Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Presidential Debates: I don't need more than one. I much prefer the format, tried by Mike Huckabee several elections ago, which was basically a very long interview, with questions and follow up challenges, allowing the candidate enough time to expand and justify his proposals. I think town halls are also more valuable than a debate, even if the questions are hostile or contrarian. Frankly, with rare exception, the gotcha questions asked by talking heads leave me cold. In any case, I think Trump would prevail in all these formats.
To me what would be novel and interesting would be to hear questions form the Centrists and the Middle, and not the hard core ideologues and activists, dominating media and academia. These are the ideas, positions, and questions that have been suppressed for decades now.
CHOP was chopped not long after they parked on the mayor's front lawn...
If I were the czar of History, my emphasis would be even more controversial. I wouldn't eliminate political/military events or social history but I would focus on technological innovations from controlling fire, or baking clay into pots, to GPS and wireless. These are the events that changed our lives in basic and profound ways. Example: before steam, electricity, vaccines and antibiotics, everyone's life pretty much sucked. Oh yeah, not to give political/military events short shrift, but the pace, distribution and adoption of innovations is impacted by the nature of the economy from which they emerge.

Here's another example of Gaslighting from the above referenced thread: "I just thought I'd drop in over at The Nation to see what was going on. I do that now and then, maybe once a week at most. That "Fascinate and Unnerve" business seemed more promising than the other headlines I saw. For example: "The Deaths of 150,000 Americans Are on Trump’s Hands/Trump and his lackeys are guilty of criminal negligence, if not far worse. Who will hold them accountable?" Such evil pot-stirring." I don't know who falls for this, the above highlighted article, other than faux intellectuals. Covid rules are theatre ... for the Covid Karens it is also performance art.
Tides foundation is the tip of the marxist spear. Dems and unions are a disaster for education ... vouchers now. re Illinois lawmaker proposes ban on history classes because they ‘lead to a racist society’
Not from The Bee. One wonders if this will gain traction and catch on? Quote from Police Chief Best:
“The events of this summer were initiated in a moment of grief and outrage over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers and so many other Black and Brown people suffering at the hands of injustice,” Best concluded. George Floyd was not murdered, and by continuing to promote this myth she is part of the problem. Screw her. The neighbors should stand back and let the mob have their way with her. re Suddenly Dems want to scrap presidential debates!
Of course they want to cancel the debates. What else can they do but keep senile old Joe in the basement until the election is over? QUESTION: What happens if Joe wins and he is unable to take the oath of office at his swearing in? I think that is a distinct possibility. Is taking the oath of office a requirement for taking the office or is it merely symbolic and ceremonial? It also occurs to me to wonder if they could create a virtual Joe for television appearances or is the technology not yet there to make him appear real enough? Yes, taking the Oath of Office is a constitutional requirement, along with being over 35, a natural born citizen, and receiving a majority of votes in either the Electoral College or poll of State House of Representative delegations.
Thanks Another Guy named Dan.
If he is barely cognizant, and can only repeat one word at a time, can they swear him in, in a private ceremony where no one but the prinicpals can see? well, they've got six months to tell him no pudding until you get it right.
LOL
Yes. That's true, but he may only be capable of remembering it for about 5 minutes. Heh. One wonders just how long they can keep him hidden from the public eye?

Methinks that the rich will continue to vote for Democrats. Feeding the alligator. Gaslighting: See IMDB, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036855/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
Illinois lawmaker proposes ban on history classes: They ‘lead to a racist society’: Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Yup. Uh huh! NY Times union calls for racial quotas in hiring and staffing, euphemistically called “equity”: Fire them all. NYC: New mayor needed, desperately. Seattle: Heroic Neighbors Defend Home of Seattle Police Chief From Rioters (Coming soon to a theater near you!) No More State Aid: Governors did it to themselves. They have to live with it. 02 Aug 2020 Today’s New Yorker of Color E. Tammy Kim, New Yorker, Racial Politics: Some people are NEVER satisfied. Suddenly Dems want to scrap presidential debates! Ha! As above, "Some people are NEVER satisfied." I am soooooooooooooooooo not bummed for them. Klaus Fuchs biography. Most of the Manhattan Project spies claimed they provided secrets to the Reds because they believed one country should not have all the bombs. Sharing nuclear weapons for peace. They did not understand, or want to understand, the system they helped perpetuate.
Re: Illinois lawmaker proposes ban on history classes because they ‘lead to a racist society’
He is against history because it would expose that the Republican Party was formed to counter slavery. It would expose that the Democratic Party was the party that went to war to preserve slavery; the party that instituted the KKK to terrorize blacks and Republicans; the party that fought every civil rights law; the party that instituted Jim Crow laws; the party that heaped praise ("the conscience of the Senate") and leadership positions for the senator who executed the longest filibuster on record to try to stop the '64 civil rights law and who was previously in the leadership of the KKK; and the party that continues to lie about it: https://democrats.org/who-we-are/our-history/ The Democrats certainly seemed to have forgotten about the 25th Amendment regarding a President's capabilities and capacities for handling the duties of office. Didn't they have about 5 or 6 runs at trying to evoke this for Trump?
I guess this would mean that whomever came in second in the current VP beauty & the beast contest would now become ascendant as the new VP. They take office, Pelosi rises (if the Dems keep the House, don't think that's exactly a given at this point) - and then has the Pres removed some way or another. (Thinking that there's going to be something 'useful' in their past that'd justify the removal.)
Pelosi becomes President. And the country is really, really screwed as she runs it like her own personal HOA, with grudges, insane restrictions, petty backbiting fueled by drunken rages... Heh. What could possibly go... right with her in office? Pelosi is third in line. If Biden is torpedoed with the 25th, his carefully-selected woman of color would become the P. And as I said, the runner up to the beauty contest would be likely appointed as the new VP. Imagine Pelosi being third-in-line between two women arguably as radical and clueless as AOC. She'd start to look pretty good to a lot of people.
Nixon/Agnew/Ford/Rockefeller.
Trump/Pence/SteveBannon/Tucker Carlson. Think about dat. Could happen. I would welcome it. |
