We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

It's hard to believe that there could be many scientists who supported the main stream narrative due to TDS. OTOH, TDS does appear to leave many people unhinged. I'd be more inclined to blame, circling the wagons, band wagon effect, peer pressure, fear of social media. Maybe naivete played a role, given that our public health officials and academics had collegial relationships with their Chinese counterparts.
What we have here, is a total lack of self awareness… again by the people trying to shape the narrative. The failure to be transparent and the bizarre over reaction by media to stifle any questions was obvious to at least half of the public. Anyway, if they did fail to challenge what turns out to be a false narrative, they sabotaged their own reputations and undermined the credibility of science. And yet, they are surprised that people are reluctant to trust the science on the vaccines and the therapeutics. The medical establishment did this to themselves; they undermined their own credibility.

I believe there are some physicians and scientists who hadn't studied the particulars of the Wuhan flu who were just useful idiots and I believe there were some who also didn't study Wuhan flu and were willing to go along with the other group to gat at Trump, but given all the "scientists" who have been bleating about the world burning up, I do not discount the likelihood that a substantial number of "physicians" and "scientists" were part of a cabal (in league with the climate change "scientists" and leftist politicians) who just want the scare the hell out of enough people to control them ("Never let a crisis go to waste."). They, like most of the news media, are not concerned with credibility - only power. Power over you, not for you.

I forgot to mention, only a fool would disregard the power of funding (government, private, commercial) in influencing the consensus. It looks like this is world wide and includes Chinese scientists and advertising revenues.

Marijuana has not been approved by the FDA as a treatment for any medical disease or condition. Facebook posts about medical marijuana usage are not fact-checked.

So a post advocating medical marijuana as a treatment for Covid should be the equivalent of dropping a cat with a slice of buttered toast strapped to its back.

Ok lets be brutal here….the FDA has not approved any COVID treatment, they have granted conditional use permission. That being said….weed for COVID is stupid. Weed instead of booze to not get fat and die early….that dog hunts.

His statement is 100% true — obviously so — and I give him tremendous credit for publicly contradicting the mayor’s idiotic claim about racism.

Lopez is also the one that called out the mayor last year (in a leaked City Council conference call) pointing out that these stupid new police disengagement policies were, well, stupid.

He’s no shill for that clown Lightfoot and we should reflexively applaud anything anyone ever says in opposition to her, because it’s almost certainly spot on.

Gangs have dominated for decades under the protection of corrupt law enforcement and City Hall — but it’s this alderman’s fault because he alone has the guts to call Llightfoot on her stupid racist bullshit? Sorry, that’s crazy.

He alone cannot “fix” anything when the corruption is systemic.

Lightfoot is the problem here - worst leader I’ve ever seen. A total disaster.

TDS comes in two forms: Those who hate Trump because that hate conservatism and the constitution. And those who hate Trump because they think he will upset their gravy train. John McCain hated Trump for both reasons.

The problem with the Juneteenth holiday is that we didn't implement it for the real reason, i.e. because the Republicans ended slavery and forced the Democrats to give up their slaves. We created it in the hope that it would increase racism and divide us and that the divide would push more people into voting for Democrats. But because of the name of the holiday and they underlying reason for creating the holiday it is really a slap in the face to all blacks. It's kinda like the George Floyd statue. Should they really have made a George Floyd statue knowing he was a criminal, rapist and killed himself in a fentanyl overdose that the far left Marxist activists used to railroad/lynch an innocent police officer. We all know that is what happened and now we have a statue to make sure we never forget that anti-law lynching by the left. So how does this reflect on blacks? The name Juneteenth sounds childish and low IQ. The statue to a criminal because they don't actually have any heroes to dedicate statues to. How is that good for the young black child growing up? Should they honor criminals and speak in pigeon English because they aren't intelligent enough to speak English correctly?

They should have called the holiday Emancipation day and they should have errected a statue of Clarence Thomas.
