Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

NYT bombshell

NYT Bombshell Essentially Boils Down to This: Trump Paid Millions in Taxes, Owes No Debt to Russia


Nice try, NYT. Wealthy business people hire people called tax lawyers. So do lots of regular people like me.

Oooh--tax avoidance behavior. That sounds icky, doesn't? In fact it refers to anything any of us does when we take advantage of a legal deduction. It's not to be confused with tax "evasion," which is illegal. But the NYT knows many voters won't know or care about the difference.

Odd that the President used existing laws to minimize his tax liability. That should be a news flash for all the kazzilionares and their tax lawyers and accountants, that not everyone in the US is panicking in front of TurboTax, trying to find another deduction late the evening of 14 April.

You blokes got any paper that's not left? "The Australian", or national paper is about the only one that is straight. And every second story isn't about Cough-19 of Global Warming.

NYT having difficulty coming to grip with the fact that they don't matter any more.

Only so many times you can cry "wolf" before the townspeople tune you out.

The NYT bought two Boston newspapers for 1.4 billion dollars about twenty years ago. They wound up taking a huge loss and selling them for seventy million. Think that they took the loss on their income tax? Nah, they would never do anything that grubby.
