Will Eliminating Standard Tests Really Reduce Racial Disparities In Education?

Not nearly as much as getting rid of the racist requirement that prospective students hold a high school diploma or the equivalent. It should be well-known that illiterate, innumerate, scientifically- and historically-ignorant people develop other ways of knowing, why should they be denied a college education just because they lack the ability to read and to write and to think logically?

If we find that this still does not create a level playing field, well, we'll just have to level the playing field by making sure high school graduates as well as high school drop-outs are unable to read and to write and to think logically. And, don't look now, but we're already halfway to that particular goal.

What is the most disturbing to me is how far my expectations have shifted. It's alarming to realize that our political leadership has gone from establishing educational minimum standards for literacy, moving to standardized testing and accelerated programs for the gifted, to corrupting the standards for racial preferencing, to abolishing gifted programs and any form of standardized testing altogether. The drift is slow but it is unmistakable.

Only fools and the culturally-suicidal place obstacles for children and young people to prevent their access to the best education their intellect can manage.

Worse, it's pushing people into 4 year university degree programs who would be better off in the skilled trades, in associate degree programs, etc.

Financially better off, as a generic college degrees doesn't provide significant marginal income anymore, particularly when you also factor in +2-3 years of tuition expense and +2-3 years of lost wages. Emotionally better off because some people don't really enjoy what universities teach.

On eliminating standardized test scores in college admissions.

Janet Napolitano, the head of the UC system, ask for a study to see if using standardized test scores resulted in better or poorer outcomes for minorities students.

The study showed better outcomes. Yet she eliminated them anyways. To me this is telling.

"In fact, test scores are better predictors of success for students who are Underrepresented Minority Students (URMs), who are first generation, or whose families are low-income.”

Excellent, sir. Eliminating the tests as a consideration may increase the number of blacks in college. But it will decrease the number of black graduates. That is the statistic these advocates for false equality do not dare even mention. The tests tell you what you need to know, but to progressive eyes they give the wrong answer. They would far rather have the preening statistic of "look how many black kids we got into college," rather than the much more depressing numbers of "look how few people we actually helped."

It is a disgusting morality to use black students this way.

I am thinking of dropping Netflix, because they seldom have what I want to watch. When they have a part of a TV show, they sometimes have season 2 or 3 but not season 1. What the heck!

But I did watch Babylon Berlin. Not safe for work. Don't watch it with the kids around, either. Lots of nudity and sex. Some of it is disturbing.

I think it does a good job of capturing the desperation of Germany in the era after WW1.

The big quarrel I have with it is that Communist characters are given the good scenes to make them look heroic. Sure, the Nazis were horrible. Nobody disputes that. But if the Commies had won control of Germany, the people would have suffered very badly, too.

The communists are rarely if ever held up to the scorn that they so deserve. Mao and Stalin killed far more than Hitler. Satan’s word smith, Marx, should be treated worse than all of the evil doers. Marx, who never worked a day in his pathetic life; always mooching off others. But Hollywood and Universities are filled with faux communists, and true believers, puppets mouthing things such as: Real communism has never been tried. The same group of actors telling the world how they believe in science. Economics is a science, and no matter how many times socialism and its evil stepchildren are proved to be a disaster for humanity, we must inevitably try some other derivative of it.

Babby Berlin is deeply flawed. The murderers of policemen were communists who fled to USSR and later returned to form the STASI which in turn was never held accountable for crimes in East Germany and terrorism in West Germany. The whole thing about the nanny being tricked into bombing her politician boss by Nazis pretending to be communists is ABSURD.

We know what doesn't work; call it Cuba, Venezuela or East Germany. Babby is for dupes.

VDH left out of his title list of symptoms the Declining Morals of the elites and leadership of all stripes. He references morals at nearly every turn in his article but did not headline them.

I sat through the first 30 mins of Babylon Berlin - turned it off after it spent long long time on a pornography production set. How could anyone watch that crap?

We watched season one with subtitles, the it's in German, and generally liked the series.

After that the dialogue was dubbed and that was a deal breaker.

IMO dubbing makes a show unwatchable.

re Babylon Berlin. The review made it sound kinda interesting. But, I guess I'm hopelessly old fashioned. One minute in to Episode 1, it's hard-core porn. Pass. Not gonna support that crap by watching it.
