We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

No-win

From The Coronavirus Forces Countries into a No-Win Situation:



 There is this probably particularly American mentality that if we just study a problem long enough, and are somehow smart enough, we will inevitably discover some option that creates a win-win scenario that avoids both the terrible health consequences (more infections and more deaths) or the terrible economic consequences (a depression that forces all kinds of businesses large and small into bankruptcy). The coronavirus may be presenting the countries of the world with a no-win situation.

Whaaaa? No win? But but but the CFR is only 0.2 or 0.5%, bird dog’s wife and fil can go to Italian markets together, bull dog can do whatever he feels like, get infected, b*tch about social shaming, mock minorities and then sit back and wait for reparations.

If that isn’t a win-win-win situation, not sure what is!

This is the operative phrase in the NR article, which is posted here on the same site that posted the Michael Chrichton essay about speculation just yesterday. I’m just sayin’...

You can completely kill the infection by getting the reinfection rate to less than 1.0 among the out-and-about population.

Once it's killed, everybody can come out.

There's still the problem of travellers from nations not doing that.

They have employed the strategy politicians like best, kick the can down the road while throwing money at the problem.

Hard choices needed to be made and they are not good at those.
