Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I disagree with the criticisms of early voting for several reasons. First of all, in Texas early voting is NOT the same as vote-by-mail or absentee voting. You go to the polling place, show your ID and registration, and physically complete and verify your ballot. It is precisely the same process with the same safeguards as on election day.
Second, my husband and I are eligible to vote by mail because of our age. We voted in person the first possible day so that any fraudulent mail-in vote submitted on our behalf would be rejected. Third, a coworker and I used to be enthusiastic about voting ON election day. Then her father-in-law died two days before the election in another state. It was too late to early vote and she could not be there on election day, so she wasn't able to vote that year. That event convinced me that waiting until election day had its own set of risks. And I am now at an age where, although it isn't likely, it's a possibility that I might not be alive on election day. Finally, I was absolutely sure of my votes and knew that no last minute surprises would change them. If I felt otherwise, I might wait. We used to vote on election day. Now we vote mid-way through the 2-weeks of early voting. Shorter wait. Just like regular voting. Bring photo ID, get ballot, go into voting booth, vote. Easy peasy!
Same for me, but I went at the start of the absentee ballot period, much like #1 above.
The routine was: go to municipal building, show ID and have your name checked off the list of voters, get ballot, mark it, put it an envelope (signed and dated by me and a municipal witness), and place it with others for scanning starting on November 3. While there's always the possibility of have one's vote discarded during the interval between last week and scanning on November 3, this is a small suburban municipality, and the municipal administrator oversees the process in person. The election workers are also municipal staff. When the manufactured COVID hysteria is over, I expect to vote in person again on Election Day as I always have before, but we'll see what the situation is like then. Re: Trump enthusiasm tends to be censored
Back in the Deep South, in the days of old, long since, we understood that the barking dog generally wasn't a problem. The one that quit barking, however, was fixin' to bite yer ass ... or any other more convenient part of you, if it was closer. It would seem the Professional Talkers are unaware of this. Then again, they're unaware of so very much. "10pm lockdown on bars"
Why not 9pm or 11 pm? The answer is that this is nothing more than a attempt by a politician to appear to be "doing something". It does not matter to the politician that they may be bankrupting small businesses and destroying lives. Politics requires that they appear to be doing something so by god they will regardless of if it is effective or causes great harm. The worst thing they can do is to appear to not have the answer and to not act. They are like the deer on the side of the road that as your car draws closer the need to act becomes more and more urgent until they run out in front of your car. Squirrels tend to do the same sort of thing, too; and yet we we never seem to run out of 'em.
So we're to believe that early voting is evil because it's difficult to change your vote after it's cast. Something might come across the news that changes everything! [i[Everything!![/i]
But some of us don't watch the news at all, and many of us are correctly skeptical when we do - with a high tonnage of precedent and recent evidence to remind us 'why'. And even more of us grownups are not swayed by the news. We're just old fossils, foolishly believing what our lyin' eyes and ears are telling our gray matter. We prefer not to let our vote dangle to be shifted by whatever the latest puff of hot air suggests we do. Believe it or not, we can make up our own mind and take action, and are able to handle the consequences. Consequences; that what elections are made of. Re: Chelsea Handler

In the ad the Biden campaign claims President Trump called black women as a group such names as “low I.Q.”, “unhinged” and “crazy.” The ad continues… He compared us to a dog and told us to go back to where we came from.” This is completely false. If you look at the chart in the story, you'll see that Biden recommends a tax rate of 62%. That's insane for several reasons. First, that's not the total tax rate. If you factor inflation, and other taxes, the total tax rate would be around 80%. Secondly, when they say "tax rate" they mean taxes on current income; not property taxes on securities like stocks and bonds, and family trusts. So the tax rate for rich people would be 20% and the tax rate for poor people would be 80%. That's also insane. The third thing is that government employees have "tenure" just like a university professor. They can't be fired, or demoted to a lower salary. The fourth thing is that Medicare places very few limits on what a hospital or doctor can charge for procedures; as a result the hospitals milk old people for as much expensive care as possible, at taxpayer expense. 90 year old men get heart surgery and knee replacements for free. Young people pay full price. America's cost structure is out of control. But Washington D.C. is trying to avoid the problem by raising taxes to incredible levels, and by turning America into a communist country. Nowadays, being on welfare pays much more than working. Therefore, the only answer is to reduce the total tax rate, including everything, down to ten percent. Cancel Section 8, EBT will become food boxes, and require that all doctors and hospitals publish prices. Then, make Family Trusts illegal. All assets must be subject to a property tax. But rich people own Washington, so that will never happen. Instead, we'll get a giant payroll-tax increase on poor people, universal income for black people, and a collapse of our industrial base as factories seek lower costs in Mexico and China. That will be the beginning of the end. For them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR2Uon5BWC0 I just read an article which is not very honest.
https://www.theorganicprepper.com/food-shortages-china/#comment-1003470 The concept of "food insecurity" is designed to avoid any reference to global population growth. Earth has close to nine billion people, while it should have only two billion. But the girls who work in the United Nations building don't want to talk about that. Here's their position: Females can have as many children as they want; with total disregard to the outcome. America has no moral obligation to feed an increasing number of hungry foreign people. Our food is grown on our land, to feed our people. It is not available for sale to any foreign country. American cattle ranchers would love to sell all of their beef overseas, because they get a better price. So American consumers are forced to compete with the whole world for American food. That must be stopped immediately. No more grain or meat exports. We have to face the grim truth: Overpopulated countries like India, and Bangladesh, and China, and Nigeria are going to run out of food very soon. But it's their own fault, and there's nothing that we can do about it. Destroying our oceans and farmland to feed an infinite number of people is not a solution. The only real solution is to reduce global population back down to two billion people. That means no more ocean fishing, and no more farmland destruction. Stuart Schneiderman says that "It's time to get over our bigotry about China". http://stuartschneiderman.blogspot.com/2020/10/is-china-new-evil-empire.html There is no bigotry against China. On the contrary, Washington D.C. has been played for the bunch of rubes and suckers that they really are. China is on a collision course with the United States, and if we allow China to continue growing, we will face a communist menace of incredible proportions. You know what they say: "A stitch in time saves nine." China never developed any political system resembling a democracy. Their military is becoming increasingly belligerent, and they are trying to take over Africa. We should deal with them now, while we still can. The real China is a small country. Tibet and Taiwan are free and independent states. "Food insecurity" is, in essence, Leftist code for areas populated by minorities that have a Wal-Mart but don't have a Whole Foods. Lefties absolutely hate it when people exercise their own choices for groceries and don't choose what Lefties think is right for them.
'Food insecurity' is where your parents get $400 a month in food stamps that they sell for $200 so they can buy drugs. The schools deliver lunch to your home because schools are closed but they don't deliver breakfast and dinner. The parents don't have a job because then they would lose welfare. each of the parents weigh well over 200 lbs and the kids look well fed. But there is 'food insecurity' so let's increase welfare.
IMHO any parents who get food stamps but whose children also gets free lunch at school should be charged with fraud. "Food Insecurity" is where leftists burn down grocery stores, 7-Elevens, CVS's, Walgreens, etc. to create Food Deserts and blame everyone else but themselves, especially the uncaring Trump and his supporters.
re California: The Grinch who stole Thanksgiving
One wonders why decrees are made that can't possibly be enforced? Oh sure, there will likely be some snitches that rat on their neighbors and call the authorities . . . . who must have nothing better to do, but they won't be able to persecute more than a tiny minority of those gathering for Thanksgiving. Still, I expect this edict will be widely ignored. Indeed, many people may not even know of it. This is what dems love to do. There is no facet of our private lives that they don't want to control. “Uh, Why Would You Do That?”
Because they're letting the mask slip. They intend to get rid of fossil fuels because people like them. The fact that green energy is far more expensive and far less reliable than fossil fuels is just a bonus. Human beings are a cancer upon the Earth and must be punished, it's pure genius to take away their cheap energy and their 24/7/365 access to it. You must pay more for your electricity and you'll be lucky to get 6 hours a day every other day. It's more than you deserve, you filthy, evil, greedy pigs until you repent of your sins against Mother Earth. |
