Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Catch and Release... Minnesota Democrat Running For State House Asks Crowd If ‘We Give A F**k About Burning’ Town Down
QUOTE: “We coming. We coming for everything that you motherfuckers took from us. We coming for them [congressional] seats, we coming for the money you owe us. This whole goddamn state burned down for 20 goddamn dollars, you think we give a fuck about burning Hugo down?” he asked. https://dailycaller.com/2020/08/16/minnesota-democrat-john-thompson-burn-town-down/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=454&v=GsEeYFDlKXc&feature=emb_logo It is past time for Trump to declare that Antifa and BLM are terrorist organizations and crack down on them and their funding.
I think that if they do declare them to be a terrorist group that this opens up the prosecution of all of those who were identified in the rioting, looting and assault but were not charged by the various cities and states. I think you are right One Guy.
This is a Democratic Party candidate for office, spewing this incendiary rhetoric. To my knowledge, NOT ONE Dem party office holder, hack, or apparatchik has criticized him. Perhaps they are afraid of being branded racists if they do? It leads one to wonder if candidates like him are the future of the Democratic Party? Is BLM a hate group or a terrorist group?
Without question, YES! (For you proggies, Lefties and Lib-tards, that means BOTH!) Stockman Conviction a Roadmap for Biden/Harris to Jail Conservative Activists
QUOTE: Former Congressman Steve Stockman, whom leftwing Salon called a “Tea Party darling,” has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear his appeal from a 10-year criminal sentence on multiple counts involving raising money from just two GOP donors. He was a Congressional whistleblower on Obama administration corruption, with such actions as calling for the House Select Committee to investigate the government’s handling of the Benghazi… exposing President Obama’s payment to the Haqqani terrorist network in exchange for the release of Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl, and revealing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s violation of the Iran sanctions to allow the sale to Iran of specialized steel used in nuclear weaponry. Stockman was visited by the FBI within a few days after calling for the arrest of the notorious anti-Tea Party IRS official, Lois Lerner, who was abusing nonprofit tax law to silence conservatives, and acting in contempt of Congress. Those very nonprofit tax issues abused by Lerner would later be corrupted as a way to prosecute Stockman. The judge in Stockman’s trial even refused to let Stockman’s defense mention the name “Lois Lerner.” The Department of Justice empaneled three grand juries to indict Steve, including one out of the Baltimore office run by Spygate figure Rod Rosenstein, but all three failed to indict. A fourth grand jury, after the government took ample “batting practice,” finally did indict. https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/08/stockman_conviction_a_roadmap_for_bidenharris_to_jail_conservative_activists.html Truly repugnant.
I looked at ABC and CNN news sites, searched his name, guess what? Nothing. On CNN, under the search for John Thompson was how to watch the Democrat Convention. Should we play the what if a Republican had done this game? You are so right B. Hammer. It is repugnant.
The Deep State is out of control. The GOP clearly does not know how to do "Congressional oversight." I am sure process is highly complicated and laborious and would cut greatly into their spare time. Instead we get the Congressional Hearings, where Congressmen can thump their chests and un-fireable Deep Staters are summoned to lie and mislead them. When the news cycle ends it all goes down the memory hole and we revert to the status quo. Nothing happens. The Deep State answers to no one, and no one can be bothered to fix it. Dems are cool with that. One wonders what it will eventually metastasize into? It's like a metaphorical warehouse full of abandoned ammonium nitrate. The left seems completely lacking in self-awareness....but i fear even that gives too much credit.
The "Broken windows theory" is not longer a theory.
We see it happening in Democrat controlled cities right now. Why do you keep connecting to mccarthy? Ever since he advocated for u.sa attorney fitzpatrick, he has been on the wrong side of the fence. Move on and let him make his excuses/alibis for the corrupt dems.
The reason that the U.S. doesn't use the metric system is because a Senator was asked by a large business to delay the implementation of the metric system because the change over would cost them too much money. Presumably the Senator also got a nice pile of cash for this favor. And THAT is the only reason we didn't convert.
Actually, that's effect, not cause.
At it's heart it's literally a nuts and bolts issue. People think about measurements as how far it is to grandma's house or how much does a sack of flour weigh. A complete switch to the Metric system would encompass those things, but also extend as far as screw threads, plumbing fixtures, hydraulic pressure gages, and even air traffic control (still feet for altitude and nautical miles for distance). You have to build a new infrastructure while maintaining an entire incompatible legacy structure. The time to have made the switch would have been around the 1860s, but that train has left the station (and railroad gages are still based on English measurements). No! That was the cause. We had already converted highway signs to metric. We had been teaching it school for years. There was a actual conversion date just a year into the future. Until this congressman stopped it. Had he not stopped it we would be full metric today. Simple as that.
What I would suggest is that we do it by presidential decree. Do it and be done with it. When I renovated my bathroom in the UK the existing plumbing was old imperial 1/2-inch copper. I had to join it with new 15mm. Guess what? They are exactly the same! 1/2" was the inside-diameter of the old pipe, and the specification for 15mm is of the outside diameter -- the grade of copper, thickness of the copper pipe wall, size of fittings, flow rate, all are exactly the same.
Likewise, I couldn't go to the 'timberyard' and ask for a 2x4, but they were happy to sell me planed-4-sides "Studwork CLS Timber - 38 X 89 X 2400 Mm, which happpened to be the same size as the existing imperial 2x4 in the walls, which are the same size as US 'nominal' 2x4 studs, i.e.: about 1.5 x 3.5 inches. In the UK, the sheetrock/drywall/plasterboard is most often used as a replacement for lath and still plastered over, but the sheets don't come as 4' x '8' anymore, instead they are 'nominally' 1.2M x 2.4M, and come in common thicknesses of 12.5mm, or 9.5mm for the thin stuff, and by golly those sure look like half-inch or three-eighths to me. Actual dimensions on my American tape measure were 4' x 8' x 1/2", but perhaps the dimensions of the tape changed when crossing the Atlantic or something. Let me tell you, this took quite some getting used to! Every so often I was surprised, for example I measured the 22mm plywood and it really was 22mm in thickness, not 3/4". But then after moving back to the USA, I've found that most supposedly 3/4" plywood, MDF, and OSB is also 22mm actual in the USA too! Violence in these "protests" will continue to increase until there are runninmg gun battles in the streets. These people are unhinged.
The democrats have been saying that it was lack of leadership that caused the pandemic to be so bad. So Biden stepped up and showed what leadership in fighting covid looks like; everyone wear masks all the time even outside indefinitely. Even at home alone and during zoom meetings. Do you get it yet? They are using covid against you, they are forcing you to wear masks for political reasons and it has nothing to do with protecting you from covid. This is what Biden thinks leadership on covid is.
The whole leadership issue is based on two faulty premises: that the American people need to be led, and that the President is that leader.
The president's job is to run the Federal Government, not the country. That Democrats do not distinguish between the country and the government should be a condemnation. Should be - but isn't, as far as they're concerned.
They see themselves as the ultimate HOA - able to set rules that all the occupants of the country MUST obey without hesitation. There's nothing wrong with that, as far as they're concerned. THEY decide how high you'll jump - and you'd damn well better jump on cue. All those stories you hear about onerous HOA regulations? They're just a warmup for the Dems. Canceling Flannery O'Connor: "She's DEAD, Jim! Give it up."

Top Democrats Join Iranian Regime in Condemning Historic Peace Deal Between Israel and UAE: Why am I NOT surprised... Heh, heh, heh, "O’Donnell surveys O’Connor’s two novels, numerous short stories and essays, and voluminous correspondence (most of which was published following her untimely death aged 39 of complications from lupus) and concludes that O’Connor was “a walking contradiction when it came to matters of race.” "
Looks like somebody is running out of statues to topple. The simple reason that the postal service is losing money is that they pay too much in salaries. Publish the salary of each position in the postal service and you will have public outrage.
Top Democrats Join Iranian Regime in Condemning Historic Peace Deal Between Israel and UAE
I just read an article on Lew Rockwell which attempts to put the Arab world into perspective. https://www.lewrockwell.com/2020/08/no_author/lebanon-should-look-east-and-abandon-the-west/ I'm afraid that everyone is missing the boat on this deal. The issue is not just Israel or Lebanon. It's also a question of domain. The Chinese claim to be outside the control of U.S. hegemony in the middle east. That's not possible for the simple reason that China is aggressively trying to expand into several areas, all at the same time. Africa, South America, the Middle East; China has big plans to build a total surveillance state which covers the whole world. And they have enough people to make that happen. Behind this plan is a simple fact: the Chinese hate Western societies which focus on the individual. So for all these reasons, there can't be a new Silk Road, or new dams in Africa, or a Palestinian State. The only possible solution to the risk of a global communist takeover is to send China back to the year 1900. No electricity, or internet, or phones. After they recover from the ravages of Mao Tse Tung, they can try again to build a country for a hundred million Chinese people. Taiwan and Tibet aren't part of China anyway. Re: The Imperial Measurement System
America uses the imperial system of measurement for the same reason that we speak English. The imperial system developed over hundreds of years, and was associated with the products manufactured by each country. So kids learn that Africa had its own system of weights and measures which were related to the lifestyle of those people. In other words, to study the history of "measurement" is also to study the history of cultural and economic development. That's why kids in high school who study history should learn at least a few different measurement systems which have been used in the past. That will give them a much better understanding of the world economy. How many coconuts to the bushel? How many Roman feet to the mile? Our imperial system is full of quaint stories about a "pinch" of salt, a "peck" of potatoes, and a "gallon" of ale. The words used in imperial measurement are not just measuring terms. They are also cultural and historical reference points, which allow people to better understand historical conditions. The reason that communists want to eliminate the imperial measurement system is to remove humans from history. A bushel means something. A meter does not. The metric system is an attempt to replace "human history" with no "history." https://www.google.com/books/edition/_/V3sXAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&pg=PA152 So if America wants to do the world a favor, it will make the metric system illegal; on a global scale. Throw those artificial centimetres in the trash can, where they belong. And then start teaching the kids in each country the real history of human measurements. That's something they can be proud of. The US is the only major country not using the metric system.
The US is the only country that has put a man on the moon. There is a 'funny' irony there. One of the NASA flights was a failure because one or some of the scientists were using metric and did not convert their results to feet and as a result the mission failed.
Roy,
The next man on the moon will be put there by Elon Musk, born, raised and educated in South Africa, Waterkloop House Preparatory School, Pretoria Boys High and Pretoria University all of which I attended about 30 years before his time there! I predict that within ten years he will be the richest man in the world. John Ferris. I used the imperial measurement system for more that twenty years growing up in South Africa untill it changed to the Metric System.
The advantages are really worth while looking into. An example is , If a particular crop requires half an inch of water per day how many gallons are required to irrigate an acre? Or the same question " metricated" A crop requires 12 mm of water per day how many cubic meters are required to irrigate a hectare. The answer to the question in the second metricated version can be given almost instantaneously but the first one is far more difficult. There are thousands of simply examples like this that crop up every day and the US would do itself a favor switching to the metric system if if it takes several years to do so. |
