Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Manhattan Contrarian recently posted a suggestion to aid parents, kids, and teachers. Parents get together to "homeschool" ten kids. They hire a teacher that is paid $250/week for each kid. The teacher now teaches less than half the kids he used to for more than double the money. The parents get to go to work knowing their kids are actually learning something that they have some actual control over. The kids get an education and time with friends. It's a win win win. TFIFY
If kids aren't going to school for their quality education, why should any of us pay school taxes?
Agreed. That includes those who don't have kids in the school system.we all pay for educated kids.
Statistically 70% more or less of us are going to get covid-19. This will be true with or without masks, social distancing or quarantines. Quarantines work! But they simply slow the spread they don't stop it. You can quarantine for a year and catch Covid-19 on your first day out of quarantine. Shutting down businesses and schools will not prevent people from getting the virus. It may prevent/delay it for awhile. It may prevent in completely for one person while someone else takes his place in the 70% target. But statistically this virus will run it's course and only "disappear" once we develop herd immunity.
The real reason we have "over reacted" to this virus is politics. The Democrats saw this virus as an opportunity to destroy Trumps greatest achievement; a strong economy. They have succeeded, but in the process they had to sow seeds of fear. Now people are afraid to not wear masks and demand everyone wear masks. They are afraid of the gym and restaurants. And of course they are afraid of schools. This was necessary to accomplish the Democrat goals and it's just too bad if your business goes bankrupt or your children are not educated. There are bigger fish to fry, namely getting Trump out of office. Twitter censors Trump
QUOTE: On Monday night, as President Donald Trump began posting about the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 following a viral video of a doctor touting its ability to not only treat but prevent the disease, Twitter removed at least three of the president’s tweets, leaving no trace of what the president wrote on the social media platform. https://nationalfile.com/breaking-twitter-censors-trump-by-completely-removing-his-tweet-for-first-time/ How to bring New York City’s refugees back home: Sounds like a fool's idea. Only fools would want to go back. But then, if they want to go back, I will not stop them, because I can't.

Hey! Portland business owners you bought and paid for the broken lefty municipal government; NOW YOU OWN IT!.......absolutely no sympathy from us deplorables! Buwahahaha! I have some small sympathy for them because they believed in America, freedom and capitalism enough to start a business. However, they could have started that business in Texas, or N/NW Florida, or some other far more reliable environment.
Do you see them getting up in arms and taking their City Council and Mayor to task, or calling demonstrations in support of their apparently courageous Chief of Police? No we don't. Not on the major media - not on Twitter - not on Facebook. The people who have voted this plague on their town are the most docile of sheep. The question really is, where are the people who are not? The voting could not have been 100% Progressive.
You can decide you're not a sheep, and make sure your social circle ain't either. Think for yourself. Decide based on facts, not social influencing. Cast your vote. Not everybody. I didn't vote for our governor, but he's still there. I voted for Trump. But it didn't count because the state went to Hillary.
Much like gun sales: all those people are going to vote republican! Not necessarily. Yesterdays unsolicited seeds arriving in peoples mail is now up to about 2 dozen states. Almost like somebody is playing out another version of "release the covid" on the population. The Seditious Among Us
QUOTE: With the public backing of the industrial elites and not so veiled threats of uncontrollable street violence, Hitler successfully intimidated the cabinet and President Paul Von Hindenburg into appointing him as Chancellor prior to the March elections. Their acquiescence was predicated on the conviction that they could easily mollify Hitler by granting the Nazis a modicum of what they demanded and still retain control of the government. Within 6 months, utilizing violence and traitorous tactics the ruling class was too timorous to oppose, Hitler was effectively the dictator of Germany. Hitler was very aware of two factors that he could exploit to overturn the government and assume dictatorial power. The first, once violence was not firmly dealt with and tolerated then just the threat of violence would be sufficient to intimidate the ruling class. The second, was the inbred naiveté and egocentricity of the ruling class in believing that they, by their extraordinary powers of persuasion, could placate anyone or any movement and still maintain power. These lessons are not lost on the Marxists running amok in the United States today. https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/07/the_seditious_among_us_.html#.Xx_k_5QLZw4.twitter Zero reports of arrests.
Riot unpunished is riot approved. Re: California Cancels School
"Opposing the shutdown, the Center for American Liberty will sue the state on the grounds that its constitution promises children a basic education." First of all, a constitution is a piece of paper, not a person. It can't promise anything which the taxpayers couldn't afford. And the tax-payers of California never promised to educate Mexican children. But there's a much more serious issue: The California State Constitution legally requires a balanced budget. Right now, California has an illegal sixty billion dollar budget deficit. That means no more spending, until the outstanding debt has been eliminated. It's in the State Constitution. California teachers. In Mao's version of Red China, elevators had operators even after installation of floor choice buttons. Automatic elevator operators pushed buttons at a rider's request. Those operators were doing more work than some California teachers will do this year.
One I was a young child in the 40's and 50's every department store had an elevator operator. I knew a few and they were by today's standards mentally or otherwise limited. But they dressed up as required and did their job and received enough pay for it that they could rent a room and feed themselves.
As I understand it, elevators then still required a degree of human interaction to operate and control, something very apparent if you've ever had to go up to someone's apartment in an older Parisian building. It wasn't a high-skill occupation but running and monitoring an elevator in a busy office building or hotel did demand attention.
Those elevator operators were also trained to deal with elevator stoppages and to assist with fire drills as well. And of course, they had an important corporate function too - not unlike a Walmart greeter, but with a better uniform! So yes, as you note, a job that gave responsibility, dignity and a pay packet to someone who might otherwise have been on social welfare of some sort. |
