Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Devious Democrats wanting to cancel the hearings makes me wonder whether Trump and Lee were intentionally dosed
With the current 'Anything goes' method of the Dems trying for power, it wouldn't surprise me.
First NYT publishes negative story about antifa.
Then NYT publishes defense of Hong Kong crackdown. Sneaking up on advocacy of post-election suppression after a presumed Biden win? "[It] begs the question of how you expect to run an electric car fleet that will come with significant increases in electricity demand, when you can’t even keep the lights on today."
How dare you attempt to tether our aspirational commands with actual math and science. Shut up and Obey or be cancelled! It's not just a matter of blackouts from forest fires. California doesn't produce enough electrical energy to cover its consumption. About a quarter of California's electrical energy consumption is imported from other states.
Can you even have all electric cars without massive government subsidies. While you and I buy a new car at the sticker price a savvy buyer of an electric car gets Uncle Sam and the state to pay as much as half of the sticker price for their car. When some multi-trillion dollar company advertises on TV that they are converting their fleet to all electric they don't tell you that the total subsidy from government approaches 100%. Additionally there are literally thousands of free (subsidised) plug in charging stations spread around the state. Will that continue? Will the state become the car nanny?
One other point; there is not enough raw materials to build batteries for this many cars. It may be possible to mine enough but not without great destruction to the environment. This ban idea is incredibly stupid You struck pay dirt, with your last paragraph. The batteries. It’s the part of the equation that isn’t considered.
The good news is the resources are there. The bad news is they have already been bought up by China.
QUOTE: Can you even have all electric cars without massive government subsidies. ... To wit, my FB feed has been virtually spammed by ads for a seriously cheap EV built by - you guessed it - a Red Chinese concern. It gets more interesting, in thst their price point is net of a $7.5K Federal subsidy. This is a preview of what the Green New Deal will really be. Re: Left Wing Governor Of Washington State Freaks Out As Boeing Moves Production To South Carolina
You mean the left likes big business now? No, the left likes obedience. Businesses are handy things to have around for cash flow and taxable future subjects.
Gov. Jay Inslee said Boeing's move would also force him to take "a hard look at the company’s favorable tax treatment."
So Inslee threatens Boeing when they still have a boatload of production and employees still in Washington state. What an inept buffoon. However, thuggery is what Dems do best. It's likely in his nature. If I were Boeing I'd be looking at moving the remaining production lines. Ok, now watch me demonize businesses and coddle mobs. But wait, why is the business leaving before I've finished?!?! Boeing, you get back here!!!
If POTUS had contracted covid when Bojo did, I would have been alarmed. Hard to believe that it was in April. Has time stood still for MSM? Do they not know of the emergence of successful therapeutics?

I find this item concerning Turkey a bit more interesting: Turkey Calls France's Bluff By Fueling The Armenian Conflict QUOTE: Armenia and Azerbaijan entered the third day in what could be described as open war without any official declaration. The historic faultline between traditional European Christendom and Ottoman frontiers once again erupted with bloodshed on both sides, and older great powers slowly beginning to take sides. France and Russia have, thus far, broadly backed Armenia. Turkey, however, is sending supplies and soldiers to assist Azerbaijan . . . . . . What we essentially have here is a new frontline between two NATO partner countries and historic great powers, France and Turkey. If the news of Turkish intervention on behalf of Azerbaijan is true, then Turkey just raised the stakes against France. This is a security issue for Europe and Europeans to solve themselves, as they face a Turkey which is far more vengeful than former foes in Russia. https://thefederalist.com/2020/10/02/turkey-calls-frances-bluff-by-fueling-the-armenian-conflict-and-the-results-could-reshape-europe/ re Schumer Reiterates Dems Still Plan On Adding States and Eliminating the Filibuster
The History of the Filibuster QUOTE: Binder notes that the filibuster was not part of the original design of the Senate and the creation of the cloture rule was not a statement of the Senate’s love for supermajority rules, but rather the product of hard-nose bargaining with an obstructive minority. https://www.brookings.edu/testimonies/the-history-of-the-filibuster/ I understand the concern for threats to give unconstitutional statehood to DC, but the reason for the hyperventilating over the filibuster rule escapes me. As I understand it, it's a Senate rule, and the Senate can make what ever rules they want to run the body. The article says as part of trumps daily regimen he takes aspirin to protect from the virus. What does the spirin do?
I've read that some suffer from blood clots with the virus and aspirin is a blood thinner.
With regard to Boeing moving the 787 production to the south. We need to always consider the impact on Boeing's relationship with the Chinese. This is a brilliant PR move as many of those jobs will go into a traditionally under employed black community. I believe that is a good thing. But, it also strengthens the position of the unions in a state that is unprepared for the depth and reach into the government, and culture of this newly tapped community. Double edged sword here and Boeing knows it!
Re John Yoo's new book
----------------------------------------------------- John Yoo will probably be Trump's next nominee to the Supreme Court. Re: Critical race theory.
http://bastionofliberty.blogspot.com/2020/10/one-order-of-completely-out-of-patience.html QUOTE: Governor Jay Inslee@GovInslee Let me be clear - when the market for airplanes comes back, Boeing must bring these jobs back to Washington state. Sounds familiar: QUOTE: President Barack Obama So let me be clear - if you like your doctor or health care provider, you can keep them. If you like your health care plan, you can keep that too. In re: Trump’s failure to offer a new health care plan could be why he loses
I'm glad we have Smart People™ like Rich Lowry to advise Trump on what he needs to do. Getting bogged down in the minutia of a health care overhaul is just the sort of rocket fuel he needs to ignite his campaign. It's not as if health care reform has nothing to do with actual health care reform and everything to do with slopping the hogs at the feeding trough. Sure, health care reform might be easy once you take the politics out of it, but so is bailing out the Pacific Ocean once you take the water out of it. Health care reform is a tarbaby of a topic and if Rich Lowry doesn't know that, what has he said worth listening to? "Turkey's Erdogan says Jerusalem 'is our city'"
Jerusalem hasn't been "Turkey's city" since 11 December 1917, when then-General Edmund Allenby GOC Egyptian Expeditionary Force defeated the Ottomans there and entered the Old City on foot through the Jaffa Gate to take possession. Dream on, Erdogan. Mask servitude! Trump did not express sufficient mask servitude. He didn't demand it or express support of it so he deserves to die from covid-19. But others who have expressed the correct and sufficient mask servitude have also gotten covid-19. That's puzzling since the mask prevents transmission of the disease as we all know (or at least all who express mask servitude). But still one must wonder why did so many mask wearers and mask devotees get covid-19? Perhaps they came closer than 6' of some other human in the last 6 months. Maybe they failed to bow to the left wing leaders who demand mask servitude and this is their punishment. But still it is a mystery since the mask is infallible...
