.
Afterwards he commented to me in one of our work-related email exchanges, "I see why Americans tend not to travel internationally the way Europeans do. You have so many beautiful places to visit right in your own country."
He's right ... not to dis the the incredible things to experience elsewhere, but you don't have to leave the states to enjoy amazing vistas and landscapes.
