We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Gaetz is necessary to keep Cuomo off the front page. That doesn't mean he is in the least innocent, but keep the context in mind.

When the National Review picks up the criticism of a conservative in concert with the Legacy MSM, that's when you can be pretty certain it's a coordinated setup. Maybe Florida can put a Conservative that is truly effective into that seat instead, but for sure they could do better. Gaetz has rich-daddy center-of-rotation syndrome.

I don't know what Gaetz did or did not do but I do know he is on the Democrat hit list. They search for some woman to accuse their targets of rape or something. We see it all the time. That and searching their tax and business records for anything that can be brought to a trial.

To be fair, the metabolism of blacks could well be somewhat different from that of whites, particularly when it comes to the handling of carbohydrates. It's been established that native Indians of North America - particularly those who weren't practicing any form of agriculture - have problems with carbohydrates which contributes to obesity and high rates of diabetes (the more sedentary lifestyle doesn't help either). The solution seems to be returning to the high protein, high fat diet of their ancestors.

William Herrick had fought with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spain. Herrick's take on the Abraham Lincoln Brigade was decidedly different from that of the article on Murray the cheesemonger.

From reading Stanley Payne's books on Spain, I concluded that the rot on the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War didn't begin with Soviet-commanded killings of Anarchists and others on the Republican side the Commies didn't like.
One example Republican rot is government police kidnapping and killing Jose Calvo Sotelo, the right's leader in Parliament. From that unpunished killing, the right concluded that rule of law no longer existed. The Civil War began soon after. The massacre of thousands of Roman Catholic clerics at the beginning of the conflict is another example.

The Spanish Civil War didn't feature the good guys versus the bad guys, but the bad guys versus the perhaps not-as-bad guys. With good guys on both sides.

And not just Americans. Canadians and Europeans have fallen for all the nonsense touted as "history" regarding this squalid war.

I find the Spanish Civil War interesting because it's one conflict I can study fairly objectively: I care nothing for either side; both represented the two totalitarianisms of the 20th Century.

(Brings to mind - was it Kissinger's? - assessment of the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s: "Why can't they both lose?")

It wasn't even communists versus fascists in Spain.
It was royalists versus republicans, with the fascists forming the core of the republicans.
The Spanish crown had little choice but to accept help from the USSR (who didn't care who they'd support, as long as they could create chaos).

Both sides played dirty of course, as tends to happen when you have Stalinists on one side and Franco on the other.

I think I've mentioned here before that I consider myself to be a devout Jobist, that as far as I'm concerned the Book of Job is an explication of the First Commandment - when God said "Remember I'm God" that there was an unspoken corollary "Remember you are not God". Which suggests that, since we have no understanding of God and what God wants, it's not by works but by grace we are saved. Warnock, by pretending to understand the mind of God, is not just mistaken but downright sinful.

Follow the lyrics closely together with the photos. They synchronize beautifully to explain each verse.

Although Don McClean only released the song in 1971, for those of us who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s this is a great piece with some very poignant moments in the history of those times. And for those of you who did not, it’s a taste of what you missed.
