We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Junk Grade Models: Even Short-Term Climate And Weather Modelers Get It All Wrong

The area of the US now being hit by one of the most vicious cold waves in the last 100 years was indeed forecast to be “way above normal” or “much above normal”. So far the exact opposite has happened.

I've noticed two trends. One is a continuation of what's been going on for some time: as soon as the word came down that it wasn't global warming, it was climate change, every MSM article about an unusual weather event (even cold ones) had to include an introductory paragraph explaining that "experts" advise us that fossil-fueled global warming actually causes extreme events all along the hotcoldwetdry spectrum. "As weather becomes more unpredictable . . . ." I noticed this obligatory paragraph in every mainstream report of Texas's deep-freeze emergency this week.

The second trend is troll behavior, especially on Facebook. The trolls won't touch this argument with a ten-foot pole. They must know it's the conventional wisdom, but they're not prepared to parrot it. They stick to furious defense of wind energy or excoriations of Republican state leaders or a general complaint that everything bad results from "greed." Even the old "weather is not the same as climate" argument is falling out of use.

Dire Future:
Supposedly 80 Million Americans voted to "Make America Suck Again", like it did under Obama. Not to mention turning foreign policy back to underwriting the archaic Cold War Atlantean grift.
Are these Progs dinosaurs, or what? Even Europeans know the world has moved on.

If students ardently wish to remove the founder of Baylor University from all aspects of campus life, then a simple solution may be the best one. Start with Baylor's generous scholarship and grants program. Have all of the students that are demanding the removal of all-things-Baylor sign their name, and then remove any scholarship / grant funding from their account, so that their journey through academia may remain pure and untouched by any association with tainted money. And if /when they demand some kind of 'reparations' for supposed past sins, be ready with a new grant application form, one that requires exhaustive proof of lineage, family history, and cause& effect impacts - for the sake of 'equity' and 'justice'.

Alas though, I fear Baylor's Board of Regents will be as reluctant to show courage as they were when they eviscerated their football program as other Big Football institutions carried on....

But for a lot of people, it’s a huge rush of endorphins or something and they’re addicted to the rush of virtually stomping their boots on the necks of people they disagree with. And they feel morally superior and virtuous while doing it.

I think that the latest anger over facebook misses the mark.

It was Australia that stepped over the line not Facebook. All that facebook did was choose not to engage in acts that would economically harm them.

So Federal prosecutors are supposedly investigating Governor Cuomo for killing people. Should I expect to see SWAT teams at his doorstep early one morning? Will he end up in solitary confinement?

I want a team of rabidly partisan Republicans hound him for the next four years. I want those prosecutors to harass his associates till they they are broke. I want those prosecutors to threaten the children of his supporters so they will cop a plea just to get them off his back. I want him to be impeached after he leaves office and be barred from running for future office. I want any staff member even peripherally associated with his administration to be denounced and denied future employment.

I want all that and more. After all, HE KILLED PEOPLE!!!

Years ago the installers of windmills on the hills of Walla Walla went with a plastic part instead of the $10 more better part. All the units went down for weeks to months while they had to fix them. $100's of thousands in lost generation & labor to repair for the saving of a couple thousand the first install.
