The media covered Obama administration officials ridiculing the suggestions of spying on the Trump campaign and of improper conduct with the Russia investigation."

Conservatives have still not gotten wise to a winning strategy. The Democrats learned a lot about cover-ups when they persecuted Nixon until he caved and resigned in disgrace. Not for the crime, but for the cover-up.

Similarly, pervasive throughout the charades of the FBI insurrectionists in the past 4 years, they used the stain of accused 'cover-up' to try to ensnare people associated with Trump into perjury traps. They were successful with some.

But in the big picture - with the Chosen One's last months in office, when illegal surveillance and the passing of confidential personal information of his opposition, back and forth - instead of covering this story up, they simply slowed down its release to the public. Closed door hearings for 4 years where the truth was told under oath and kept secret, and a different story was reeled out like a serial, chapter by chapter, in front of the cameras - the opposite and phony story, culminating with the sham impeachments.

Yes, the Democrats know that cover-ups are poison. Better to just throttle back and draw it out interminably, so the public loses interest. Easy to do when the media works for your cause. And the Republicans, once again, have let it happen and in some cases, played defense for the other team.

Trump knows all this, and I suspect is setting up for an election Hail Mary that a hostile media crowd will be unable to defer coverage for. We'll see if it works.
