Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Science as a COVID casualty:
QUOTE: "Instead, some politicians, journalists, and (alas) scientists have engaged in vicious slander of dissident scientists, spreading damaging conspiracy theories, even with open calls for censorship in place of debate." I would only point out that "dissident" is a political term, not a scientific one, and the author is describing political discourse. But he still fails to make the point that politics never trumps science, even in wholly political discussions. The crux of the matter is the danger of continually paraphrasing science-related thinking as a way to support political rhetoric; as if such thoughts were scientific conclusions on which political decision-making should hinge. But science is a continual process, a consideration of the data as it is revealed. There is no verifiable term as "settled" science, such words only serve rhetorical needs and almost always are used to buttress political ideas. The politicians hiding under a mantle of 'science' should not be implicitly trusted (Looking at you, Al). Rand Paul's discourse with Fauci a few days ago is a good example of putting such masquerades in the proper light. Will this massive illegal immigration lead to another wave of covid with the associated deaths? Does the government care? Well of course we know the answers. The real question is; is this intentional?
It's possible we'll dodge the bullet, simply because so many people in the border states have been vaccinated now, thanks to former President Trump's extraordinary achievement in starting the vaccine rollout in December 2020, in an unprecedented ten months.
There's a common theme in today's links: The attack on reason. The Age of Enlightenment had a 300 year run but, to read the news, its over. From Wikipedia:
QUOTE: The Age of Enlightenment (also known as the Age of Reason or simply the Enlightenment) was an intellectual and philosophical movement that dominated the world of ideas in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Enlightenment included a range of ideas centered on the pursuit of happiness, sovereignty of reason and the evidence of the senses as the primary sources of knowledge and advanced ideals such as liberty, progress, toleration, fraternity, constitutional government and separation of church and state. Ayn Rand saw this trend in way back in 1971 and wrote about it in her book The Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution Father In Canada Jailed For Calling His Daughter “She”: I used to think Canadians were intelligent. Now I see the STUPID is STRONG there.
Literal Fake News from Our Garbage Media: The WaPoo WaPoops. I despise, detest, and TOTALLY distrust the WaPoo and the NYT. TV "news", too. Biden issues gag order on Border Patrol, does all he can to cover up illegal alien surge: Well, the Democrat Party does. Biden is merely a puppet illusion. Is China About To "Win" In The Battle For The Future? It does have a heckuva head start. The problem in Canada is Ontario and Vancouver control everything. The Canadians who live outside of these cities are the normal good old folks you think that they are.
re I don’t even trust the medical professions at this point, as they have been as politicized as the politicians.
Precisely. How can they be believed when they have squandered their credibility? They squandered their reputations to some degree but mostly they simply traded their reputations for money. It's what the education establishment has done as well. The more that taxpayer money is involved the more corrupted it all becomes. The medical and education establishment now serve government because that is who signs their checks. We are left out of the discussion.
31 Reasons Why I Won’t Take the Vaccine
https://gatesofvienna.net/2021/02/31-reasons-why-i-wont-take-the-vaccine/ Re: Recover the Moral Imperative of Law and Order. Conservatives should lead the way in moving the pendulum back toward the rule of law.
You realize of course that the terms "law and order" and "rule of law" are now verboten as these are well-known code words for white supremacy, right? As far as "moving the pendulum back", well we all know what you'd like to move the pendulum back toward. And a swinging pendulum clearly refers to lynching black people. It's not quite as bad as supporting Dr. Seuss, because Dr. Seuss literally kills millions of BIPOC every day, but it's still pretty bad. You're on thin ice here buddy. Re: Call her "She"
This is an interesting story, because it doesn't give the attorney general's reason for issuing the arrest order. Perhaps the father is hurting his daughter's feelings. But more likely, the government of Canada wishes to legally enforce the definition of words. So in the future, each person will be able to legally force the entire world to use pronouns of his or her own choosing. A transvestite will decide to become "she" and if the surrounding people don't comply with his request, they will be punished. The reason that the government wants to strictly control the use of words is that words have meaning. To me, a bureaucrat in Washington D.C. who cooperates with the Mafia, and distributes pornography is a terrorist. Which is true. That pornography is harming millions of children. But Washington D.C. wants it to be illegal to call our government a bunch of terrorists, even though that's what they are. So the list of verbal offenses will increase from "hate crimes" to "harmful mis-pronouning" to "tarnishing the honor of the State". Eventually, it will be easier to list the things which are still legal to say. And of course, when people are afraid to speak for fear of committing a transgression, they tend to remain silent. Which is exactly what Washington D.C. wants. So all the racist, hater, white-supremacist, homophobic, ageist people had better shut-up, or they'll get sent to Alcatraz. Remember: Even looking at a female is a crime. And so is joking around. So it doesn't matter what happened; the only thing that matters is the accusation. Females are beyond question.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9382303/Current-Cuomo-aide-accuses-embattled-governor-sexual.html There are three criteria that, if China meets, will constitute a "win" for China.
1) Being able to make state of the art semiconductor devices. 2) Being able to make the "tools" that are used to make state of the art semiconductor devices. 3) Being able to make their own jet engines. China has yet to do any of these three things. They still rely on Russian engines for their military planes. The commercial airliner start up is using Roll Royce engines, I think. They are working on both a high bypass engine for airliners as well as an engine for fighter jets.
Word has it on various semiconductor discussion blogs that the Chinese are working on their own tool business (like AMAT and LamNovellus) as well as EUV (ASML). The consensus is that they will get there in 3-5 years. Father In Canada Jailed For Calling His Daughter “She”
------------------------------------------------ Predicted by Jordan Peterson. Good news. Not only does the Covid virus not spread while sitting down to eat "science" has just determined that 3 feet of separation is also effective and now children can go back to school and be 3 feet apart.
In other news it is still considered racist to call the virus Wuhan virus, Chinese virus of kung flu, BUT it is OK to call the variants English variant or Italian variant. What happened to the post where fitness questions were being answered?
