We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Anecdotal but worth mentioning: A family member ran an errand that took her down Illinois Rte 64 (North Avenue, if you are from Chicago). from Elmhurst to Glendale Heights, a little over 12 miles. She was quite unnerved by all the vacant commercial properties. If it is this bad in the suburbs of DuPage county, what does it look like in Chicago. I have seen a stat that of the 4500 businesses that have been closed in the city, 2500 are permanent. Some cities/states have dug themselves a very deep hole.

I wouldn't bet against three things

1) If it didn't happen on their doorstep Democrat voters will rationalize reports of looting and violence as 'Faux News' exaggerating things.

2) Even if directly aware of it, Democrat voters will excuse the people responsible for the violence as justifiably angry, especially if they are non-white.

3) Democrat voters will ultimately excuse Democrat elected officials responsible for keeping public order because the violence must have resulted from 'outside agitators'.

Actually, it's kinda weird. The attackers must not have gotten the memo, this attack was on the enclave of professionals and the wealthiest of Chicago. Their usual target is middle working America and the poor.

New York, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and the list goes on.

It's a little hard to believe that voters of any stripe would continue to vote themselves direct harm. And yet, media bias aside, the proof is there for all to see. For the residents of these beleaguered cities, they drive by the charred proof every day, if they care to, just down past all the homeless tents and riot debris.

And yet they continue to steadfastly vote for more of it, listening to their mayors and governors attempting to blame it on people who are not there and are not giving instruction.

Hard to believe, all right. But that's the beauty of the Federalist system. All politics are local. You get to eat your own cooking.

After the past 4 years up to the present, I have finally reached the brilliant conclusion that listening to, or seeing anything these far left progressives do is akin to giving credence to the mutterings, screeches and babble of delusional inmates occupying what we used to call insane asylums.

You can't reason with them - make sense of them - or live with them. Time for the states that still retain their sanity to come together and secede.

Yes. When we lived in the UK, we were always amused by the prospect of a national firefighter strike - and even more so because it would mean the British prime minister would have to get involved.

Meanwhile, here in Canada and in your country (both federal systems), a fire department labour dispute is at worst a worry for the mayor and the fire chief!

Someone should tell Mr. Shih, the NASA diversity and inclusion guy/person/individual/whatever, that *Eskimo was picked up by whites from the Inuit enemies, who so styled the Inuit. Often, when an individual or organization is faced with something they cannot do (say, build rockets that work), they do something they can, like waste taxpayer money on academic diversity squishes.

We have been told that many of the rioters are from out of town.

So my question is, where do they eat and sleep? Where does the money come from? Yeah. I know it is supposed to be Soros, but he is not there personally handing out hundred dollar bills. So where is the money coming from locally? Are the rioters self-funding?

I am rather surprised they have kept the mayhem going this long.

One would also think they would be getting tired of this after so many weeks. One wonders if these rioters are rotated in and out of these places?

I assume that the Durham investigation will fall short of identifying all of the crimes and all of the criminals. I also assume that what little facts come from this investigation will be released to the public sometime after Nov 3rd and that of course no prosecutions or indictments will ever come from it. After all is said and done Mr. Durham will be able to say he did his best and AG Barr will be able to hold up his head and say "job well done" (Brownie). The letter of the law will be met and those who write history will spend a million words to contradict and disprove any facts that prove Obama and the Democrats committed treason. If Biden wins, which seems likely with voter fraud, this will all be buried and lied about until most Americans actually believe the Russian hoax was real and those in our government who committed treason were actually heros fighting the good fight for all of us. AND I believe this will all happen intentionally with the acquiesce of Republicans who will lose power in congress and yet still be free to use what little power they have left to become millionaires.

The current furor over the kids going back to school exposes all of the sub-text about the covid drama. Should they wear masks? Should they sit 6 feet apart? Should they go to school or take classes on-line? The claim is that they are trying to prevent the spread of covid but that doesn't seem to be true at all. It is mostly political. Everyone knows that if the kids aren't in school sitting six feet apart with masks on that they will be out hanging out with friends, no masks and wrestling or making out. So it isn't about the kids. The teachers don't want to be exposed to covid but wont the six feet and masks prevent that? Well we all know that is fake science and people get the virus in spite of masks and distancing. So why can't intelligent people make intelligent decisions and make an argument that is reasonable and follow through with a decision on this???

Two reasons:
1. Politics. This crisis is too good to waste. After all there is an election and and "idiot" to elect so that puppet masters can control the country for four years.
2. Ambulance chasers. Right now every member of congress is being lobbied by lawyers to NOT prevent liability lawsuits for anyone who gets covid. The lawyers are more excited than a boy peeking into the girls locker room. This could be bigger than the cigarette lawsuits. And everyone who owns a business or does anything that brings people together is at risk.
