Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thursday, January 14. 2021Is everything broken?
Life in the Western world, right now, is better than it has ever been in history anywhere. We live in a Golden Age. Complaining is easy and fun but gratefulness is not as fulfilling...or is it?

After electing Hugo Chavez Venezuela went from the richest country in South America to the poorest. Venezuela citizens were heard to say "When were things perfect? Or when was life better?"
I don't think we, most of us, yet understand what just happened. Biden and his successor didn't win the election they stole it. They didn't steal it themselves it took a massive effort by thousands of people including at least one other country. Even then they almost lost it still because of the massive landslide of Trump voters which necessitated a drastic and obvious effort to complete the steal. The Democrats didn't win the Senate either and may not have won the House. This wasn't "your father's Democrat party" stealing some local election this was a full blown coup. In four years they will have driven our economy into the gutter and destroyed the constitution. And during all of this you will not be allowed to publicly speak of what they did. I agree, but there is still hope. The founders of our republic were prescient and put safeguards into place to help prevent the worst of outcomes. Time is short to right the ship, and it doesn't look good, but time hasn't expired yet.
Those "safeguards" have mostly been neutralized, the safeties bypassed. And there are some very evil people at the helm and most of the "passengers" are still asleep. Tick tock. Tick tock.
Here is Peter Navarro report on the election fraud.

I agree that life is never perfect. But we will know when things are getting worse, and some things really are. As my son told me about New York City "It IS safe anyone who says it isn't just doesn't live here and doesn't know where to go." I reminded him that was what we used to say in the 70's and early 80's before NYC DID become relatively safer in a big way. When your friends who still go into the city to work carry knives and/or guns in with them and one has had a co-worker stabbed in the stomach, then it's not getting better and it's certainly not the same as it ever was. But I do not think things are broken. I think we're in a period of confusion. We'll get past it. After some pain. Maybe a lot of pain. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail... "Cooler heads" are what let it slip this far. Mostly because those people who think of themselves as "cooler heads" aren't, but have it good themselves and are just afraid to make waves. They are the Neville Chamberlains of our times. They are hoping the crocodile doesn't eat them, or at least eats them last.
I have to admit, it sure seems like most everything is broken right now especially, but not limited to, government. How can these corrupt election officials live with what they did? How can the courts ignore the theft of an election? How can law enforcement look the other way when laws are broken? How can the media ignore that it was Antifa who infiltrated a peaceful demonstration in DC and provoked a riot?
I'm feeling estranged from my countrymen right now. Answer: POWER! Pure and simple. Everything else is a distraction.
Never discount the power of evil. Many moderns say evil doesn't exist but all you have to do is look around you at what has and is happening and you should be able to see evil most everywhere. Washington DC is full of evil people.
"Moving swiftly on the wings of the violent disturbance on Capitol Hill on January 6, the newly sworn in Democratic-controlled 117th Congress is pushing a radical domestic terrorism bill that singles out “right-wing” terrorists and labels local law enforcement officials as potential terrorist threats.
Introduced by Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) S.894 “The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act” is a companion bill to House bill H.R. 1931 sponsored by Representative Bradley Schneider (D-Ill.). A version of that bill in the previous congress raised Republican ire after Democrats refused to accept any amendments that made reference to Antifa and left-wing terrorism." This is the left ignoring Antifa and BLM domestic terrorists and coming after anyone on the right. The Democrats haven't even solidified the power after the big election steal and this is the first thing out of the gate. Wake up America, the communists have seized the Democrat party. Hillary's "Basket of Deplorables" is being legislated formally into the new Underclass, where they will enjoy the special scrutiny and persuasive leverage of the Administrative State.
It's time to go silent. I'm not sure who the targets are (I mean I know it those on the right but I never heard of Proud Boys or white supremacist until the left started talking about them), but they need to stop going to these rallys/protests because the long knives are out for you. Whatever you think "it" is, "it" is NOT. "It" is a trap. From now on anyone stupid enough to be sucked in by these Democrat traps pretty much deserve what you get. Stop posting "shit" stop talking "shit" with friends because that is exactly how the FBI builds a case.
Also, for anyone with two or more brain cells: Don't commit crimes in DC. The entire town, citizens, government, judges, police, etc. Hate white people and if you go to court even on trumped up crap you will go to jail. No jury nullification or even a fair trial for you. Stay out of DC. "It's time to go silent." I foresee guerrilla warfare in America's future.
That always reminds me of the Hell's Angel's chapter that wrote to Lyndon Johnson way back in the 60's, volunteering their specialized talents to go over and clean up his Vietnam mess using 'Gorilla Warfare'
FWIW they did the same thing when Obama became President, that is they redefined DHS's mission as taking on their political opponents. Yes, they put it in different terms, but if you can find it archived, you'll understand. You'll also understand that the disinformation began well before 2016.
The big difference now is that the Dems are far more divided against themselves. That may go a long way to explaining why their behaviour is so much more desperate. I agree with all of this. The Dems are imploding and they know it. That's part of why they are lashing out.
But the media is enabling and emboldening. Marat would be proud. Some things, but not all things, are broken.
Just returned to Texas from a ski trip to Colorado, and Wow! what a difference. Coloradans have not adjusted well to their hard lockdown; many business and municipalities are using it as a pretext for reducing or lowering the quality of hours, goods, and services. Texans, OTOH, are happy to see you and do their darnedest to take care of everyone who drops in. The skiing was great, downtown not so much. Good to be back home. Hope the following thread from Samizdata will cheer up some of you. The entire thread was very good:
January 13, 2021 at 4:02 pm Just some random responses @ PM: “They also pushed vast riots all over the United States – looting, burning and killing”. Well, actually – no. They pushed riots and general unrest in a few very-well-defined-and-limited places – almost-all being cities where they already overwhelmingly control local politics anyway. In that sense, the riots were a vast own-goal – they only succeeded in completely coitus-ing up their own strongholds. Most people in outstate Minnesota could literally not give one single f**k that parts of downtown Minneapolis were destroyed. It’s entirely their own loss. Just because you saw non-stop all-riots-all-the-time coverage on all the major media outlets – doesn’t mean that they were widespread. In most places – even here in Detroit, which is about as far-Left as you can imagine – the local authorities took a strong line and that sort of nonsense was simply not permitted to start, even though there were protests a-plenty. It’s also worth noting that most of the places where serious rioting broke out, the rioters were overwhelmingly, almost-laughably-excessively white. “Control of the education system and the mainstream media (which is basically a group-think bubble) has allowed to international establishment to do this.” But that control is dissolving – in the US at least. Every day that the school teachers unions insist that teachers stay home, while still collecting a paycheck, another whole raft of parents say to themselves ‘hold on a minute . . . .?’ and walk away from the public school system – which is where this rot is rooted. Same with mainstream media, including ‘social’ media – look at what’s happening to Twitter. They just announced that CNN will no longer be the monopoly broadcaster in US airports – a thing I could not have ever imagined happening. Mainstream and “social” media are dead men walking, a self-supporting and self-referential bubble that’s shrinking rapidly and will soon collapse in on itself entirely. Stop paying attention to them. Simply stop. They already consist for the most part of Leftists talking at each other. Fine. Let them keep talking. The only value that they have right now is to broadcast exactly what is scaring the Left the most, because that’s all they talk about. In a week, President Trump will leave office. The Left is already clearly signalling that what they fear more than anything is that he will run in 2024 – hence this mad, crazed obsession with impeachment, which is their only path to prevent him from being President again. But in a week and a day, when President Trump is gone – then what? Then they own it. All of it. And all of Joey Babblegroper’s witless vapourings – his sole output to this point – will suddenly have to face the cold winds of reality. He’s been playing at being President for a couple of months, with his laughable self-created backdrops and his blabbering platitudes. Next week, the playing stops, and now everything that happens is on him. And we’ll see what we already suspect – he’s not only not up to the job, but all of his grand promises and the Leftist fever dreams of his party will vanish like a f**t in the wind. The Democrats are already splintering like a tree hit by lightning. Once they start trying to impose all of the madness they’ve been blathering about on Twitter on the population as a whole, the response is just going to be epic. They really think that their Twitter universe represents reality, and that because a few tens of thousands of people are talking about the same things on the Twitter and the Facebook, that this somehow represents the nation as a whole. It does not. Be of good cheer. You’re simply seeing the Left going through a rictus of self-pleasuring at their ‘win’, but in a few weeks, they’re going to learn just what they ‘won’. It’s going to be fun to watch. The only value in watching mainstream and ‘social’ media is to learn what the Left is babbling about today, on the basis that ‘when the flak is heaviest – that’s when you know you are directly over the target.’ They are happy to tell us just exactly what scares them the most, what they are most afraid of – all we have to do is use the information that they so-freely provide. I freely admit that I was 97.875% wrong about Trump when he was elected. One of the things he showed us was that he understood just exactly where the Left is most vulnerable, and he would relentlessly attack them on just those things. Once he is out of office, he will be able to keep doing that, and far-more of it. That’s why this crazed, seemingly-irrational pursuit of him, which makes no sense if he’s just the loser of the election. Who cares what Hillary Clinton says or does today? They are showing clearly that they are totally terrified of Trump, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Trying to keep him in check is going to take all their efforts, what will they have left over to run the country? Relax. Take a deep breath. Drink some good bourbon. Come back to this in a month or two. Unless I miss my guess, the whole landscape will be fundamentally different. llater, llamas https://www.samizdata.net/2021/01/samizdata-quote-of-the-day-1386/#comment-808473
Thanks to llamas. I’ve posted this ^comment on other threads, crediting him/her, of course.
It bears repeating that much of the media is mostly smoke and mirrors and, though their BLATHER is amplified, there are fewer wild eyed cranks out there than the “Woke” would have us believe. The crazy Left parallels the concept of the “Ugly American”, a descriptor that emerged in the 60’s. They are arrogant, ignorant boors who imagine they are the center of the universe. Clearly, they are too insular and small minded to have any realistic concept of the Real America. So Disney had a problem. Their marketing research showed that their content in the children 5-15 markets were extremely popular with girls, but pretty much ignored by boys, even after they tried crafting it specifically for what they perceived boys were looking for. This is a big part of the reason they spent billions on Marvel and Lucasfilm.
But the ideology was so deeply rooted in the company, that the first thing they did after purchasing the properties was to launch major efforts to make the franchises more appealing to girls. Consider four modes of communication, and how history was affected when new technology or new ideas brought forth a new mode:
1. One-to-one 2. One-to-many 3. Many-to-one 4. Many-to-many #1 needs no explanation. #2 is mass media - major milestones were the printing press, radio, and TV. Each revolutionized the world. #3 also revolutionized the world. It is when people vote - either with a ballot or with their money. It is democracy and capitalism, two of the most powerful and disruptive forces in history. The seminal year was 1776, with the Declaration of Independence and Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. #4 is what we are seeing now. We are in the middle of it, or perhaps just at the beginning of it, and we don't know how it will turn out. What an exciting time to be alive! Also scary. This way of thinking about history is not new with me. I got it from Douglas Adams (1952-2001), in his 1998 talk Is there an Artificial God? He saw just the beginning of the Internet Age, and even so, he could see how it was affecting our modes of communication. Alana Newhouse gets at this concept in her thought-provoking piece. Basically she says that communications mode #4 is leading to flatness. BTW that link (from her column) goes to a long, interesting essay by her husband, David Samuels, about Switzerland, religion, art, and many other things. Ms. Newhouse says: fight flatness! Agreed. |
