We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Regarding Marjorie Taylor Greene and our daily 5 seconds of Outrage Against Republicans. Just wondering, as a newcomer how stupid is she really, on the Congressional scale?
I've little doubt she's a lunatic with kooky ideas, but let's be sure to apply these rules equitably.
For instance, is she speculating that any sizeable mid-ocean islands might just 'tip over' from the weight of all those troops we station there? Just wondering. That particular pearl of wisdom came from Representative Hank Johnson, Democrat representing Georgia since 2007.
Her real problem is that she is the low-hanging fruit in a subset that must be purged at all costs, lest they remain as reminders of The Abomination and The Dark Times.
There are a bizillion crazy ideas out there on the left and the right. Some of them do indeed border on being offensive and some of them reflect badly on your intelligence. But most people who believe one of these crazy ideas isn't 'crazy' they just have never heard the other side. One of the classics is that a jet plane didn't hit the Pentagon, another is that building 7 of the WTC was destroyed by our own government. Both have been fully and completely debunked but I can guarantee you that a convincing person presenting only one side to a naive/uninformed person and they will buy into it.
Just remember how many people, mostly on the left, believe that Michael Brown was a gentle giant and the police shoot him in cold blood. Or that George Floyd died because the police restrained him and not because he overdosed on fentanyl. Sould THOSE people be kicked out of congress???
For me the important question is this:
How terrified have the reliable conservative voices become since the events of December/January? Have they become so frightened for their own personal well being that they will no longer be able to report factually, or to discuss today's events and tomorrow's, and tomorrow's, and tomorrow's? This I believe will be the most long lasting detriment of the events.
