Re: Brutalist Architecture

The Louisville Public Library looks exactly like the F.B.I. building. And what's funny is that there's no picture of the Louisville library on the Web. They just show "small parts" of the building, so people won't see what it actually looks like. The obviousness of the totalitarian intent is embarrassing. And near Louisville, there's a quaint small town called LaGrange. It has two hundred years of history, and it's the birthplace of the famous director D.W. Griffith. But the kids will never know that, because there's no local history taught anymore. And to make sure that history disappears in LaGrange, they built a new library in the Japanese style. So the kids will appreciate Japanese architecture, not American Colonial history. But don't ask who decided to build a Japanese library in LaGrange with public tax money. They won't tell you.

And that's the real intent of brutalist architecture. To make people feel insignificant. It's very similar to the giant buildings that the Russians built, extolling the new Soviet man. Greatness, but without intellect. In Russia, greatness is heroism in support of government objectives. The six Police officers who warned people about the bomb in Nashville were put on T.V. and hailed as heroes, even though they hadn't done anything; except wear a government-issued uniform. That was enough. All of those brutalist buildings will have to eventually be torn down, and replaced with architecture that is in keeping with American culture and tradition. People can vote for their favorite design.
