Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I too have listened to Rush Limbaugh since the 80s. He is very thoughtful in laying out what is going on in this country and politics. We still know Republicans that think he is a waste of time but who have probably never listened to him or only listen to the media criticize him. After all, they hate all of us for our more patriotic and conservative views. Hopefully he will be around longer than it seems as we need a rallying figure in the media to help in these tough times.
If Biden wins, conservative voices, any voice of descent on the radio, or for that matter on any public forum, will not be long on the air. Robert Reich's call for a "truth and reconciliation commission to “erase Trump’s lies” and expose those who “enabled” them," is not an outlier. These people have been telling us who they are, what they believe, and how to get there - by any means necessary - for many, many years now. Even the great Rush Limbaugh would pooh pooh callers that were calling these people communist, back in the early 90's. While it may be true, that they were not actual communist; communist being shorthand for a totalitarian person, who believes that government is the end all center of the universe, that rules with an iron fist, they were communist kissing cousins. Those that went before the likes of AOC, have always had the same goal: The destruction of the US Constitution. The enslavement of people to the will of a few power hungry mad, men and women. It is the history of civilization. America was a giant leap in rights for the individual. Now we wait to see if the great experiment will voted out of existence.
There's no fool like an old fool, and Congress seems to specialize in a particular subspecies of ridiculous, aggregious Old White Fools.
In which Brown University students explain why all but, especially Ivy League, liberal arts colleges are a waste of time and money...
Re: Chinese views on Democracy
The Chinese people have never been exposed to democracy, so their opinion on the subject is of limited value. It's like asking a blind man about colors. With that said, there is no political system in the world which can deal with such high levels of population growth. Very soon, the Chinese people will be drowning under a ocean of elderly, all of whom need care. And it's the same in America. So regardless of which political system the Chinese prefer, they can't take care of a billion old people. America can't either. Some other solution will have to be found. There's the rub. The lasting impression I had from the first time I went to China was people, People, PEOPLE. I couldn't believe how large the country was and how many people it had. It literally dwarfs America. A "medium sized" city in the "second tier" of Chinese cities, with a name you've never heard of, can have 15-20 million people. (By comparison, New York has 8.4 million people and L.A. has 4 million.) Cities are one big massive traffic and people jam.
While not a supporter of the CCP, I can understand why China has a predilection for an authoritarian government. Just thinking about how I was going to take care of all those people and keep them housed and fed would keep me awake at night. With that many people, it would not take much instability to have everything start coming down, which has been a large part of the history of China. Certainly, if the government of China was as dysfunctional and divided as the U.S. government is, you would have total chaos. I watched the documentary "Waiting for Superman" which follows several students as they try to get into charter schools, etc. and out of the miserably failing public schools. There was no indictment of either party for the failings of the schools until one of the main educators at the center of the doc said " The democrat party is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the teacher's unions."
The unions don't give one sh*t about our kids; they care about having the maximum amount of teachers paying union dues. And as long as there is a democrat to teacher's union money-laundering operation nothing is ever going to change. re Rush
My hat is off to Rush. I can only speculate that he is still broadcasting because 1) He loves it, and 2) Because he loves his country so much that he feels he must fight for her to his dying breath. His loss will be a serious blow to the Right. I don't think he can be replaced. If Biden wins does that mean that the Democrat governors will lift the lockdowns and other restrictions intended to cause us all pain so that we would vote Trump out?
If Biden wins will he call off the Democrat rioters and looters who are destroying our cities? If Biden wins does that mean he will ship our jobs overseas again and open the flood gates to immigration and H1B workers to take our jobs here at home? My state average deaths from Covid went up to 9 a day. This caused the commie governor to lock us down again/still. Oddly, our total deaths from other causes has gone down (wait for it) by about 9 a day. Wait, what? Yeah, our average daily death rate is the same as it has been for years now but because of the election or Trump or to make us all suffer, or whatever, the governor has put the squeeze on small businesses... again. With the covid tests running 50%-100% false positives we attribute 9 deaths out of 4,300,000 to covid and we shut down and bankrupt small businesses.
Is anyone else thinking we have just undergone the biggest scam since global warming? Asking for a friend. Pointing these type of numbers out to the Mayor of Denver, will get you labeled as a science denier.
I get up at seven yeah, and I go to work at nine. I got no time for living, yes I'm worki.........Oh. Nevermind.
Coming from WA/BC border crossings, where there are many patrol officers, cameras, intense grilling of "Why are you crossing?" Documents in both directions.
Imagine our surprise being in Arizona where you're not on the border, just driving a road, when you come on a "border" checkpoint. No document request. Maybe just waved through. If you don't like it, take a different road. Or drive through the sagebrush around. I suppose they have means to hunt you down if they feel the need. but Really? No wonder we need a southern border/wall. It's like we're being laughed at: The Rules? oh, those are just for schmucks that will follow them. What I don't know is if there actually is a US checkpoint at the mexico border, and these are a secondary watch point. In which case, nevermind. I didn't know you could die from eating too much licorice, but I'm safe because I hate the taste. Don't like anything with anise in it either.
