(Apologies if this misinterprets your comment but I think it's a fine example of what I'm thinking.)

To paraphrase the Instantman, I'll believe we have a C19 crisis when the people who tell me we have a C19 crisis start acting like we have a C19 crisis. Politicians, doctors, all of them.

On one hand, we're told that a near-complete shut down of our economy and public life, courting economic disaster and a seriously compromised election in a few months, is absolutely necessary to keep people from dying of C19 in the streets but then we're told we must scrupulously adhere to preexisting regimens of testing potential life-saving treatments (many of which are existing drugs proven safe to treat other conditions) and vaccines for safety and absolute effectiveness.

Which is it? Do we have a crisis where dead bodies are going to be stacked up like cordwood, in which case why are we worried about potential treatment and vaccines not working 100% of the time, or do the people hyping this know that computer generated models using dubious data are being misrepresented so those in charge can avoid being blamed for not doing a g-d thing to mitigate what is happening by setting up a post-crisis claim that "things could have been much worse?"
