We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Taki: "The anti-Kavanaugh occupiers lost. The 2011 anti-Walker occupiers lost. The Occupy Wall Street occupiers lost (in that their monthslong exercise in poor hygiene and rape changed nothing regarding Wall Street). Smart humans would look at those losses and say, “That’s a tactic I shall not try.” But the right doesn’t have many smart humans. It has children who look at those unsuccessful tactics and say, 'Weeeeee, that looks like a hoot! Let’s fail like them, knowing that we’ll be judged harsher for it!'”
Very true. But... that isn't what happened. About a million people were there protesting. in addition an unknown number of the Democrat brown shirts were thereto cause trouble, and they did. Indeed some Republican Trump supporters were pulled into the violence, perhaps 0,001% of them but 99.999% of them did nothing wrong. But there was a HUGE unconstitutional event that day and that was a conspiracy by the left to deny all of those who protested the stolen election their civil rights. Punish anyone who committed violence or destroyed property but don't punish everyone simply because you did like their politics and their free speech.
Furthermore go back and make sure the same exact justice is meted out to all who rioted and committed crimes this Summer.

Re: limited war
For a long time I've known that Johnson's micromanaging the war doomed any possibility for success. But it was during the Iraq war that I decided that limited war was far less successful and far more damaging than "real" war.
The damage to the economy and populace in a protracted limited war is likely greater than a short unrestricted and focused one. In the case of the economy, the sooner a country can rebuild, the better and a protracted conflict postpones rebuilding. In terms of the civilians lost, I suspect that the numbers of collateral casualties of a limited vs "real" war is not that great but the difference is that we don't have to see a big number of collateral casualties in our newspapers but we see a long list of little numbers.
Looking at the wagers of the war (usually us), it should be that we only get in wars that warrant the expenditure and loss of young life. If we don't go into a conflict to achieve a goal, then we are wasting both and it seems that the longer we are in a conflict, the hazier the reason for our being there becomes (think Afghanistan).
The Queen, God Bless her, was thinking straight when she took Charles out of the line to the throne; he's always been a dope, and utterly lacking in any clarity of thought or common sense.
Er, I hate to break it to you, but the Prince of Wales will still succeed the Queen unless he dies before she does.
Finally! Daryl Issa just now on Fox actually said it. There were 4 different violent Democrat organization that showed up for the Trump rally to cause trouble and they were instrumental in the attack on the Capitol. Finally we are getting more facts out there.
Here is a Darkhorse podcast of two Leftist commentators on the Capital protests. Jeremy Lee Quinn was on the ground and in the Capitol on Jan 6. They focus on the biased, manipulative, and shallow quality of the media reporting and Jeremy Lee Quinn has some surprising observations.
I found it very informative and hope it goes viral. One of my takeaways was the commentary on media’s awareness that tribal outrage is the content most likely to be shared and the most PROFITABLE. They know it and exploit it and, it is, in fact, hard to believe that the intent isn’t to Balkanize the people of the United States.
Impeaching Trump forever. If they want to distract themselves with that, so much the better. Less energy left over to do other dangerous stuff.
By his own statements, Trump sees himself as an excellent lightning rod. He should still be able to do that, distracting those who cannot even see straight they so want to punish him. Remember how judges kept getting confirmed month after month, no matter what they were yelling at him about, and how diplomatic victories would keep emerging, to be furiously buried by his opponents. He can't do those things anymore, but I'll bet he can still draw their fire.
So now the ruling class asserts itself once more. They've found a way to condemn the "Basket of Deplorables" in a way to make the brand Official, now.
I'm sure that half the country will be just as convinced as they were, last time. And I'm looking forward to seeing all those truly unified Republican Senators standing up for what they think is right. They had better think carefully.
RE; David Cole's piece
So the eventual Walker defeat came from efforts which did not benefit from and were in theory held back by the Wisconsin Capitol protests. Hardly.
And the anti-Kavanaugh show was a loser because the skirmish it was being fought for confirmation, but not fund raising, not base building. Hardly
And defund the police just went away, not where I live.
There were outside agitators and loose cannons; but by current standards 1/6 was a mostly peaceful protest. Proof
is simple; where is the reference to the total crowd size.

I recall reading that the most psychologically damaging thing for the populace of the old Soviet Union was to have to publicly pretend Party fostered lies were true.
I fear the day is coming when we are forced to publicly agree with the tenets of Global Warming.
There was a recent essay to that effect by Theodore Dalrymple if you are interested in tracking it down.
Prince Charles (and at least one of his sons) are harbingers that the inbreeding of royals over generations has repercussions for future generations of them.
