We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Topics for the Black Wellness and Healing course include "misogynoir, engaging Black youth, survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual violence, protecting yourself as an academic/ organizer doing Black liberation work, financial wellness, Afrocentric healing and spirituality, and celebrating the diversity of Blackness."
It sounds a bit racist to me but, who knows, maybe Afrocentric healing might be good. Never heard of it.
I had to look up "misogynoir" to make sure it was a cromulent word, (and you may not be surprised to know that spellcheck does not recognize it as a word) and it set me to wondering what it would take to establish one as a misogynoirist. My guess would be "I disagree with your position" ought to be enough to prove one's bona fides.
If all the wrong people like you and me get used to capitalising it, then that will be racist and it will be insisted that we go back to the lower-case "b" again. It's a contest to show that you are fully au fait, never relenting for a moment in keeping up with the secret code words. What the words are is unimportant, so attempting to apply logic will only increase your irritation.
