Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I'm pretty sure our moral and intellectual superiors need no reason whatsoever to feel morally and intellectually superior, much less 10 of them.
It's pretty hard to conceive of a plan more diabolical than throttling down every child's ability to learn in order to accommodate the dumbest kid in class. It's hard not to assign evil intent to that kind of idea, because to award any creative integrity to it, one would have to imagine our institutions capable of turning out the world's dumbest educators en masse. Easy to say 'NO' though, fortunately, once parents take an interest - as they are, increasingly. If you have kids or grandkids, get directly involved and be disagreeable.
Locate other parents in the neighborhood where your children or grandchildren are living. Step in--take the lead--and organize home schooling groups, or small classes. If you are a grandparent--this may be the most important task of your retirement years and your greatest contribution to US.
100% the right response. It is what it is, and there’s two choices: do nothing except get annoyed by it and watch it happen under your nose, or do something and then if you still lose, you did what you could.
I’m a grandparent of three kids 5 and under — but thankful that my son and daughter-in-law are home schooling them, and she is very, very good at it, and active in the home schooling movement. Feels like a bullet dodged. That movement is definitely growing in their peer group (early 30s). While busy doing this, don't forget to pressure your elected state officials to pass legislation for school choice, with the optimal solution being to unequivocally give credits/funding authority directly to the parents to decide what is best for their kid. This is being done in quite a few states now. The public teachers unions are far too powerful and long overdue for correction.
California's approach to math follows what Virginia was slated to do. I guess recently VA backed down from that, at least that's what they said publicly.
People have claimed that Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron" story was becoming reality; that is now more evident than ever. But to what end? I believe it's so tyrants can stay in charge. Most of the tyrants are not gifted intellectually, and are threatened by truly smart people. Get smart people out of the way, and there is little to contend with their authority. Re: The Biden Administration holds up illiberal icon Kendi as a model of civic education
The only thing I need to know about Kendi is his assertion that: “The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.” And I can't think of a more racist comment than that of Mr. Kendi.
Re: In the Name of Equity ...
Maybe taxpayers are starting to figure out a better name for Equity is Actively Harming High Achievers to Help Low Achievers Feel Better. Why on earth would any sane person want to subsidize this via taxes? It’s a bad deal for the low achievers, too. It’s in the running for stupidest idea in history. Our new Republican dominated legislature and new governor have just made this announcement to refuse all federal benefits for the unemployed;

PUBLIC SCHOOLS - In the Name of Equity, California Will Discourage Students Who Are Gifted at Math: Ah, California! The STUPID is STRONG there. "An adjunct professor teaching her first-ever course at a California college was placed on leave this week after she ripped a student during a class presentation because he said he regards police officers as 'heroes.'" There IS is some sanity in Cali1 University of Pittsburgh will now allow professors to give students a passing grade, even if they didn't finish the required coursework by the end of the term. UP grads will have asterisks on their grades... 10 Ways To Feel Morally Superior To Everyone When Masks Are No Longer Required: I'm going to keep mine so I can rob banks. That's a joke, son, I say, that there's a JOKE. (h/t, Foghorn Leghorn) The BEE STINGS! Andrew Cuomo, Ron DeSantis Announce Major Rollbacks of Pandemic Restrictions. Two governors defined by their differing approaches to COVID-19 are both moving in the same direction. But DeSantis is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in front. The Left Will Never See It Coming: And I am soooooooooooooo not bummed for them. They did it to themselves. Some Sensible Black Voices Are On To The "Antiracism" Scam: This is good to hear about. But are there enough of them? Fifteen Years Forsaken
A true story of castaways on a lost and hostile scrap of land, all thanks to some meddlesome Frenchmen and terrible luck. An 18th century shipwreck on a deserted Island in the Indian Ocean. A few survived 15 years until rescued. https://www.damninteresting.com/fifteen-years-forsaken/ re The Left Will Never See It Coming
LOL It's the author will never see it coming. CRT may have been stopped locally but it has not been stopped nationally. Even if the locals stop it legislatively, there are still the courts, and if that fails, give it another 5 or 10 years and try again. It will eventually become part of the culture. Florida Woman
Cops: Woman, 77, Hurled Whopper, Racial Slurs A 77 year old Florida woman, upset with the thickness of the tomato slice on her whopper, hurled the burger and racist epithets at the counter worker. Obviously the woman in question is childish and rude, and probably has a little bit of crazy in her. But here is the part that bothers me. QUOTE: Normally, a hamburger attack would result in the alleged assailant being charged with misdemeanor battery. But since Black allegedly used racist language, the battery count was reclassified as a felony. Florida statutes allow for such an enhancement if the defendant evidences prejudice while committing an offense. No freedom of speech in Florida. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/stupid/whopper-rage-arrest-284593 "Some Sensible Black Voices Are On To The "Antiracism" Scam"
Yeah.... and will anyone in the media listen? Or will they essentially disappear from the public eye? I'd bet on the disappearing, myself. |
