Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

It's clear to me that Breonna Taylor's death is on Kenneth Walker's hands.
It's clear to me that Breonna Taylor's death is on Breonna Taylor's hands. She has been making very bad choices about her friends since, at least, 2016 when indictments were handed out for her involvement in a drug operation.
That $12 Million judgment for her family is the DUMBEST move evah! Attorney Ben Crump seems to be making millions off these DUMB cases as I remember him being the #1 actor, second only to the media, in the Trayvon Martin fiasco. Regarding housecats....Was it a fair fight? How many cats? That's a lot of killing for one cat. Did the birds fly over the cats yard space? Were the chipmunks chitting while chompping the housecats cement foundation?
This is serious. There is a narrative that is being pushed in that article and it seems they are trying to further divide good citizens: indoor cat people vs. outdoor, dog vs. cat. Just saying... Our cats kill things every day: insects, birds, lizards, mice, snakes, and birds.
Does anyone worry about the mice killed by owls, or the insects killed by many other birds? What a lot of nonsense it is: exquisite Princess-and-the-Pea ethical sensitivity on display. How about the tens of thousands of birds killed by the giant blades of the wind farms for safer energy!!!!????
@JC: How about those tens of thousands (~250,000 actually) killed by those ghastly wind farms? A drop in the bucket compared to the estimated 2.6 BILLION birds killed in the US and Canada by cats annually. (Cats win, by a factor of 10,000).
@Texan99: I see you're willing to play Russian Roulette with outdoor cats and taxoplasma gondii. I'll pass. OK, how about the annual road kill by cars and trucks? Stop the people from driving?

But they protect us from hantavirus and bubonic plague. No rodents survive long among those four cold fish-eyed killers. They roam during the day, but we put them in the garage at night, lest they be eaten by coyotes in their turn.

I totally concur regarding outdoor cats: Princess-and-the-Pea sentiment (just another variety of virtue-signalling).
When we had cats, we originally let them roam but began keeping them inside more for their protection than that of the local wildlife. This started when we moved close to a park that is 90% natural woods, and there are predators in it — foxes, coyotes — that would make a meal of any cat. Our dogs have always been on a leash with one of us when out of the house. We let them roam only at fenced-in dog parks. Replied just to add — has everybody noticed how the National Geographic has joined the SJW/global warming/Leftist cause de jour propaganda team?
Smithsonian also went full blown wobbly a few years ago.

Agree on National Geo. So perverted now that nothing they publish can be believed right down to the address .
And Scientific American - which used to be so much fun to read, back in the early 70's. Now it is just a partisan rag, but has pretty pictures, except when they are 'teaching a moral lesson'.
Of course people think they know something about 'science' because they have an SA sitting on their table. They MIGHT know something about science/math if they have a Martin Gardner book on their table ;->

That reminds me of reading a National Geographic article on Argentina which stated that Argentines resented US support of the Videla et al 1976-83 Junta.
I was working in Argentina during that time. Argentines told me they liked that President Carter was denouncing the human rights abuses of the Junta. During this time the Junta was broadcasting that the US was" interfering" in Argentine affairs by denouncing human rights violations. While Reagan may have had a more realpolitik view of the Junta, his support of Great Britain during the Falklands War helped bring down the Junta. What National Geographic reported contradicted what I had observed.

NatGeo won't allow me to view the picture or article without entrusting personal info to them, so I'm unable to critique what's posted.
Many Brits think that Americans are cruel to confine cats indoors, and horribly cruel to 'de-claw' them. The usual misdirection in anti-outdoor cat articles includes one or more of the following: • the prior that all predation is bad • ascribing declining numbers of wildlife due that are clearly attributable to habitat loss to cat predation instead. • using predation data for feral along with pet cats, and presenting that as if pet cats are the problem • describing the predation data as "domestic cats" using that term as a descriptor for Felis catus, and hoping the reader thinks that by "domestic cats" they mean pet cats, and not ferals. • using data for Australia, where there is a very good case against cats and a big problem with extinctions of animals which are prey for cats. In the UK, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has a data-driven view that outdoor pet cats are fine, but ferals are bad: https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/advice/gardening-for-wildlife/animal-deterrents/cats-and-garden-birds/are-cats-causing-bird-declines/ "Many Brits think that Americans are cruel to confine cats indoors, and horribly cruel to 'de-claw' them."
Thank you, George Washington. If you didn't have cats keeping the bird population down, you would have problems like this:
https://youtu.be/hplpQt424Ls?t=16 We only had one outdoor cat. Don't think he ever ate any birds, in fact doves used to come and eat kibble out of his dry food bowl in the garage. But boy did he get rid of a lot of rats. He always proudly left the partially eaten remains by our kitchen door, so we had to be careful when we stepped out, especially in the morning. One of our previous cats liked the outdoors so we would put her harness on and tie it to the clothesline pole in the back yard. That cat would hide in the nearby garden and catch the occasional unwary bird. When we moved her to a little upstairs balcony, she would also manage to catch any bird rash enough to land there. One time, she even managed to bring her prey in past husband's gaze and deposit same in the dining room.
Current cat not the same. Do remember one morning when, while reading the morning paper, I was aroused by seeing Gypsy playing with a "toy" which was unusual for her. Realized quickly enough that 1) not a toy and 2) the mouse was still alive. Being a liberated woman, I immediately ran upstairs to wake my husband and demand he cope with the situation. He arrived downstairs to find Gypsy taking the mouse downstairs, presumably to let it loose into the crawl space for future play. Husband promptly interfered and dispatched the rodent with his slipper. There's a story at the Gateway Pundit (which is sometimes a little extreme) that the UHaul full of Antifa riot gear was rented by someone named Holly Zoller, who works at the Louisville Bail Initiative. Someone may have leaked the rental records from UHaul, then there's a phone call of someone asking her about the rental, representing themselves as a UHaul worker. Sounds like a little deception was involved, but anyway - She admits to driving the truck and parking it, on tape. And by the way, the initiative is at least partially underwritten by the Soros Project.
thegatewaypundit.com/2006/11/20-200-were-killed-during-anti-regime-cleric-boroujerdis-arrest/ So if this is taken at face value, then it would appear that the compassionate citizens who are making bail for the rioters are also the outfitter of choice. (Ben Stein voice)Anybody at the FBI here? Mueller? Mueller? URL correction:
thegatewaypundit.com/2020/09/u-haul-seen-distributing-shields-weapons-louisville-rioters-rented-holly-zoller-louisville-bail-project/ It is much deeper than that. Major corporations, common household names, fund these organizations. It’s an old game/extortion racket.
“Mighty nice brand name you have there, be a shame if something happened to it.” Don't overlook the Dems and all the wealthy donors, who embrace “moral grandiosity” to use Dalrymple’s term. Setting up shell operations to hide contributions to the overthrow of our Constitutional Republic has turned into big business. Make the network highly complicated, so law enforcement and the average citizen have difficulty tracking who is supporting what. Make these uprising appear spontaneous, born of instant frustration. Even The Daily Beast knows somethin's up when people come armed and dangerous:
"The liberal activists are planning for 'civil and political' unrest following the elections if Biden does not win in a landslide. According to the Daily Beast, their simulations have included scenarios where Trump's camp releases 'classified documents for political purposes, fueling manufactured rumors,' halting 'assets of individuals and groups the president determines to be a threat,' and 'restricting internet communications in the name of national security.'" https://freebeacon.com/2020-election/lefts-point-person-for-post-election-violence-prep-leads-coalition-housed-by-massive-dark-money-network/ That maybe, but many corporations are making donations in plain sight, whether it's a drop in the bucket, I couldn't say.
She and anyone involved in this (Lebron James, maybe), should be charged with conspiracy to riot and murder police. If the DA's would do their job this rioting would end.

“#4 Aggie on 2020-09-24 09:29 (Reply)” Aggie is right. If we consider the history of civilizations one has to wonder how many of them would have allowed allow an enemy and traitor like soros to benefit from the safety and comfort they offer while doing his worst to destroy them. Benevolence can go too far. It frequently does. To the detriment of the benevolent. There are a portion of things the ancients knew that we have forgotten at our own peril. There used to be a simple rule: traitors die. And the same goes for the whole bunch of leftoxenomorphs out there, many if not most of them, in his payroll. Because a leftoxenomorph is, by definition, a traitor working for the destruction of America and Western civilization that has gone so far in her transformation into something anti-American and anti-human that she can hardly be called or considered human any longer. And the FBI has turned traitorous and leftoxenomorph, infected, penetrated and gatekept by leftoxenomorphs and working against its own foundational principles and grossly violating the oath its members take. It should be dismantled and replaced and none of its former members need apply. “Is a Trump landslide impossible? Hold my beer!”
Our current problem is not as much re-electing Trump that will probably happen if there’s any normalcy to the elections and that is very much in doubt. Our most pressing problem is the possibility AND the will of enough people to dismantle the leftoxenomorph traitorous 5th column that has America in its deadly grip and that won’t go away, even if the attempt is made, in any way peacefully. After soros paid for barry hussein soetoro oputrid to occupy the WH for a while and enough Americans that should have known better because it wasn’t all that difficult, voted for the mongrel abomination crypto-pisslim America hater, it should have been the job of hitlary the arkancider to finish the job of establishing the conditions for the final transformation of the country into a leftoxenomorph ant-hill with the one-hive-mind part of a New World Order under a One World Government and a local leftoxenomorph nomenklatura. Everything was ready. It was so close that they could taste it. Their religion, the Baal social justice Moloch cult, would finally be transformed into the state religion, the Constitution trashed and a new and glorious communist paradise would arise to bathe the world with its red light like a beacon for humanity to collectivize. Everything is still in place. They own our educational system and are printing copies of themselves using our children as media and pure leftoxenomorphism as the message and operative system and paid for by our taxes. They own most of the culture. They own the Mostly Socialist Media. They have penetrated the Pentagon and are gatekeeping it as best as they can. Remember oputrid communist purge of the military? They are already ruling an important part of the country. They are laughing at our laws and judicial culture by the soros paid DAs and judges and even SCOTUS Justices, all of them leftoxenomorphs. They have managed to put pisslims in Congress that don’t feel any need to hide their spittle spraying hate for anything American and can’t wait to push for sharia law and pisslam. And the list goes on. They have almost already won. We have almost already lost. America is almost completely gone. Yes, societies can go crazy and commit suicide and it is much easier than most people think. And much faster. And the fact is that we haven’t even gotten the will to start fighting in any meaningful way. We are basically watching it all, unmoving and silent, letting them have a field day with zero opposition. So say Trump puts a more or less rightist Justice up there before the elections and whoever he appoints doesn’t turn around and betray us, once there. So say Trump is reelected, I think he will be, and then what? The so called “resistance” will go into flank speed, hysterical beyond measure, firing from all tubes. Not one of the leftoxenomorph anchors all around our culture will be moved one inch. The infection will continue to spread. These leftoxenomorphs are like alien ants. You can’t fight ants with an election. You can’t fight ants with laws and rules and decency and tolerance and benevolence and all the time careful and worried not to step on the sensitive toes of some mau mau of the “boo, hoo, my ancestors were slaves” persuasion. The ants don’t care for your rules. The ants laugh at you, in your face. The ants know your fears. The ants know how to turn your virtues into weapons to defeat you. You can’t fight ants unless you develop new rules for fighting ants. The old rules don’t work in this case. Look, I know, decent people have a tough time adapting to war conditions. And civil wars are the worst. War is nasty and it smells. In war you have to do things that you wouldn’t even mention in polite company. You may have to disembowel your neighbor’s son and watch how his mommy’s last night dinner spills on the ground. Too much? This has barely started. Decent people had better start thinking about the consequences of losing this war. Because if we do . . . you won’t like what’s coming . . . but it will be too late. This is not a fairy tale. And, no, 911 won’t do. YOU . . . are 911 now. Start organizing. Consider riots as Biden rallies (rallys?)
No, they really aren't. These "mostly peaceful protestors" don't like Biden any more than they like Trump, that's why they don't care that their violence acts as a free advertisement for Trump. They are Marxists dedicated to the destruction of America, capitalism, Western Civilization, and society itself. In short, these are dangerously insane savages and dismissing them as mere "Biden supporters" or even "Bernie supporters" is a gross mis-characterization of their real aims and a dangerous misunderstanding of their intent. They intend to kill you, and when your enemy tells you he intends to kill you, you better take him seriously. In re: Forbes article
My friends and I have resumed many of our normal drinking and dining habits. We all have memories of prior health crises when we had NEIGHBORS who died or lost family. Of course we currently all know some who have tested positive for COVID & so are in the "cases" count, and none of us believes this is not a virus to be dealt with. However, not one of us knows anyone who has died and only one who was seriously afflicted but survived. Many will say we're lucky and perhaps we are, but I suspect many in our generation are more skeptical due to such past experiences. Today's horror stories are legion but don't jibe with our lived experience. Maybe we're actually just embracing that recent standard that the only history that relevant is your personal "lived history"? My experience doesn't match the news either. Through second hand relationships I'm aware of 5 people who got the virus. All have recovered. About 6 people at work have got it out of 200 employees. All are back working. I don't know anyone personally who got the virus.
On the other hand, if you like amusement parks now is the time to go. I just got back from Branson and didn't have to wait in line for any ride. There's enough people that it doesn't feel empty, too. #6, this is why we're buying guns and ammo.
