Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Nature magazine endorses Biden"
The article reads like a DNC press release. Long on accusations, short on facts of any kind. Apparently, Nature has gone the way of Scientific American and Smithsonian. New York Times: Time To Get Rid of Free Speech
What about their free speech? They already self-censor, do they not? They only print Democrat approved stories/fables. What would change? I'm against free speech. It should be illegal to say anything against free speech.
Power? Why from fifteen billion squirrel and hamster wheels of course. Just ask Greta.
In the two comments above, it shows that the media and the Dems are in cahoots.
Here’s how the media is misreporting COVID-19’s death toll in America: This is why I despise, detest, ans distrust the media. ‘Die in a fire’: Twitter employees reveal deep hatred for Trump. "Malox stox ROCKET UP" Sorry, NYTimes, But There’s Only One Constitution: The NYT has a weasel eating their guts. (It wears a Trump t-shirt.) New York Times: Time To Get Rid of Free Speech: Let's start with YOURS!!!!! What the MSM TV coverage doesn’t show you at a Biden Potemkin rally; The truth. What do WE see? Their LIES. When Did Americans Lose Their British Accents?
It's an interesting question. I am sure this isn't the last word on the topic. FWIW. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/when-did-americans-lose-their-british-accents Interesting. I grew up in a small town in Canada close to the US border. Every summer, as we ran barefoot through dusty streets, we would encounter American tourists looking for the snow and skiing. Our town had a great ski hill (though, as said hill had been mined out fairly thoroughly, it was distinguished by small tripods with flagging to denote airholes to the mine working below), but skiing lasted until early April at the best.
That being so, there was a definite accent difference between our town (and nearby communities) and those from south of the border. I have often been told I have a British accent (courtesy of my family) but do not think my accent was much different from that of my classmates. Despite the many connections between my small town and a somewhat larger city in the US, those differences were still there. The media likely is misreporting CoVid deaths. They are definitely higher, probably much higher. The theory that they could possibly be false-counting other deaths as C19 is overtaken by the data that overall deaths are higher from a variety of causes, especially pneumonia, in a pattern that matches the rises and falls of CoVid cases. One key point is that many states require a confirmed CoVid diagnosis before it can be entered on a death certificate, and of course no one is ordering tests to confirm on folks who are already dead.
Extra deaths are extra deaths. Scrambling to find any other explanation just to confirm one's political beliefs is not science. One of my commenters, and ICU nurse, said "If you came in for CoVid symptoms, a test confirms you have it, and you die breathing your own fluids right on schedule, the doctor has to write something in the slot. Calling it a CoVid death is okay." Why would the media undercount the deaths?
That makes no sense to me. From my perspective, the media is a campaign arm for the democrats. They have built a narrative that COVID is all Trump’s fault. Every single death that can be laid at his feet, is further evidence of what an incompetent, uncaring devil he is; why truncate the total? First you have to accept the data that there are well over 300,000 excess deaths for this year beginning exactly when CoVid hit. This is in spite of the reduction in other contagious illnesses because the lockdown also reduced their spread. The deaths are there. Then we go looking for explanations.
It's all very CS Lewis in spirit. We have to take the facts as they are before proceeding. It's no good saying "I can see a reason why it should be the other way that better fits what I think the media would do." "First you have to accept the data that there are well over 300,000 excess deaths for this year beginning exactly when CoVid hit."
Source? What happens when you tell a lie often enough:

I'm happy to see it wasn't just me having problems with Maggie's. Thought maybe that company was cutting us off and censoring our comments.
Likewise - I was trying different avenues to get here and finding a strange white page regarding the domain name. I too thought that the Chinese had memory-holed this site.
Hope the Chinese don't now have my 20,000 emails. That would be bad.
I still have that domain page today on a computer under VPN. I'm guessing that is the blocker.
re New York’s Year from Hell - The city faces a daunting recovery from Covid-19, but it can do much to ensure that its many distinctive industries survive.
QUOTE: New York’s future is uncertain, but government can do much to ensure that the world continues to choose the city as a home, office, or place to visit. Gotham can protect the quality of life from Fordham Road to Eighth Avenue. The state can ensure that mass transit improves, rather than crumbles, so that riders come back. Both levels of government can mediate commercial-rent relief, coupled with property-tax relief for owners who agree to ease up on rent. A sales-tax holiday for retailers and restaurants, from October through the holidays, at least, would entice shoppers and diners back. Underpinning all this, New York will surely need more federal aid directed to attaining such goals. If it can reach the other side of the pandemic, New York City can live again. Anyone see NY state/city government giving any tax breaks to small business? No. I thought not. Furthermore, how will they make infrastructure improvements with their tax revenue crushed? If anything, taxes will go up a lot more when the state and local governments finally come to grips with how far they have put their economy, and by extension, their tax income, into the toilet. I think they will try to tax their way to prosperity. We'll see how THAT works out. Of course if Biden wins then the rest of us can pick up the tab for NYC's folly. NYC may recover. But something has happened that cannot be taken back. Billionaires and millionaires have learned that they can be happy and continue working outside of New York AND save a small fortune in taxes. Ditto for many businesses. A lot of these people won't go back to NYC. Those who will stay and those who will come in and fill the vacuum will look and act a lot like those who are responsible for NYC's skyrocketing crime rate. They will also be Democrat voters who will elect De Blasio "look alikes" or worse. NYC will become the San Francisco of the East.
Why Nature supports Joe Biden for US president: They are foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooools. And liars.
The Biden Emails Prove Impeachment Was A Sham: And obvious at the time. Media, Democrats Melt Down Over ‘Nodding Woman’ From NBC’s Trump Town Hall: The HORROR!!!! The horror.... The "laugh my ass off"... Hatred of Trump leads to liberal confusion about what to do: Bari Weiss gets it, and she also doesn’t: He has Jews in his family. Bari is soooooooooooooooooo conflicted. Hatred of Trump leads to liberal confusion about what to do: Bari Weiss gets it, and she also doesn’t
Matt Taibbi seems to be in the same boat as Weiss, BUT given his former mentor/mentee relationship with Stefan Halper, I think he may be currently following some sort of CYA strategy to toe the line and be able to plead ignorance down the road. Regarding the nodding black woman seated behind Trump at his Town Hall. I didn't see the funniest part in the Legal Insurrection story. The funniest part was that there was originally a Caucasian woman seated on that stool. The producers elected to have the women exchange seats before the event started, I guess because they preferred the optics of Orange Man in the 'Colored' crowd. Too bad their stereotypes didn't come with a warranty.
She's from the Dominican Republic, a pretty recent immigrant, and is already testing the waters to run for office. Good for Her! I wonder how long I have to reside in Michigan to be able to vote for John James?
Two (or three) constitutions.
I've practiced constitutional law for decades and I've never once heard anything about "two constitutions" except for the real two constitutions every citizen lives under, the US Constitution and your state constitution. |
