Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re COVID virus becoming less lethal: It's not hard to see how selective pressure can lead to this. The longer the virus can stay in the host and keep it sneezing and shedding new virus without killing it in the process, the more copies of it will be in circulation. Varieties that kill their host quickly will tend to lose that numbers game over time and may even become extinct.
Eric Weinstein's smackdown of his brother Eric's Facebook's cancelling is brilliant and on target - it's linked in the story.
The Biden/Harris campaign and Democratic platform aren't the only ones harping that hydrocarbon consumption must be eliminated. Several of the EU countries have also enacted resolutions to move this into policy. The EU now has a policy in place to eliminate internal combustion engine sales by 2030 or 2040 (depending on which country). But critically, none of these back-door ploys have any kind of plan in place to support the policy. There's no plan because the technology doesn't exist, which means these politicians are playing the laziest, cheapest most dangerous form of policy making: Wishful thinking. They really don't know how anything is done on a practical level, and apparently none of their experts do, either. A Handful of Asteroid Could Help Decipher Our Entire Existence: Says The ATLANTIC, which I gave up on yearrrs ago.

IIRC Reich called it a Truth and Reconciliation Commission within the last week. This means cancel culture writ large. "The beatings will continue until morale improves," as the old saw goes. Why would politicians advocate for eliminating fossil fuels?
Because grifters gotta grift! Do you really think this is about global warming? This is a left wing Marxist/socialist effort to take over the U.S. and take over the world. It depends on propaganda and a particularly stupid and easily led cadre of people to back it. They push this propaganda in schools and social media. It is a UN backed, political elite backed scam to take your rights and your wealth. A Handful of Asteroid Could Help Decipher Our Entire Existence. A NASA mission to a distant space rock could reveal clues about the early solar system. So....What if the asteroid originated far outside the Solar system? Say, from a system a couple light years away? Oh nooooo! Say it ain't so!
Jerry Jeff Walker, Singer Who Wrote "Mr. Bojangles," Dies at 78 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/jerry-jeff-walker-singer-who-wrote-mr-bojangles-dies-at-78 Probably the three songs he was best known for performing:
Up Against the Wall Redneck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L25xkZntMdM Mr. Bojangles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw2sKgUYSww LA Freeway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLAuzVb-C_o I have had the talk:
I have two granddaughters who I discussed marriage and relationships with. I advised them to put aside a little money just incase and tell no one. I said that if a boyfriend or husband hits or threatens to hit you that you should leave them but do it safely without confrontation if possible; as in the next day when he goes to work pack your stuff and go to a friends, your parents or grandparents. I explained the legal issues; calling 911, getting a restraining order, domestic violence laws, etc. I also advised them to make friends with neighbors and other older adults so that they would know someone close that they could trust and call for help. I talked about date rape drugs and the dangers of simply getting drunk. I also talked to my grandson and advised him that if a relationship goes sour that his partner could well charge him with domestic violence or take out a restraining order just to take advantage of him. That he should always know how much money he has in his wallet because people who are close to you might steal from you. I told him that if his partner tries to create a confrontation or worse that he should be as nice as he can be and leave for awhile. But then at the first opportunity when she is not home to remove his property and put it someplace safe so it doesn't get destroyed or thrown away. And if any of these things happen to get far away from her and end the relationship. Men have gone to jail even without doing anything wrong simply because the woman needed him gone so she could cheat on him. I told him too of the dangers of simply getting drunk. That's probably good defensive advice. I would hope that before it gets to those scenarios that the grandkids are taught enough about character and how to read it that they wouldn't need that advice. Certainly there are edge conditions where your advice might would become useful.
One thing Mrs. mudbug and I have noted is that we were very lucky, We did not take the time or make the effort to get to know each other as well as we should. In our case, it worked out well but kids should be advised to take that time and make that effort to know your partner. This includes knowing what is important to each other, how (and who) money is handled, expectations in child rearing, religious views, political views, and much much more. I think this is an aspect of getting married that most doen't take seriously Fortunately, my wife and I had already been non-romantic friends for a year or two before we started going out. We got engaged a couple of months after that, and married 10 months after our first "date." So basically I married my best friend, and we've been happily married for 37 years after that. I consider myself very fortunate in how it happened. (A much better way to do it than having some big emotional/physical "being in love" crush on someone, and then have it all fall apart later. Also been there, done that, it was pretty devastating and took several years for me to recover and then realize I had "The One" sitting right next to me.)
I like the way you did it, Jim.
We're both really lucky!

So Hunter takes more than 20 trips on Air Force 2, and for what reason? Is there even any doubt? Lets gloss it over by calling it, selling access. Old school Joe doesn't even think selling access is wrong (Thanks Rush), just the way thing work. Oddly if the access is only what others have (lobbyists), then no value is given and Hunter is committing fraud. If the access is something special, how can it be rightly sold by Hunter. Joe is the thug who chauffeurs the gunmen to a drive by shooting.
Too funny:

I am a Proud Western Sandwich! You've been warned. Re: “A Glorious Day For Peace”
Israel, it seems, has delusions of grandeur. Or maybe Jewish people are incurable optimists. All this talk about peace agreements with the various Arab countries mean nothing. Japan and China have a peace agreement, but China violates the agreement all the time. So is it really an agreement? No, because for China, propaganda and incendiary behavior towards Japan are normal. China is hopelessly duplicitous. And its the same with all of the Arab countries. An "agreement" with Egypt is about as good as a signature on a cocktail napkin. Arabs don't keep their word. So when things heat up, and millions of Palestinians get evicted from Gaza and the West Bank, all those "peace loving" Arabs countries will condemn Israel, and then possibly declare war. There is no way for Israel to avoid expelling the Palestinians. So it's pointless for Israel to pursue diplomatic relations with Arab countries who will turn against Israel when the inevitable happens. Netenyahu would be better off planning for what's actually going to happen. Not for what he would like to see happen. The only Palestinian solution is no Palestinians. |
