Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I think we're going to see a big spike in cases since Pence's team has gotten a number of manufacturers and labs to fast track COVID testing. The number of sick people probably won't increase as much as the fact we'll know they have COVID and not the usual seasonal crud.
Given the wide dispersal of reported cases and various reports that this was active in China for months I suspect it's been circulating in the U.S. far longer than we've assumed but everybody figured people were getting sick from complications of a seasonal flu that wasn't in the vaccination cocktail. I don't understand Dr. Drew! What exactly does he mean? Is corona virus deadly and Italy is right to quarantine 25% of their people? Or is Italy being stupid and what the hell people die everyday so a few more don't matter. China used draconian measures to quarantine their cities were they wrong? As I understand it this virus is killing 1 out of every 33 who catch it while the yearly flu kills 1 out of 1000. As a doctor doesn't that worry him? This virus is also much more transmissible than the common flu. Those two factors are what is making this corona virus a pandemic. When, exactly, should we start worrying?
I'm not sure there is sufficient cause to worry. Having decades of experience with government statistics and how they're [mis]used, I suspect something is missing. It's significant to me that I've heard little-to-nothing about how many may have been minimally symptomatic, and therefore undiagnosed. If this is a sizeable population, as it tends to be with most viruses, it would indicate that the rates we've heard are likely overstated.
I think there are lots of reasons to be worried because of the things we don't know about it. We are in the very beginning of this COVID-19 story (even though it will likely end this year in May as other flues do). The media is salivating for a Trump failure so they play up the dangers. Mrs. Mudbug read somewhere that even people who recover from COVID-19 could still have long term damage to their organs. There are theories that this whole thing started from a bio-weapons lab in Wuhan. The Chinese, who should know something about it even if it isn't a bio-weapon, has shut down whole cities as well as employ draconian measures to stem the spread of it... And there are others. If you seriously consider one or more of these ideas, the fact that the flu is (so far) more dangerous than COVID-19 probably isn't going to make you feel much better.
Some of those reasons are contradictory and some may be fanciful or irrelevant but they all have a constituency. Presto, mass worry. Hopefully it doesn't degenerate to hysteria. Found this piece on another website and take it for what it's worth as I have no idea about its reliability but it was a sure enough an interesting read.

for Pursuing American Dream:Dems! WHY do they hate people? Clinton: 'I'd love to have a woman on the ticket, finally -- again' Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, as long as it's HER. A consummation devoutly (DEVOUTLY) to be avoided. Micheal Fumento is a friend of ours from the university of Illinois. His article about the corona virus peak falling soon in the NY Post is very likely the case. He has written about many things over the years and is correct about his subjects.
A cruise ship passenger describing how the virus feels. An older gentlemen that seems to caution on any panic.
https://www.citizenfreepress.com/breaking/infected-patient-from-diamond-cruise-speaks-out/ I read that story this morning and didn't even notice it was Michael Fumento who had written it! I used to read his blog years ago and had several email exchanges with him. Great writer with a very rational mind. I've got to chase him down now. Thanks for the tip
re Clinton: ‘I’d Love To Have A Woman On The Ticket, Finally — Again’
She must be salivating at the thought of being #2 on a ticket with a doddering old fool that has rapidly declining mental abilities. I wouldn't be surprised if her lieutenants already have a plan in place for removing old senile Joe and installing her highness in the 0val Office. Biden's people likely know or suspect this. Over at Axios they are reporting that Biden's people may want Warren for VP. QUOTE: But it's a sign of the sudden optimism around his candidacy that some in his circle of trust are starting to think down the road, starting with the V.P. pick: Some Biden advisers hope he could overcome hard feelings from the Obama years and pick Warren for V.P. to excite party progressives. Also high on the list of potential Biden picks for #2 are several African Americans: Sen. Kamala Harris (first on many lists) and Sen. Cory Booker, both of whom ended their nomination fights before the voting began ... former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, who ended his presidential campaign after New Hampshire ... and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who electrifies crowds. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is in the mix, too. Others who could bring diversity and relative youth to the ticket include Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Rep. Val Demings of Florida, who got high marks as a House impeachment manager. Notice who is NOT on the list? HRC. Then again . . . maybe she can bribe and threaten her way into the number two slot if she so desires? https://www.axios.com/joe-biden-cabinet-vice-president-picks-b17882ac-3953-450f-8afb-38a3c8dcda57.html Notice how many failed presidential hopefuls resurface as members of a putative Biden Administration. A reward for dropping out? I think Biden is the Dems stalking horse to get a uber liberal woman of color into the office. His running mate will be picked with those assets and Biden will take a back seat during the runup to the election so he does not stumble badly. When elected he will wait for a few months or so to pass and then discover a serious health issue and tearfully resign the presidency.
