Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Amanda Mull's black-and-white take on clutter is typical shortsighted Gen X bullshit. Your home and possessions should be like a well-kept garden, with lots of what you like, neatly ordered, and all the (weeds) junk ruthlessly eliminated. Then clutter can be removed quickly, stuff gets put away, crap gets tossed. How hard is that?
Not as easy as you think. Some of us would consider what you think of as crap as worth keeping. Wait until you move and easily toss out crap as you say, and then find out how expensive re-buying the so called crap you discarded earlier is for your new home. How many times in the past few months since our move has my spouse asked me where the such and such is only to be told " you made me get rid of it before our move". It's been pretty expensive.
What I've seen in my house and many estate sales is that we have a lot of "tools".
Garden/yard tools, auto repair tools, kitchen appliances/devices, tools for hosting parties, sewing, computer, etc. Americans want to be productive. And to be honest, you can't always count on contractors. We want to do it ourselves, or we find we need to do it ourselves. Often we overestimate what we can do, or the time we have available. But the clutter we have isn't totally a knock on us. It's perfectly easy. Mementos of course you keep; those videos of the daughter playing trumpet in band aren't replaceable. But that dress jacket? I haven't worn it in a year, it doesn't go with any of the pants in the closet. Out in the bag to Goodwill. Those pans in the kitchen for the dish you made once? That special tool in the garage for the car we sold 3 years ago? Fifteen year old magazines? Coldly, heartlessly eliminate all that.
It also helps to be a minimalist. The wife and I have been for some time. Spent 20 years in the Air Force, moving an average of every 18 months. Learned about crap the hard way, but my last move before retiring was a dream. Didn't throw away any tools until about a year ago, when I weeded out all the dupes. Didn't really throw them away, just made some friends happy with give-aways.
I will confess to having an overlarge plumber's snake, since like DrTorch, I'm leery of contractors. I probably could lose the snake, since I have one of the world's great plumbers on speed-dial, but old habits die hard. And the snake is neatly stored, cluttering nothing. Justice ain't coming. Ain't gonna happen. There might be a lower level puke thrown under the bus but the big boys and girls will never do the perp walk.
So now police departments will take instruction from their equipment providers on the terms & conditions of usage after they've taken delivery and paid for it. You know, if this keeps up much longer, the Babylon Bee will go out of business from too much competition, or be reduced to just printing the news.
QUOTE: Justice Is Coming: 'As Many as 16-17' Obamagate Criminal Referrals Headed to DOJ As many as includes the numbers 0-17. Take a number between 1-17 and place your bet. I've already put my money on 0. Some low-level guy will be picked out and get a ridiculously overcharged complaint against him, for which he will be acquitted due to the fact that the elements of the inflated charges can't all be proven. The prosecutors will say "well, we tried", and move on to the next political falderol.
Wait a minute, which story am I commenting on? Whose to say the DOJ won't just sit on the referrals, or slow walk them, hoping Biden wins in November when the entire matter can be quietly dropped?
The DOJ has not pressed this matter with any enthusiasm since the dawn of the Trump administration.
Why would their attitude have changed? DOJ is made up of people that hate Trump and want him out. Why would they prosecute their friends and allies? Zero comes up a lot on the roulette wheel. Usually when you don't expect it. Don't expect it.
Re: Fuji and "...recent string of protests".
Mr Roget needs to update his Thesaurus. To wit: Riot : Protest It's seemed to me that given the knowledge available even a few weeks ago about how the virus was spread, via inhaled droplets and not surfaces or other casual contact, the wearing of masks is just intended to be a reminder to the wearer that he is supposed to remain afraid.
It makes sense for the highly vulnerable and for symptomatic people to wear masks, but everyone? nope. The End of Minimalism: I have found that I don't trust The ATLANTIC, five or so years ago. I have minimalized it.

I can recall a time, not too long ago, when Chicago's ruling class did not want Wal-Mart in their city and fought them tooth and nail. Has Wal-Mart moved so far to the Left politically that it now pleases its Democratic masters? One would think Lightfoot would be glad to see them go. I was reading through some stuff today and the blogger called Chicago Mayor Lightfoot "Beetlejuice", and now I can't un-see it. Eye-worm.
"...Has Wal-Mart moved so far to the Left politically that it now pleases its Democratic masters? One would think Lightfoot would be glad to see them go."
Yes, at least at the corporate level, where campaign donations skew heavily to Dems. Also, remember the big Green splash made not long ago, along with health care for every conceivable (and a few in-), um, genders, including those who are, um, transitioning. And keep in mind, the way they offer low prices — and pretty much always have — is to source as much merch as possible out to China, undermining U.S. manufactures. Of course, Walmart remains anathema among the Lefty faithful, but this appears mostly for snob reasons. re Canadian professor canned for opinion that biological sex is a real thing
The piece was written by someone incapable of discerning fact from opinion. Biological sex is a fact, not an opinion. One either has a final set of chromosomes with either an xx or xy set. These determine sex. XX for girls, xy for boys. There is no in between. This is a fact, not an opinion. I don't know if the Police knee on the neck actually caused the black man's death or if it was his drugs or bad heart. I do know that you cannot say "I can't breathe" if you can't breathe. So it seems likely that his death was accidental.
I don't know if the cop(s) will be convicted of anything or not. But either way I would expect that just as in the case of Baltimore that after you charge and try the cops for doing their job those cops who are left choose to be very careful about enforcing the law or protecting and serving and the crime rate will skyrocket and most of those harmed will be the blacks. I don't know if those stores in the rougher parts of cities that endured the riots will rebuild but I would bet half won't. So the riots (not protests) will have the same effect riots always have and make the resident's lives tougher for years to decades to come. Somewhere down the road some "woke" politicians will declare the area a food/drugstore desert and blame that on racism. The inability to perceive irony goes very deep with these people. So all in all it is a huge lose/lose for the 'B' in BLM and may not even succeed in electing Biden which is what this farce is really all about. The left/Dems lost their Russia scam and they need something to rally the communists, I mean Democrat voters. Hard to say how it will all play out but the left doesn't care that they throw their people under the bus. Turns out the "charity" "Black Lives Matter" is an illegal funding front for the DNC and Democrat politicians.
Donations, Including International Funding, to BlackLivesMatter.com Go Directly to the DNC I posted this somewhere else, but it's worth posting here too. Here is a black lady, I think from the Caribbean, who isn't taking on the whole BLM charade. She's schooling a protestor in front of the White House, it looks like.

QUOTE: The Obama administration betrayed America. It sold out the soldiers in the field, and then their commanders, and when it lost power, it went to war against the civilian leadership using the tools that had been traditionally reserved for the terrorists that it had refused to take on and defeat. Obama didn’t just corrupt our national security system to wage war on his successor administration, he did it to protect the Islamist terrorist enemies of this country: Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood. Instead of fighting Islamic terrorists, Obama used the national security state to spy on their opponents, beginning with pro-Israel Americans, and concluding with Trump allies in a horrifying act of treason. https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2020/06/obama-used-national-security-spy-americans-opposed-daniel-greenfield/#.Xt6DdP6IZ9A.twitter |
