Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re But ultimately it all boils down to: We can't reopen the country until Joe Biden becomes President.
Nailed it. It will be interesting to see if the little people allow their states to be closed that long. The thesis that South Dakota needs the same lockdown as the South Bronx is becoming increasingly ludicrous.
"The lockdown is killing my business"- Said Everyone. Except for the people being hired to the new jobs of covid Nazi running around trying to track & compile data. Back in Y2K, a parking lot owner had to confirm that his business equipment would not be disrupted by computers if they failed. Paper & ink. Check. 1973 non computer pickup. Check. Gravel of the parking lot. Check.
As Rush said yesterday about restaurants recording their dinners. "You don't think there are not people who will be placed at risk because the barman just got that cute girls name, address, & number?" Even if the barman does nothing with it, the predator standing nearby over heard it. The Evil that will come out of what we'll do going forward is going to surpass what ever damage the disease could have. Where are we at? If you're scared, wear a mask. If you're really scared, stay home. If you're sick, stay home. If you're really sick, got to the hospital. At this point, They're prepared to deal with anything because they have had months of preparation. (Maybe not- it does not sound like there are clear descriptions of symptoms of exactly what the disease manifests as.) Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow. Yesterday, nature wanted to kill you. Today, nature wants to kill you & you're wearing a mask. Tomorrow, you better plan on wearing a mask (forever), because nature still wants to kill you, & even if it's not this, something else will come along. One thing that absolutely needs to change in this country, if there are enough free will, lovers of liberty left, is to limit the emergency authority of government officials. This business of acting as dictator for the foreseeable future, because reasons, must be stopped. I do not consent. As the left never tires of saying, “Our democracy is at stake.” Funny how you don’t hear that phrase anymore.
dems govern for their political agenda. Repubs govern for the benefit of their citizens.
The governors are in charge of the decision to lockdown or open up. This is not a federal problem. We do have a federal commission that offers advice and coordinates resources, but ultimately it is up to the governors. I think Trump understood this early on and also understood that this was going to be hyper-political. So he challenged the governors, they took the challenge and unanimously responded that they were in charge and they would be making the decisions not Trump. Trump backed off and the governors thought they won. But it is now clear to all who is keeping the country shut down.
Why do the governors of many Red States step up to the microphone and detail their plans for phased re-opening based on disease feedback, while the governors of many Blue States simply step up and announce that the shut down is being extended? Are Blue State governors simply being tyrants or are they explaining their actions (I'm not seeing much of this)? Is the coverage of these events deficient?
Or do Blue State politicians truly believe that people will not question and forcefully challenge threats to their well-being and the livelihoods that support their family? The demands for justification that is supported with evidence from the data will only become more strident - especially while neighboring Red States get on with it. It's a bad look when a government starts attacking their business and industrial sectors, and justifies it with vague statements about preventing disease, without considering their actual data and providing a forecast of progress toward reopening. It's craven, actually. The Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, remember that name, he is a tyrant, actually used the example of Darth Vader, a fictional character in a stupid movie, about the dangers of removing your mask in public. The Dems, the lovers and worshippers of science, can not explain, in scientific detail, why lockdowns, social distancing - a term I have come to loath - and masks, are absolutely necessary. They turn to fictional characters to explain their choices.
Using the virus to lockdown a society by quarantine is nothing more than hostage taking. A quarantine is for sick people...there is no justification for holding any others unless it is to destroy their lives and livelihood.
We Need to Stop Running From the Virus. A North Carolina congressman and physician explains why.
Congressman Murphy states his opinion relies on his expertise, "[a]s a physician as well as a member of Congress, I am in a unique position to study and react to this formidable pandemic." He is a urologist, which is a field of practice focusing on male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. In other words, a specialist in a field unrelated to epidemiology or respiratory diseases. There are about a million physicians in the United States. That is not "unique." On there other hand, he is one of about 8,000 state legislators (he is a former state legislator) and members of congress. He serves on a subcommittee whose focus is on industrial retooling in support of coronavirus relief efforts. Even when the venn diagrams overlap, this does not make him "unique" in any relevant way and does not make more qualified than any of the other million MDs and certainly less so than someone with a relevant specialty. On the other hand if you're looking for an example of confirmation bias, you've hit the jackpot. Not to mention that he's hardly the only legislator with an M.D.
Why an added month of lockdown will devastate New York small businesses: And also NY's business taxes and income taxes will be going down, down, down, etc., etc., world without pity, Amen.
No proof Russia hacked DNC
Of course there isn't any proof. When the FBI asked permission to do digital forensics on the DNC server, the DNC refused permission. No investigation, no proof. |
