We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"Cashier at Business Being Pillaged By Black Lives Matter Rioters..."
That should read "Black Looters Matter".
It is interesting that the far left rioters can break windows, loot stores, attack innocent people, destroy private property and no police and no effort to stop them. But let one home/business owner stand up to them and the police come in and arrest him and he faces months of legal limbo, hundreds of thousands in legal fees and the possibility of being sent to jail. It's almost as though that was the intent all along; that is to have the brown shirts run amuck so that they can weed out anyone who dares stand up to them.
I have been watching the Peoples Pundit, a YouTube channel. Baris, the host, is kinda Spergy about polls and statistical analysis. He asks, if 250,000 jobs are created would you rather they be in manufacturing or at McDonald's etal. The answer tells the tale.
What the author means is make drugs legal. I always assume that people who espouse this use drugs. I do not know anyone who has children and is NOT a drug user who wants to make drugs legal. Drugs are literally destroying our country. Yes! The fight to keep drugs out is difficult just as the fight to protect children from pedophiles is difficult or to stop/decrease domestic violence is difficult. Should we legalize pedophilia or domestic violence because the fight to stop it is difficult?
Almost all crime is the result of illegal drugs. As much as 80% of murders, 90% of burglary and most violent crimes are the result of drug use or drug selling. Should we just turn a blind eye to this?
The problem with America's war on drugs is we are prosecuting it about the same way we waged the Vietnam war. We never intended to win or use all our abilities to attack the cause and center of the problem. We just endlessly nip around the edges of the drug problem. In some countries if you bring drugs into their country you get the death penalty and it happens damn quickly and on TV. What we do instead is spend billions prosecuting drug crimes and send them to jail and later decide to let them out early and surprisingly they return to selling drugs. We need to get serious and we need to force other countries to stop exporting drugs to us.
Well, OneGuy if we made the drugs legal most of that crime that you are worried about would disappear. There would be no need to murder or rob to get your drugs. It would eliminate the need to protect large amounts of cash. The drugs would not be adulterated, and the taxes on the sales could be used to fund rehab for those that want that. Just like with alcohol driving under the influence would remain a crime, as would child endangerment or neglect.
We should also eliminate almost all traffic regulations except for reckless driving and (my personal pet peeve) not keeping to the right on divided highways. Most of these penalties are just revenue makers.
Then the police could concentrate on real serious crimes
That is indeed the claim that many people make. But ask yourself why would that be true. Most burglary is committed so that addicts can get enough money to afford drugs. They would still have to do that if it were legal. Most murders are committed because of conflicts between gangs who sell drugs and sex. They will still sell drugs and sex if it is legal. Most violent crime is committed by drug addicts in their drug addled state, if drugs are legal they will still cause a drug addled state of mind.
I don't think you have a case you can prove. Do your homework!
