What the environmental extremists really have in mind for us is for human beings to return to a hunter/gatherer society and give up the last 100,000 years or so of human progress. Since the carrying capacity for the Earth under such conditions is about 600 million people, well, some of you are going to be asked to make a small sacrifice. And, no, I'm not joking.

That's a good article, but I think it still misses the point of how expensive it's going to be to go green. It's going to be prohibitively expensive - that is, so expensive that it simply cannot be done - and that is the intent. People who scoff at the idea that we can replace fossil fuels with renewables simply because there's no way wind and solar can supply all the electricity we need fail to note that human beings survived for thousands of years without any electricity at all. Renewables certainly can supply all the electricity we need, it cannot possibly supply all the electricity we want. Say goodbye to air conditioning, refrigeration, washers and dryers, dishwashers, television, the internet, and anything other than a couple of 40 watt lightbulbs in your little hovel, because that's your future, and the Green New Dealers intend for it to be that way. They aren't joking about looking to the Third World to solve our energy problems, they're using the Third World as a model for how we all should live.
