Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re quantum paradox - Dylan observed this over 50 years ago in the ballad of a thin man...
You raise up your head and you ask, "Is this where it is?" And somebody points to you and says, "It's his" And you say, "What's mine?" and somebody else says, "Well, what is?" And you say, "Oh my God, am I here all alone?" But something is happening and you don't know what it is Do you, Mr. Jones? Makes as much sense as the first half of the article. (I was about halfway through it when I realized I was being jerked around.)
Allowing any further expansion of mail-in voting will be the beginning of the end. Democrats are already loudly laying the ground work to deligitimize the election if they lose (like they try to deligitimize everything they don't like). And I wouldn't recognize the legitimacy of mail-in in my state. USPS union would be a big ballot harvesting service for the Democrats they endorsed.
Without legitimacy, we don't have a Republic. New York City isn't the only metropolitan area that will struggle to come back. Any city that prides itself on its cultural base and urbanity is watching that base be eroded away like a sand castle.
First, the pandemic has decimated foot traffic for cultural events and commerce. Second, the fomented violence over the past 2½ months, while mostly limited geographically, has residents terrified and potential visitors avoiding entire city destinations. Good job, media. Third, city officials, mayors and city councils, are doing their very best to pander-promise to a non-voting violent minority, and to squander the very treasures they took an oath to protect. But the oath is to other people, the constituents - they're being told to shut up and wear their mask, under force of law. No sane person would put up with it, as the Great Egress numbers show. The cities are starting to look eerily like William Gibsons' Jackpot. Except that instead of climate change as the driver, the destruction is brought about by a different human dynamic: a pandemic-by-COVID, and then a pandemic of social pandering, a liquidation of the civilization trust. There's just no reason to stay, and every living reason to leave. re Experts weigh in on how to save New York City post-coronavirus
New York City is dead forever Will New York Come Back? My question is, what is the status of the boroughs? Are they in the same boat as Manhattan? Have they had the destruction and talent flight that has occurred in Manhattan? Just got back from a few weeks in Queens (woodside) & can report the neighborhood is still lively — not as before but gratifyingly lively. People & families live here for generations. They don’t have the money to leave & they have no desire to leave their hometowns.
Violence hasn’t made it there yet - not enough GUCCI stores. re What Is The Cause Of The Recent Power Blackouts In California?
It all comes as a surprise and a mystery to Governor Nuisance. Quite frankly I am surprised he didn't lay the blame on Global Warming and tell Californians to live with it because it was the new normal. QUOTE: California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday ordered an investigation into the blackouts and signed an emergency proclamation seeking to free up excess energy capacity. “These blackouts, which occurred without prior warning or enough time for preparation, are unacceptable and unbefitting of the nation’s largest and most innovative state,” Newsom wrote in an emergency proclamation. “This cannot stand." https://www.foxbusiness.com/energy/california-heat-wave-rolling-blackout-power-outages-hot-weather-newsom-probe-utilities "What's the cause of the blackouts?"
The answer is getting obvious now, but by 2045 - when 100% of California's electricity is slated to be provided by renewables - by then, the answer will be unavoidable. The cause of the blackouts is that it's nighttime, and the wind isn't blowing. Heh.
‘Gaps’ in renewable energy led to blackouts for millions of Californians, Gov Newsom says QUOTE: California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that the state’s transition away from fossil fuels and reliance on renewable energy was a contributing factor to the state’s rolling blackouts. The elimination of fossil fuel products as a major form of energy production and the shift to solar power and other forms of green energy has led to what Newsom called “gaps” in the energy grid’s reliability, the Democratic governor said during a press conference Monday. https://www.bizpacreview.com/2020/08/18/gaps-in-renewable-energy-led-to-blackouts-for-millions-of-californians-gov-newsom-says-961556 The article on quantum mechanics begins by being imprecise or, worse, mistaken. Particles do not occupy more than one location at once, before the observer 'collapses' the wave vector. Before the intervention of the observer, the particles are potential rather than actual-as Bohr said, they are not real and as Heisenberg put it, their 'existence' lies somewhere between possibility and actuality.
It is also mistaken to claim in the headline that this somehow makes shaky the foundations of reality. Reality is doing just fine, thank you very much-what is shaky is human perception and understanding of it, something which one would think might induce a certain degree of humility among modern scientists, something which the greats like the aforementioned Bohr and Heisenberg, not to mention Einstein, Planck, Schrodinger and their colleagues did not lack. Re: New York City is Dead
"Before COVID-19 we had a housing affordability crisis because of 50-plus years of government regulation that made it unprofitable to build affordable apartments." The above statement reveals the true problem with government. They manufacture problems, so that they'll have something to do. There is no such thing as a "housing affordability crisis". And there is no such thing as a "Corvette affordability crisis" or a "Caviar affordability crisis". If something is too expensive for your personal budget, then you don't buy it. It's not a crisis. Cities like New York, and Phoenix, and San Francisco who promise to build low-rent apartments for politically-qualified applicants are breaking the law. Nobody qualifies for a subsidized apartment. Through HUD, we've got millions of black people who get a free apartment right now. Those people make a lifestyle out of freeloading. So the correct response to the housing situation is to advise people to move to less expensive areas. The only real crisis is the over-taxation of people to pay for pie in the sky projects which were never approved by the taxpayer. Black people aren’t the only ones freeloading off the system.
The USPS isn't the problem. There's no system in place to create, distribute, receive, verify and count the number of maili-in votes that a national all-mail election would entail. It's not likely that such a system could be developed in a matter of a few weeks.
As evidence, there's the next generation air-traffic control system. Begun in 2003, that system still has not been implemented. Absent this, the city dies, period.

Democrat Convention Speaker Ashley Nicole McCray Advocates For the “Destruction of Capitalism” (VIDEO): So TOTALLY believable. The Democratic National Convention was brutally mocked online on Monday night during the event’s opening night as many commentators panned it as boring, cringeworthy, and obscene. AGAIN, TOTALLY believable. Democratic Convention. Why did the author of the piece consider readers so dumb that he found it necessary to show screen grabs of the same thing he just quoted? Maybe political writing is now the same as "reality" TV, in which after a commercial break viewers undergo an unspoken "In case you forgot what was shown two minutes ago, we are showing it again."

My antiviral program reports that the website at http://stuartschneiderman.blogspot.com/2020/08/will-new-york-come-back.html tried to infect my machine. I get that too, but it's innocuous, there's no virus. Don't know why it's triggering my Antivirus, which up to now I thought was politically neutral.

At the core of a big city machine is extortion and racketeering. Sure most payers are small businesses, but very big and powerful players ante up as well, albeit with more finesse. I'm wondering what the people who have been paying big bucks in protection money will do, given that the pols they paid off failed and, more often than not, those same pols actually enabled or abetted the destructive rioting and looting. They may be credentialed, but today's politicians are dopes, who have no appreciation of the old survival imperative, don't kill the golden goose. This ain't your father's Machine, these pols are not shrewd or canny, they have no ability to facedown a crisis; their primary skill sets are smarmy self aggrandizement, parroting fatuous oppression narratives and histrionic blame games.
What happens to the monolithic party when the money pot dries up? You got a nice little store there. Be a shame if it got looted.
