Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"In 1520 smallpox ravaged the Americas and killed between 60 and 90 per cent of the continents’ original inhabitants."
There were multiple large population replacements since the original inhabitants were in America, and many localized replacements. The myth that American Indians were the original inhabitants, and not the descendants of brutal conquerors themselves, fuels the crackpot idea that Europeans were unique as the first and only conquerors in the Americas. It is also worth noting that while smallpox killed many Indians it actually killed more European immigrants in the U.S. Smallpox was an equal opportunity killer.
Regarding the LA teacher's union. LA should make all schools charter schools. Let the teachers decide to work or not.
2020 also has darkness. The intellectual vapidity of the cancel culture and blm is grotesque. We are actively throwing away thousands of years of knowledge. Wisdom does not come cheap. The greatest form of government, We the People, is being thrown in to the dust bin because someone enslaved some people. Gee, that never happened anywhere else ever. The thousands of noble ingenuities, the millions of good deeds, that was America, get canceled because we need to try marxist communism the correct way. The wisdom that show the evils and outright lies ingrown in the marxist philosophy, are glossed over and purged from the intellectual pursuit. The atrocities of the Kings rule, of marxisism, numerous as they are, are shredded and burned. Never allowed to see the light of day. The sins of the West are amplified and invented. Students are trained not to question, but only follow and parrot the hyper vapidity of their marxist professor, least they be canceled. They follow along chanting the slogan of the hour, never more than ten syllables in length, unaware that they are heading to a darkness that the West long ago began escaping. They throw away the truths of all men are created equal, endowed with unalienable rights, back to the slavery of the past, where small groups of individuals rained supreme. 536 may have had the sun obscured, do to a volcanic eruption, it may have been dark, but society as a whole was still moving forward. 2020 is rapidly moving backwards. Canceled, because of reasons.
re 536 AD — the worst year in history - Scholars and researchers agree on the year that was worse than any other
pBS had a series called Secrets of the Dead that did an episode on this. They dated the year 535 and attributed it all to Krakatoa blowing up in Indonesia, with the resulting global cooling bring about famine, plague, historic human migrations, and the destruction of empires. They ultimately speculated the birth of Islam came as a result of the falling dominoes caused by the volcanic catastrophe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unBlJsFG0Uw 53 minute video. Alaskan volcano linked to mysterious period with extreme climate in ancient Rome
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/07/13/alaskan-volcano-linked-to-mysterious-period-with-extreme-climate-in-ancient-rome/ Let's go down to the market and buy EVERY CAN WE CAN AFFORD OF GOYA PRODUCTS. Granted, there are a lot of high carb items, but sometimes you just have to have Black Beans and Rice - or coconut milk in a stew....
I've actually heard that Goya products are disappearing off shelves very quickly. Scott Adams did a straw poll that showed MOST trump supporters keep their mouths shut and even lie when asked about their choices. I expect they (including me - I don't need to be beaten up) are the ones buying up all the Goya products. I know The Conservative Treehouse has a "buy Goya" campaign going since the BLM announced its boycott. Facebook followers have increased from 600,000 to 700,000 over the weekend and the bean category alone is up 400% in the last week per the NYT.
Hanks has gone too far left for me. I'll just reread C. S. Forester. Thanks for the reminder, PubliusII Since when did the teachers' union anywhere get elected to rule education? Look into Arabella Advisors, headed by Eric Kessler, which has been spending multi-millions in dark money to team up with Soros's many millions via his NGOs, financing anything anti-Trump. Makes you wonder if Jason Kessler, "far-right" leader of the Charlotteville debacle, was a covert clown pretending to be a Nazi for the set up. No way he turned that far so fast with the nature of his family's generational progressive stance. Trump must be doing something right to have so many with so much fighting so hard to destroy him. Re: Hate crimes
In a Capitalist country, when demand exceeds supply, an entrepreneur will come along and fill that need. Jussie Smollett, et alia, were such people. Greyhound: He's a Navy Captain, but doesn't have experience? Say WHAT???????
536 AD — the worst year in history: Dems working on making 2020 that. Brooklyn College unveils ‘anti-racist agenda’ for professors: Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.... L.A. teachers union says schools can't reopen unless charter schools get shut down, police defunded: Defund the teachers union and fire all of them. Trump Administration Turns Down Request to Pay for Minneapolis Riots: You did it to yourselves; you have to fix it yourselves. There are so many municipalities which aren't stupid, but Minneapolis is NOT one of them. Mr. Trump isn't stupid, either. I'm no fan of Hollywood, so I'll skip Greyhound. But it's a good reminder to re-read C.S. Forester's The Good Shepherd, which the movie is supposedly based on.
Forester is best known for his Hornblower series — if you liked Jack Aubrey, you'll like his earlier series — but he also wrote The African Queen. And if we're refighting the Battle of the Atlantic, read The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Montserrat. For the facts about the U-boat war, I'll recommend Clay Blair's two volumes that tell the story of the efforts by the German Navy to stop the shipments to Britain: Hitler's U-Boat War: The Hunters, 1939–1942 and Hitler's U-Boat War: The Hunted, 1942–1945. AND if that's not enough, check out Blair's Silent Victory, about American subs in WW 2, mostly in the Pacific. YouTube Unpersons Religious Commentator E. Michael Jones
QUOTE: “We all knew this day was coming… YouTube has finally banned my account, deleting hundreds of videos, millions of views, and 60.7k subscribers… gone in an instant. They can try to censor me, but nobody can censor Logos. Jesus Christ did not need YouTube to spread the word.” Michael Jones has been one of the more intriguing members of the Dissident Right. His content has shed light on the Left’s relentless push to bring social degeneracy into everyday aspects of Americans’ lives. Such sacraments of our political correctness civic religion are fervently protected by the political establishment. https://bigleaguepolitics.com/youtube-unpersons-religious-commentator-e-michael-jones/ Experts say 536 AD was the worst year in history. Last month, 1177 BCE was the worst year in history. This is why people don't trust historians.
Well......maybe you meant to say this is why people don't trust reporters. If you didn't actually read the work of the various historians to get it straight from the source, then I would suggest that it's the media you shouldn't be trusting, first and foremost - Not the historians, necessarily.
Today I had a relative in Central America ask some questions on COVID reports he was hearing on NBC. Geez. Virtually nothing was accurate, and very little of it could be construed as factual, and even this took going to some effort to reconcile the reporting with the actual data. I've gotten to where my premise is that all major media reporting is an implicit lie until proven otherwise. And when I care to prove otherwise, I find the reporting is geared for election-driven social engineering for Republican losses and Trump annihilation. Greyhound is a really good naval war drama. My wife and I enjoyed it a lot. Hanks shines per usual, no obvious large errors, no usual Hollywood preaching.
Have not seen this movie, but my Mom got to experience this in real life, with her family living in Hawaii and having gone through Pearl Harbor. Still being concerned about a possible Japanese invasion, a lot of young people were sent by their families to the Mainland, in my mother's case, after she graduated in June 1942 from high school (the school campus had already been commandeered by the Army for military purposes, so the students finished their classes being taught in teachers' homes).
After graduation she was put on one of the Matson liners, I think the Lurline which had delivered troops and munitions, and was primarily taking civilian evacuees back to San Francisco. The ship had been re-painted in naval camouflage, and raced back across the ocean at top speed to San Francisco. The ship from time to time erratically would make sharp turns and would change course in order to hopefully dodge any torpedoes fired by an unseen Japanese submarine. So essentially it was going across the ocean in a zig-zag. In any event she made it safely, and then boarded a train for Poughkeepsie, New York, where she started college at Vassar and was watched over by a distant relative who was a retired professor there. She wasn't able to come back home until after the war, returning sometime in 1946. For Bird Dog:
Do you eat or drink anything before you go to the gym. We are having trouble getting are times to the gym co ordinated with our coffee and daily breakfast. If we eat a breakfast it will be another two hours before we go to the gym and by that time we are distracted with some other project. I can't imagine leaving the house without a cup of coffee and I can't imagine that without a breakfast treat, which does something strange to my metabolism. Any suggestions? re: KLAVAN: ‘Hamilton’ Is The Anti-1619 Project
Yes!! From the article: QUOTE: We need more conservatives who recognize what “Hamilton” is. That's exactly right. My wife and I watched "Hamilton" on July 4. It's just what this country needs now, as Andrew Klavan explains so well. Plus it was produced at the height of the Obama era and cannot be tied to Trump. "Hamilton" is the antidote to both the 1619 Project and BLM. |
