We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Israel annexing the West Bank isn't the disaster for peace everyone says it is. The move is a mostly symbolic acknowledgment of the current reality rather than a change. That could help both sides be more realistic in negotiations.

Well, after a few weeks away and such, it's good to see the genial hosts on the job.
Spent some time putting 3K plus miles on the ol' road wagon, and one thing stands out - truck traffic has come back with a vengeance. I 40 and I 81 were, at times, so crowded w/trucks that overall speeds were far below the posted limits (quite a change from early this year)...
Back to the volunteer gig at TMC, and the reality has no relationship with the news (surprise?), and yes, I'm rather dismayed that Gov Abbott has decided to agree with the foolish.
Ah well. Politicians. When they're not kissing babies, they're stealing their lollipops.

I'm seeing a lot of articles claiming that the Texas hospitals are overwhelmed, but when you get to the specifics, it turns out to be people saying they're concerned that the hospitals are maybe going to be overwhelmed later at some point.

What I don't read is accounts of serious COVID symptoms in rising numbers of patients. Nor has the death rate gone up yet, though I suppose it's still early enough to call that a potential lagging indicator. Anyway, it doesn't happen until it happens, no matter what the potential is.

So school children should go back to school but adults cannot go to bars or restaurants. My state has now mandated masks but children 12 and under are exempt. What the hell is that all about? So now kids don't get covid-19 and give it to adults? This makes no sense at all. Then there is the social distancing rules; where and how did 6 feet become the perfect distance? Shouldn't it be 9 1/2 feet? Or maybe 15 feet? How about 1/4 mile? Do you get the impression the 'experts' have no idea at all what distance makes you safe. The masks don't work, social distancing is a wild ass guess. I can go to package stores and Walmart but not McDonalds. I can't get my haircut but I can get my teeth cleaned. I can't go to church but I can loot and burn stores. The talking heads on TV tell me to wear a mask to prevent the spread of covid-19 but health care workers wouldn't just wear a cloth mask in an infectious environment. The governors should require everyone wear full PPE.

Nigel; 20 and 4. None of their descendants, field hands all, leave their kids even tuppence. Nigel and Wing have 256 living descendants, each.
