Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Biden's first choice.
Stacey Abrams didn't completely lose out. She can still be Governor of Georgia. Harris wasn't Biden's first choice.
Biden had/made a choice? HAHAHAHAHAHA! Biden's Staff Gave Him A Script So He'd Know He Was Calling Kamala
https://thefederalist.com/2020/08/11/bidens-staff-gave-him-a-script-so-hed-know-why-he-was-calling-kamala-harris/ I guess we can add printing to the list of industries demolished in 2020. Normally this far out from an election, we'd be seeing dozens of signs sprouting at intersections and along roadways. To date, hardly any national level signage, maybe 10 for Trump, and, for the first time yesterday, I saw a Biden sign. By now, normally there would be people standing at intersections holding signs including "Honk for _", at least on weekends. Not seeing that either.
I think this is a hoot.
Publishers Fret Over Obama’s ‘Failure to Perform’ 0bama has been given $65 million to write a book. His book is two years overdue and no one thinks he is even working on it. What if 0bama stiffs the publisher by never writing a book and keeps the 65 million? Would they dare come after him? My thinking is there would be a lot of bad press resulting in suing The First Black President. Why . . . in today's climate it might even be RACIST to do so! My guess is that 0bama knows this and knows he is in the clear. https://spectator.org/obama-book-deal-failure-to-perform/ Maybe Billy Boy demanded too much money for Obama's taste. After all, doesn't Billy Boy already have enough money?
Another reason I have seen for the delay is that there has been disagreement between Obama and the ghostwriter over what to include and not include, necessitating interminable rewrites. I have always suspected the $65 million is a disguised payment from the Iranians for services rendered. He's never writing that book, nor was it ever expected he would.
"Entirely apart from this administration’s unique incompetence and Orwellian denial of facts, while its handling of the pandemic may wind up as a political failure for them, every piece of the crises’ exacerbation came directly out of the right’s playbook of the past four decades."
I object to the author's inappropriate use of the word 'useful' in reference to himself. Nothing's worse then a rich bourgeoisie hypocrite bemoaning his own success while condemning its vehicle, safely isolated from the object of his scornful critique. Instead of writing, why not do something about it? Something useful. Then write about that. There isn't really anything that could have been done to change the outcome of this pandemic. Perhaps If Gov. Cuomo hadn't sent sick people to the nursing homes that some of those deaths could have been prevented. But more likely the disease would have come into the nursing homes anyway from staff or visitors and once in that environment all those who were susceptible to it would have died from it.
I doubt that even an earlier or more restrictive shutdown on our borders would have prevented it. But even there Trump shut down the borders against all naysayers who were still advocating public get togethers. And it may not be constitutional for Trump to prevent the "citizens" from re-entering the country. This is a case of too much immigration and these new "citizens" spending most of their time in their home country and only coming back for the safer and better health care. The masks and social distancing is a joke. It is mostly something to make it appear that 'we' are doing something to stop the spread. But yet it spreads even to those who wear masks! No one has any 'good' ideas on how to deal with this illness. I doubt that there are any 'good' ideas to deal with it. The various shutdown rules have devastated the economy and trying to react to that has skyrocketed our national debt. When the chickens come home to roost on that issue it will be a second wave of fiscal disaster. The best thing we could have done was nothing. If we had in fact treated this like the yearly flu it would have mostly run it's course by now. Bringing manufacturing home: article has thoughtful comments.
I'm not defending the onerous aspects to regulation or the excesses of unionism, but bear in mind that the skimming globalists went abroad to dodge fair labor practices and environmental regulations. If it is all so cool, why is it necessary to deflect and deceive the consumer as to the origin of many consumer products? Has anyone ever seen "Proudly made in China" as a marketing gimmick? "When asked by a Twitter user how he would change the Constitution to make it 'non-racist,' Kotsko replied, 'Abolish state autonomy, the Senate, and the EC. Add an affirmative unconditional right to vote for all citizens. Abolish local control and funding of schools.'"
Turn a country nearly 10 million sq km in area with 330 million people in 50 states into a unitary state like Andorra or San Marino? Yeah, that'll work. Abolish state autonomy, the Senate, and the EC.
While we're at it, we could annex Peru, force Canada to change their national anthem, and move the capital of France to London. Does this guy not realize that it was the states that created the federal government and the federal government has no authority to abolish the states? That the purpose of the Senate and the Electoral College is to leave the states with some check on federal power and that each state is equally sovereign with every other state? This annoying crap that the Senate isn't democratic because big states don't have more votes than small states is as stupid as arguing that it's not fair that a 300-pound man's vote counts the same as a 100-pound man's vote. You're darn right it's not democratic - because we aren't a democracy. Our Founding Fathers rightly feared democracy as nothing more than mob rule and the tyranny of the majority - which point is amply made by this jackass of a professor. Portland District Attorney Mike Schmidt to Limit Criminal Charges Against Protesters.
Don't have to wait long for some Portland muckety-muck to blame Trump for the damage in Portland. District Attorney Mike Schmidt to Limit Criminal Charges Against Protesters: That's how you get more, More, MORE "protesters".
With any luck, they'll turn on you! Seattle Police Chief to resign and the Mayor has “a heavy heart”. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeee she does. MSNBC: Trump Is ‘Defunding’ Police By Not Bailing Out States And Cities… Trump: You BROKE it, you OWN it. The STUPID is STRONG in these ones. College-Educated Professionals Are Capitalism’s Useful Idiots: The STUPID is STRONG at The ATLANTIC. Obama Is Wrong About the Filibuster; Just stop after "Wrong". Report: Harris Wasn't Biden's First Choice: First choice got lucky. The Lincoln Project—or the McClellan Project? The Never-Trumpers: The STUPID is STRONG in these ones. The stunning amount of money that the first female black police chief of Seattle will collect after having her pay cut and being forced to work under racist and sexist conditions.....actually warms my heart.
College educated professionals blah blah blah...this guy can't see the forest for the trees. First, when they opened up and changed the immigration rules in the 60's we were guaranteed to be inundated with poorly educated and culturally incompatible immigrants that had little respect for laws much less Constitutional law or the predominate Christian religious beliefs. The second problem was that the educated academy promoted free trade rather than fair trade. With free trade the dominate political posture it didn't matter what union or non union workers wanted. You could be replaced by a cheap immigrant or your job could be moved off shore. The Atlantic writer seems incapable of understanding either issue and has the resultant TDS while blaming Trump for 60 years of uniparty rule. And continues to blame Trump for the ingrained fossils like Fauci that have been on the growing government teat their entire lives. Progressives do not understand the problem and without that there is no solution. The Atlantic should be put down while it still has a modicum of dignity rather than watch it descend into the pitiless pit of the NYT or WP.
That Atlantic article, sheesh: "Modern liberals prided ourselves on entertaining all sorts of disparate policy ideas for improving the world, whereas the economic right really has one big, simple idea: Do everything possible and anything necessary to let the rich stay rich and get richer, and big business to stay big and powerful and get more so." What a maroon.
Portland District Attorney Mike Schmidt to Limit Criminal Charges Against Protesters
Of course he is, and it's shocking that protestors should have been arrested in the first place - you have a Constitutional right to protest. On the other hand, rioters and looters and vandals, certainly should be arrested and charged - the moment you pick up a brick or trespass on private property, well, you're not a protestor any more, you're a criminal. I'm just curious as to how many protestors aren't going to be charged, how many people were accidentally or mistakenly arrested by the Portland Police who weren't doing anything wrong? I'm gonna go ahead and guess not very damn many - the people that were arrested weren't protestors, they were rioters. Harris is a good fund raiser in the Indian tech circles; which have been pinched by Trump's squeeze (or at least talk of a squeeze) on those visas they use to build their corporate power bases. Funds and algo manipulation. Remember Indian is divided and Trump is with Modi, but many Indians here in the US are not. Will we here about Indian election manipulation?
Warren is an Operation Push replay; Adams thinks Walgreens cares about looting. The Dems want money up front; the Clinton Foundation Plan. The Title IX rule defines sexual harassment. Among other changes adopted by the Education Department, it allows schools shift the threshold that officials use to decide if a claim requires a response, from the "preponderance of evidence" standard set under the Obama administration to a "clear and convincing evidence" standard, which is a higher bar to prove claims of misconduct. DeVos has argued that the rule is necessary to set out a clearer process for responding to claims of sexual misconduct and for protecting the due process rights of the accused.
Due process rights of the accused? They must be joking. A girl can file rape charges, have a man sent to prison, and then recant the story without any punishment. Girls lie and exaggerate all the time. But they don't get charged with perjury. Or sexual assault. Why? Because females have political immunity. Look at this: https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/covina-west-covina-teachers-beach-trips-charges-drop/95764/ A drunk orgy at the beach with the students? Well, that's OK. |
