We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. A free ad for Quest Diagnostics

If you have a Quest Direct center anywhere nearby, all you need to do is to schedule a 10-min appointment online to get a SARS-COVID19 antibody test. Bring a Dr's note and credit card.


Results in 2 or 3 days.  Obviously you hope to test positive, because that is the Get Out of Jail Free card. That sinus cold you had in February might have been The Bug.

You do not need a Dr. note. Anyone can self-schedule, but note you need to pay about $120 out of pocket - maybe get reimbursed from insurance or HSA, maybe not.

The issue I have is that this is a vein draw - not a finger prick - and I am terrified of needles. I am thinking really hard about going in, but this phobia has kept me away so far.

The finger prick tests are getting better, and a home one should be available in 1-2 months, I am tempted to wait.

Really...If you have no symptoms, why would anyone want to be tested? This is a test that can only be used against you. Will Quest transmit your name and SSAN to your local health department or the police?

So policy-wise: the test

1. Have it, go home and stay home for two weeks at least

2. Had it, but maybe you can get it again so see #3

3. Do not and have not had it, shelter at home until your governor tells you when you can get tested.

Privacy? apparently not if your governor waves emergency powers.

most likely, some of the testing companies are saving your blood samples, and creating databases of DNA fingerprints. Does anybody read the fine print on the release forms when you go to get a blood draw?

I had some kind of strange bug back in February that kept me down for a solid week.

Then, there were reports that C-19 may have been more widespread, and for longer, than first thought.

So, when they started offering the antibody test in my area, I took it. Not only was I negative for the antibody, but so far, less than 1% of results are positive.

I'm now inclined to discount the possibility that this has been much more widespread than the official numbers indicate.

Except in NY and a few other states, where the all powerful all knowing government has decreed that citizens are unable to monitor their own health correctly, and all blood tests, all lab tests related to health, must be ordered by a doctor, and the results delivered to the doctor, who will then explain the results to the hapless patient.

It is unlawful for me to monitor my own health in NY.
