Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Colorado Man Yelled ‘Black Lives Matter’ Before Stabbing A Stranger, Now Charged With A Hate Crime
Oh boy . . . . We have long had the cry Allahu Akbur before a fanatical attack, and now we have this. One wonders if there is much difference in either's psychological profile? Re: Protestors in D.C.
"It’s one thing for store owners to protect their businesses, as some have done during these riots: That’s a form of self defense, by people rooted in the community. It’s another for yahoos to jump into situations far beyond their ken or control." https://nypost.com/2020/08/27/vigilantism-like-rioting-violates-the-social-order/ What the rioters (I mean "protestors") are doing all over the country is challenging anyone to defy them. And Washington D.C. loves that. Washington believes that rioting cements the argument that only communism will provide the economic justice that women and minorities deserve. So the rioters are heroes, while adult white men who try to stop them are criminals. It's like Superman's Bizzaro World, where everything is upside down. That's why Washington constantly vilifies white men as "vigilantes". A vigilante is a stupid white person who doesn't understand the world well enough to take any kind of action. On government employees, like Cops, understand. So remember, white men are nerds; and black men are cool. Which side do you want to be on? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0241760/ "CNN and Twitter Target President Trump
and The Gateway Pundit – Won’t Allow Us to Share the Actual COVID-19 Numbers from the CDC Website that Don’t Fit Their Narrative":I despise, detest, and distrust CNN. Twitter, too. It seems that the Wuhan virus's risks have been grossly exaggerated: Surprahz, surprahz... ‘Compassion’ isn’t a fix for homelessness — it’s just virtue signaling." It's SO MUCH easier... NY is hemorrhaging cash — but de Blasio, Cuomo, unions refuse to face reality: Couldn't happen to nicer, smarter guys, but they aren't nicer or smarter. I lived in AZ for 5 years. 50 years ago. It wasn't nuts, then... The Left Is Racing to Get 'Woke' Enough, But Who Is in Charge of the Clattering Train?: Nobody. The Left claims "Not US!! No, no, no, no, NO!!!!1111!!!!! NBC News: Looting Proves Black America Deserves Reparations Or Something: Why I despise, detest, and distrust NBC. Democrats Blame Trump for Violence After Months of BLM and Antifa Riots: Of course they do. Liars, one and allllllll. CNN guest: It’s okay for protesters to gather in D.C. today during a pandemic because their cause is important: CNN lies, as do its "guests". Trump Slams "Do Nothing Democrat Mayor Of Portland" After Wheeler Blames President For Violence: Trump hasn't been anywhere near Portland. Team Biden notices that people don’t seem to like riots: A semblance of some intelligence, though not much. Colorado man yelled ‘Black Lives Matter’ before stabbing a stranger, now charged with a hate crime: A RIGHTEOUS Bust! We got spooked bad by China media's release of what they were doing to fight Covid. They sure ACTED like this was an extinction-level plague. Dems didn't take it seriously, Trump did - and I'm not going to fault him on it because by the data they had at the time they had to do a lot of stuff quickly before it DID catch fire here in the US like it apparently did in China. (And it did in NYC - but FFS it was stupid to put infected patients in nursing homes. Co-Morbidity Bingo there...)
Trouble is, a bureaucracy does not like to EVER admit they can be wrong, and the media is worse. Recall the few times Trump tried to say that this might not be so bad? Or that we could start reopening? The Dems and the media started SCREAMING that Trump wanted people to DIEEEEE! Makes me think he was the 'Covid Only' numbers and was going... "Maybe we overreacted'. IMO, YMMV and all that, the Dems saw this whole damned mess as a flippin' godsend. Get everyone locked down, KEEP the country locked down, crash the economy, make sure that everyone possible was dependent on government largess in the form of jacked up unemployment benefits, establish random-sendout mail-in voting because it wouldn't be 'safe' to go vote in person, and win in November with the promise of 'Making Things Better'. They just had to keep the narrative going that COVID-19's a killer a bit longer, and they'd have won. But the 'Rona's burning itself out and the economy's doing a lot better than anyone would think at this point. CDC hasn't covered itself with glory here. The "It's a Covid death if the person died with Covid" reporting parameter caused a lot of ... um... 'enhancement' of the overall numbers. It'll likely be another year before it all shakes out and we'll knows just how far off we were - at which point it's not really going to matter. Confessions of a voter fraud: I was a master at fixing mail-in ballots
QUOTE: A top Democratic operative says voter fraud, especially with mail-in ballots, is no myth. And he knows this because he’s been doing it, on a grand scale, for decades. https://nypost.com/2020/08/29/political-insider-explains-voter-fraud-with-mail-in-ballots/ Re: NY Is Hemorrhaging Cash
QUOTE: ...Yet both Cuomo and de Blasio seem to want to keep the economy down, as they fantasize about a federal bailout — and, in the mayor’s case, borrowing billions and saddling future generations with debt... I think it is about more than hoping for a Federal bailout. New York contributes substantially to the US GDP. Depriving Trump's economy of New York's contribution would dramatically depress the growth rate. This is also about trying to hurt Trump's re-election chances. From the Way-Way-Wayback Machine (1975):
"PRESIDENT FORD TO NEW YORK CITY: DROP DEAD" "Brewing Mesopotamian beer brings a sip of this vibrant ancient drinking culture back to life"
Wait, that link doesn't go to the Babylon Bee? re: A Century Later, the Versailles Treaty Still Haunts Our World
That's a good analysis. We need to be reminded of that history, before we (America) try to fix every problem in the world. re: Brewing Mesopotamian beer brings a sip of this vibrant ancient drinking culture back to life
This is a fascinating article by Professor Tate Paulette! Well worth the time to read. Crikey, Bird Dog, so many interesting links today! So little time. re: Facts About Police Behavior Matter. The News Division of The Wall Street Journal Charged The Journal’s Opinion Staff With “Disregard of Evidence”... It Was News Which Was Guilty of That Charge
This is an important article, and it's interesting to read about the internal divisions in the WSJ. Even here in rural Vermont we are dealing with this issue. Yesterday the Vermont League of Cities and Towns (I'm on their board) released this statement: Perspectives on Police Reform. What to do about our current unrest? Instapundit has written recently about a theme that resonates with me: the difference between the Democratic National Convention (negative) and the Republican National Convention (positive); and how Trump is saving America from a race war. See this and this. Ann Althouse gets at the same theme in her thoughtful post yesterday about Biden's speech in Pittsburgh. The Republicans have a positive message about race. More people need to hear it. Perhaps one way to get the message out in a way that independent and Democratic voters will listen is to use the lessons of "Hamilton." Versailles Treaty
In 1999, AP decided to do a most important event of the 20th century. Easy, I decided. World War I. But, no. People with more letters than mine after a degree decided the Hiroshima bomb as most important. Well, if not for WWI, there would not have been a Hiroshima bomb. Nor a world-war in 1939. Versailles was a true account of winners decide who gets what. Interesting to speculate: What would have happened in the Middle East had there been no Versailles line-drawing on maps of sand? Tribal warfare, tribal trade, a continuation of 16th century, 15th century lives. |
