Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Old-timey beachy getaway: Block Island


Block Island is good for beaches, seafood, biking, hiking, boating, fishing, and appreciating nature and the outdoors. It's not fancy.  It's close to southern New England and New York, and there are plenty of ferries. No traffic lights, no chain restaurants, no highways.


No need to bring a car. Bring bikes, or just rent bikes. 


Plenty of fun turn-of the century Queen Anne Revival (aka "Victorian") architecture.  The island has an interesting history.


Photo below is from the town dock. Block Island is a popular sailing and boating destination.

Block Island is great. I've sailed there a few times. Classic southern New England destination.

Odd coincidence. Mrs. Bulldog and I were talking about this today since we're making plans on going in September.

We love Block Island. We usually stay at the Manisses, but I would wake up and walk to the Springhouse to watch the sun rise.

I only spent a day on Block Island many years ago, but the Island made an impression on me. Very fond memories.
