We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We have/had a huge bed of phlox in our house we have lived in just 7 months, until our rather large dog saw a mother rabbit and found the nest. It didn't take her long to completely wreck the phlox. It's fenced off temporarily but hope the mother rabbit decides to nest somewhere else. We were surprised at the lovely smell they have when the weather is warm.
Almost every flowering plant has magenta-purple and white flowered variants. The magenta provides maximum contrast with the green foliage in the wavelengths of light that many insect eyes record. This improves the target recognition of pollinating insects. The white is a common albino genetic variation.
The horticulturalist Thalassa Cruso used to quip that she had no problem imagining the Garden of Eden - all the flowers were magenta!
