We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Former G.W. Bush appointees supporting Biden have embraced socialist policies – why?"
Because it's not about the policies as such, it's about the 'hierarchy'. THEY were at the top of the heap. They should have STAYED at the top of the heap until they decided to retire. Anything that kicked them OFF of the top of the heap is, objectively, unfair and wrong and not to be tolerated.
So - if it looks like it'll get them back into power, they'll support it.
They really, really, REALLY want a stagnant, stratified society. An 'elite', ruling over a 'common people'. And that the 'common people' don't want that sort of society doesn't matter in the slightest.
They are bad losers. They hate Trump. He took away their cookie jar.
They are the "Harvarders" and better seen as gilded elite that advance by connections rather than merit. Small wonder that the Trumpers finally left them behind to stew in their own mediocrity.
The Tale of the Alden Besse
Surviving tempests, fires, illness, auctions, lawsuits, and salvages, the old whaling ship Alden Besse saw many an exciting adventure over more than 59 years. A magnet for disaster, accidents, and adventure, the ship even served as a set for many an early Hollywood silent film. The history of the Alden Besse seems as exciting as any adventure story or film.
Think about this; BLM rioters are throwing M-80s at the police. If that isn't terrorism what is? Does anyone remember the child who took a 2 liter soda bottle and put some vinegar and baking soda into it so it would pop like a balloon or blow up and was then arrested charged with making an explosive device? Yet Rioters throwing actual explosive devices are allowed to get away with it!
Re: the Florida man charged with assault. It does not surprise me that people act like this. I lived in an HOA community a few years back and there was a lady who lived there who would walk the neighborhood everyday looking for something to complain about. On trash pickup day if you didn't get the empty off the street quick enough or only pulled it up be the garage you would get a notice on your door when she turned you in. There is something about humans that love drama and being 'better' than others. The talking heads on TV created the current problem about masks and the magic 6 feet (not 6 1/2 feet or 5 1/2 but the magic and precise 6 feet). I would bet you a million bucks that if the talking heads reported that it was OK to kill anyone who came closer than 6 feet to you, even as a joke, that within 48 hours someone would do it.
The two men are fortunate this ended up so well. There have been issues in seniors' homes, particularly when dementia patients share a room; well remember a death in a residence near us when one man attacked and fatally wounded his roommate. Brother-in-law's reaction was interesting; his father (then deceased) had been involved in a fight with his roomie but BIL's reaction had been "who won?". He did, upon reading about this incident, realize the possible consequences of that fight. But then his mother had a fair few unexplained bruises and their local home (not the one by us) brushed them off. The consensus, sadly, seemed to be that it was easier to get residents than workers, so the occasional minor abuse was okay. However, it may well have been that BIL's mother was being extremely obstreperous and difficult to control, and that the bruises happened during perfectly legitimate control measures. Looking after seniors has its challenges.
You might be told to keep a distance of 6 feet to be safe, but in Australia we are continuously told 1.5 metres, that's about 4ft 11inches. We are told that it is about 2 arm lengths. In shops we have stickers, lines and circles on the floor to help out. The sticker business must be booming, they are everywhere.

I found the srewworm story quite interesting. Good to read a story about a federal program doing something necessary, and working.

Technically, it's a worm.
One of the good things an unintended consequences of the lockdown is that people are figuratively giving our ruling masters the middle finger and ignoring their ego-enhancing petty edicts and orders.
That is a good thing.
Americans' unwillingness to be governed any further by officials who responded to the pandemic with a series of botched policy initiatives, personal exemptions, and seemingly arbitrary commands to the public is understandable. Why would you take orders from people who seem to have no idea what they're doing and clearly don't intend to follow the rules themselves?https://reason.com/2020/07/03/post-pandemic-americans-may-be-done-with-taking-orders/
. . . "months of mixed messages have left many exhausted and wondering how much of what they did was worth it," as a report in The New York Times concedes.
There is also this:
Scroll at the link to see the video of the people of Los Angeles shooting fireworks in defiance of a ban by Newsomolini and Mayor Queeg.
A stunned KCAL reporter in the clip relayed that each person shooting off fireworks was subject to a potential $50,000 fine.
Los Angeles wasn’t the only city giving government the middle finger. Here in Denver the illegal fireworks went on for three hours. There were no sanctioned events, all were breaking the law. Yippee!!! It was wonderful. Only a commie would outlaw fireworks on Independence Day.
Yesterday the local newscasts were full of condemnation. Wagging their heads in disbelief at the lawlessness of it. They even put up a list of fires, the the metro fire departments responded to. The list was so lacking, that they had to include two dumpster fires. The metro area had over an inch of rain in the afternoon. The sky’s cleared just before dusk. Fire danger was very low. Media people are clowns. There is no bilge they will not wade through, in order to get the DNC talking points out.
I never was a fan of Trump the gauche, flamboyant mogul and TV personality. I'd say my reaction was simply 'Meh'. Still is, in a lot of ways. But there is no doubt that he is doing presidential things and has made the office his. Like him or not, by his actions he is fulfilling the role much more than his predecessors in just about every way. Compare his visibility and engagement to the Magic O.
So what the hell is with Trump Derangement Syndrome? People on all sides admit the fact of its existence. But what is it about a mere person that elicits such a profoundly self-owning propensity to show one's ass? It's like it bypasses all the normal human filters for self-control and regulated behavior and just blurts its way out.
The University system seems determined to eradicate Asian content, both student and faculty. The Media system seems determined to run stories as mere test flags then retract them or re-write the headlines and stories in more palatable, less offensive terminology. The mayors are letting young people erect mock forts and play with guns, and to play on the interstates. At night, dressed in black.
Are these TDS symptoms in another form? Or are they really all just miserable craven incompetent cowards that have finally prostrated themselves back into a corner hole? How could we ever have taken them seriously?
Don't forget to vote in your run-off elections this week, if you have them.
What was there about 1984's 2-Minute Hate that was so enthralling to those going through it?
It's the same thing. Trump is The Enemy. They've been told so by people they 'trust', and it feels GOOD to hate him. The more unreasoning the hate, the more frothing the screaming - the better it feels.
"Are these TDS symptoms in another form?"
It's the rejection of a system that works for most, in exchange for something 'better' that they think would work for them in the way they WANT. Doesn't matter if it does - the promise alone is sufficient.
"Or are they really all just miserable craven incompetent cowards that have finally prostrated themselves back into a corner hole? How could we ever have taken them seriously?"
We gave them a lot of rope. They were 'annoying' to the average Joe under Obama, when they were slowly feeling their way into power. But they were rejected - and that drove them insane. How DARE we not place their demands and desires at the very pinnacle of our national aspirations?
So they've go insane, demanding more and more and more and... more... to the point most have had way more than enough of the stupidity. And yet there's MORE of it, pushed by the tendency of Social Media to amplify the absolute worst thoughts and behavior.
It'll be interesting to see what happens in November...
Progressive urbanists wanting to take over the suburbs...they need the money. It's tough keeping the diversity satiated on only their own tax revenue.
Well, lots of those are restored jobs, I'd guess
They were recognized as "lost" when the politicians crashed the economy, and as the CES is designed, would properly be recognized as "new jobs" now. Whoever designed the CES in 1915 never imagined politicians could be so stupid as to deliberately cause a massive "suspension" of jobs, then allow "restoration" at a later date. Maybe Congress should spend a few million to redesign the CES to accomodate modern politics.
"A stunned KCAL reporter in the clip relayed that each person shooting off fireworks was subject to a potential $50,000 fine."
Good luck collecting that.
Stone Mountain will probably be blown up by the BLaliban one of these days, with the cheering support of Democrats and the Mayor of Atlanta.
Now BLM and antifa are physically attacking churches for being integrated. In Troy, New York, threaten black church members of the local Baptist church and then beat a white member:

Tucker was on fire tonight (7/6/2020). He literally accused many of the Democrats of hating America. He should hide his family and find a safe place to run to when they come to get him. I predict that three women will come forward and accuse him of improper touching or worse. He will be joining Bill O'Reilly soon if he is lucky. Possibly he will be killed outside of his house one night when he drives home from work. He is getting too close to exposing actual crimes of the left.
I'm pretty sure that "canned story" is total bullshit.
The kind of people who spend very large amounts of money on Big Game Hunting are obviously people who care deeply about the aesthetics and experience of the hunt. Shooting a semi-tame lion in an enclosure would be pointless to a hunter.
Anybody who merely want a lion mount can simply go one of the large taxidermy companies and buy one. Taxidermists, like Jonas Brothers, have loads of skins and skulls that were left with them and never paid to be mounted.
The media is violently biased against hunting, is pig ignorant, and commonly lies.
